This talk is so important to understand the binge/cramming. Everyone trying to lose weight, should watch this to undertsand how it works. Never thought it was the nervous system. I am a crammer, and need to look to my chocolate, dates and peanut butter cravings on the head, and say NO, Not today, you are not getting it.

Funny about eating kale after tasting pastry. I have a problem if I made my meal not very tasty (I'm not such a good cook), then wanting to cover up that taste with a treat comparatively, which can just be oatmeal with syrup. I thought one reason I eat in the evening after being satiated is realizing it will be a while before my body is hungry enough to eat again and for some reason this thought bothers me such that I'll override it and reassure myself I can still eat now - it's like I don't have the patience to wait. Also there is the problem of using eating as a distraction.

Love you both! Great info as always. Thank you, both, for sharing all your invaluable knowledge. Chef AJ, you look so beautiful, absolutely glowing! I believe the hormone connection to craving is real having nothing to do with habit. I remember a time when I was extremely regimented with what I ate, having unusual cravings for rich foods that were very difficult to ignore. I was puzzled by this as I was not normally tempted by those foods at that time. It turned out I was pregnant. That explained it for me. I have also had unusual cravings for chocolate right around my menstruation that are satisfied with just a tiny piece of chocolate. Not the norm for me, but I have experienced it.

Wow. I went through that cram circuit thing last night. I didn't know WHAT that was about! I just ate more salad and more starch and couldn't understand why it felt like I was eating constantly and still felt hungry. It was cravings! I am not in a position to be able to control my environment as my housemate eats lots of cheese and always has heavy cream in the fridge and currently keeps ice cream in the freezer. It is her house and I am good friends with her renting a room in a town where I could not otherwise afford to live. And she needs me too -- because her health is so bad that I can do things for her she cannot do on her own. I have no right to expect her to eat like I do. I did try, but she says she tried it before and she is not open to doing it again (and besides, she is someone who needs to GAIN weight and not vice versa). So anyhow, what helps me is I always have had a strict (fairly strict) attitude that I should not eat her food unless it is offered, and she knows not to offer me ice cream, etc. Sometimes she forgets and offers things I can't eat, but I just remind her. I learned a long time ago that I can NOT always control my environment and sometimes my ONLY option for success is to control myself. I live in a world where most of the time the environment and society has opposite opinions to mine as well and while I am an agreeable and social person, I have had to learn to "stick to my guns" on what is important to me, come hell or high water. That's just LIFE. Controlling ME is the hard part and the most essential part. I used to live alone -- back when I could afford to do so (and I didn't like it) -- and I had total control of the kitchen. It really did not help me that much. It was not the big answer to all my dietary problems like I used to think it was, because all I had to do was go to the store and buy some X-rated food. No. It is ME I need to control. A great environment when it can happen is a true GIFT, but I know I cannot expect that of life. I'm just happy to realize that awful craving I went through last night (that lasted for what seemed to be hours) did not break me. I just ended up cooking more starches and now I have potatoes in the fridge prepared as well as ww pasta and salad. Last night I thought there would be no way I could face fasting today, but I am fasting on water today (for Christian version of Day of Atonement). Nonetheless, and even though I totally rebuke people's belief in Darwinism and Dr. Lisle seems married to the idea, he says a lot of things that help me a lot, as do you, Chef AJ. I really appreciate you all being there!

Great broadcast! :) However, I have something to say about the PMS cravings (that you guys mentioned around the 16:00 mark). I am not a person who ever buys candy (namely chocolate) except right before menstruation. I don't keep good track of the dates of my cycle, however, I ONLY crave chocolate right before my period. (In fact, it's so accurate, that I know when I feel those cravings, that is actually my indicator that menstruation is right around the corner.) And again, it's the ONLY time I crave chocolate. (And it's a REAL craving.) But again, the rest of the time, I don't want chocolate at all. (I've always wondered about this.) Thoughts?

I weigh now 62 kilos for 1meter 65 I wanna be between 50 and 55 as I don't need to hit the 40s anymore Cause I'm super healthy now even thow every one keeps telling me our way of eating is sick control pleasure free life in prison etc. Sooo I was eating apples and boiled oats and steamed fennel and zucchini. I quit the apples!!! Yes. One week ago I said fuck plateauing aj said 2 pounds a month. Dr Lisle said every month it goes down at least a little. So I cried a lot cause apples were my last reason to rejoice eating thus making me cramm a little I admit, and now I dread being hungry cause those lentils and potatoes boiled are tasteless and even my steamed veggies taste better Obviously it satisfies me cause I wouldn't sustain it otherwise but it is satisfying for 5 minutes and then I have to stop or ill gag which is a good thing obviously and I think it's gonna work this time The good thing is now I'm eating even more veggies like a huuuge lot quite expensive actually. So anyway if this doesn't work im gonna quit high gi potatoes and eat dried oats and if this still doesn't work no im not gonna reduce my starch intake even thow that's what dr Lisle is proposing no. If this doesn't work I'm getting my stomach cut of like them obese ppl in some dodgy country. Dr Lisle asked to write him before I do that I said ok. Anyway you did save me I now don't think about food ever and I take care of my daughter super well and the house and all instead of smoking drinking coffee and puking oily salad. My weight thow is still not ok. Thank you for encouragements ... Joanna
