Wow! First song he ever wrote? To me that song is already radio ready.

I am in tears, like literally shaking. The way he talks about his mom's last day, and how she was in a good mood hits so close to home because my beautiful mommy jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge in 2018. During her last month she helped move me into college, and when she left she randomly upgraded her flight to first class. I didn't think anything of it at the time, but I now know by that point she'd already made her mind up, and she just wanted to experience it before she left this world. Her final day was the same; she was happy, we facetimed, she told me she loved me more (the 'more' was important) and then approximately 4 hours later, in the early morning hours, she jumped. She was happy in her final few weeks because she'd already made her mind up prior and knew soon she'd be at peace, she just didn't want to do it before I moved to college because I was so excited. She was my courageous, beautiful hero that protected me until the very end. I would have given my life if it meant she'd been able to live pain free, but she truly believed she was a burden, she couldn't shake this feeling that she simply didn't belong. Depression is a disease that is stronger than all the love in the world. I miss her so much, but I understand that she could no longer stay. I think it's important to acknowledge that in general mom's have this instinct to protect everyone around them which means they often forget they matter too. Please, if you're ever having thoughts of suicide reach out, someone loves you and someone would be lost without you. Go hug your mom.

Yeah I spent most of my adult life despising country music for some reason but over the last few years it’s grown to become my favorite genre. It’s just so real and authentic and can turn your whole mood around.

Not generally a country fan, but this young man is a great songwriter and storyteller. Emotional and deep. Loved his voice. I actually thought he was better than the other male country singers we've seen so far

I thought his songwriting was guy-wrenchingly good and his voice had some nice timbre and a pleasant twang…don’t rele know why Luke was so hard on him; but glad he made it through 🎉

That was a great audition. The way he put his soul into his original song and looked up to honor his momma was so touching.His song writing skills, will get him a high paying job in Nashville.

I love how my cousin Preston has come so far! Hard to believe he was a lil knee-scraper when we were growin' up and now he's made it to American Idol! So proud of the kiddo! And I know Aunt Mary B (his mama) would be super proud of him too 💕💕💕

Beautiful! Sounds like a hit song already. Mental depression is real. I suffered with it growing up on into my adult life. My son is my reasons for not taking my life. He needs me even more now and I need me as well. I love myself past Pluto I’m blessed to say that I’m better…much better. I have BP1 and systematically destroyed my life 4 times. This makes me so sad because of how much I hurt my family. Sometimes I wish they knew what it was like then I don't because then they would feel bad. Even the doctors don't understand bipolar. I'm so sorry he lost his mom it's so horrifying. He is an amazing songwriter.

What a powerful song for him to write. This message resonates with many.

My mom passed away in January and man did that song hit my heart deeply. I was over here with tears flowing brother. Great song and definitely believe we will hear it on the radio in the near future.

He has great acoustic abilities. Raw pure talent. Self taught I bet. This is a tough one to ever bet against. Strong southern man. I can see him doing much more song writing. But he ain't afraid to shine either. Btw thats a hit he just sang. Numero ono folks. Id bet my best SC boots on it!😘👍🎤🎼

He was moreso pointing out that he is the front runner in terms of rawness and song writing, but some of the other guys this season may have been doing music/lessons their whole life, so he still has a lot of room to grow vocally too.

That’s a country writer for sure! His story made me bawl-I’ve dealt with mental illness for close to 30 years and I fight everyday. I pray his momma is free of her pain and his guardian angel. May she RIP and good luck young man ❤

So today I was ministering to someone and they asked, "Why does God allow us to go through hard things in life if he is such a loving God?" I felt that was an amazing question, and I told him that it can be a testimony on how you got through it. This song was 100% a confirmation of what I was explaining today, and I agree that I love the strong melody and his pitch; the song was simply amazing. Keep your head up and your faith in God, and know that He does things for a reason and He loves you!

I lost my mom to suicide when I was 18. I had 5 younger siblings and ended up getting guardianship of my 2 little brothers. It's the biggest loss of my life. I'm rooting for this guy to make it BIG!
