I used to say that I am a carnivore and that there have been some negative conotations for some people. Now I just tell them I eat protein. Don't tell them whether it's plant or meat. Save a lot of arguments. I never looked down on anybody who is a vegan or vegetarian, but they do look down on me. To each their own, I am much healthier since I've started eating meat (protein). Love your work in helping us understand the proper dier. 😊

I was just thinking this yesterday...with some exceptions for instance my daughter and niece are vegetarian and they always go out of their way to make sure I have meat to eat at family dinners. I also tend to encourage them to up their protein in the form of eggs and dairy and the do try to take that advice.

After 63 years of life I have come to accept that I have an addictive personality and not able to moderate with all kinds of things and experiences. It’s annoying! However, the carnivore woe has really helped me stay level headed with lovely calm blood sugar levels and a body that actually feels well most of the time. My friends and family do not approve of my woe, but when they see that I don’t eat ANY ultra processed foods, sugar, alcohol, coffee, tea or fizzy pop, they can’t knock it!

I love listening to interviews like this because I can relate so well. Once you start to take control of your eating, it’s a mine field to find what is right for you. I have had to tweek and re-tweek my eating in the pursuit of feeling good physically and mentally.

Just for the record, the 12 step communities do expect relapses and have a plan for when it happens. The plan is essentially, be kind to yourself and get back on the program. Point taken though. This was an interesting discussion about food addiction that really has me thinking about my own responses to food.

I totally agree...I hate when I hear...everything is ok in moderation...it's just not true. I also hate the healthy at any size movement...it does not serve obese people well. It's okay to love your body as it is, but Overweight and Obesity is not, and never will be, healthy. People want these things to be true so really latch on to it.

What if your body "settles" at higher body fat than is considered obese? Like 40%...64 year old woman. Lost over a hundred pounds, got down to a weight that was "normal" by all the standard measures but developed anemia. Judi, you helped me overcome the anemia with a higher fat diet but I put on a lot of weight and can't get it off again.

I’m an Abstainer from sugar, flour & starches. I’m a Carnivore for almost 3 years now, but on special occasions will moderate dairy and maybe a green veg if it was served on a plate (I wouldn’t choose it, and have never binged on a green leaf)

absolutely agreed. I almost didn´t watch this because it was in the title (shame on me for wanting to ¨throw the baby out with the bathwater.¨ ) But the rest of her story and the solutions she offers are excellent. I lost a close friend to bulimia when she was only 28, and had just finished her Master´s degree. It was heart-breaking. Thank you both, Mary and Judy.

One of the real challenges on carnivore for some people is getting enough protein and calories in. If replacement foods help in that endeavor I would tend to support it.

I love this video! oh my gosh I can totally relate to binging on Greek yogurt, that’s exactly what I did this past week and I paid the price. I felt awful the last few days, and then, of course, added butter and cheese and more Greek yogurt! I got back on track first thing this morning and I’m finally starting to feel better. I honestly felt like I was hung over for the last three or four days. Ugh ! I always think oh I can just have a little…I’ll be fine this time, but it never works out that way unfortunately!

I was doing really well following Carnivore way of eating since May of this year and I had people noticing how it was improving my health in terms of my skin, energy and my weight. Then I had a miscarriage in August and got really sick and fell off. I have had a hard time getting back on it especially as it's coming in to winter and the holidays. Trying to understand how I can work past this food addiction, especially surrounded by family that doesn't support it.

I know people who started on keto and had great success initially, but then fell into the keto snacks, breads, and treats. Despite their initial success with keto, they blame the diet for not being "strict enough" and move on to carnivore. Then the second they start carnivore they start looking for carnivore snacks, breads, and treats. And when they fail, they'll blame the diet.

It's not possible for sugar to be "very" addictive because I've never heard of any smoker or drug addict being able to go a whole day without their fix; but it's perfectly possible for a sugar "addict" to have sugar-free days. The problem is always that addictive substances like alcohol, drugs and tobacco are moderated and controlled by the state, whereas you can't get away from sugar being shoved in your face night and day. I'm sorry that when Mary mentioned the fat positivity movement that she, as everyone else, forgot to say that listening to conventional doctors and following their lead is simply being reasonable; and that it is therefore completely logical for fat people who have tried and failed to lose weight by following mainstream medical advice to conclude that whatever their weight is IS normal and healthy. And then they get told by the carnivore community that they just aren't trying hard enough to find out the truth... when the truth is the polar opposite of what every doctor out there tells them to do. Fat people are just supposed to guess where the truth lies and that the truth is the polar opposite of what every doctor says, just like they're just supposed to lose weight by eating less and exercising more. Everyone is fatphobic, especially considering that most of the fat people persecuted for their weight are women, so there's also an element there of misogyny. But as you can see even in a discussion between two women, as is the case here, this aspect is never brought up. Thanks for nothing, sisters.

There are different aspects of health. Metabolic is one but structural and functional health is also imprtant. There is a relation but they can have no relation in some people. That is, some very metabolically unhealthy people can be functionally healthy, and some metabolically healthy types can be functional wrecks. The big problem I see in the carnivore community right now is this complete blindspot, complete ignorance of human structure and function. Instead, they think fitness is health and worse than that, are focused on aesthetics, six packs and big arms that are probably signs of poor health.
