Iam Tongi Makes The Judges Cry With "Monsters" And His Emotional Story - American Idol 2023

Ойын-сауық

This one’s a tearjerker! Iam lost his dad, Rodney, just a few months ago and says he can still hear him harmonizing with him on every song he sings. Rodney taught Iam music from a very young age and always wanted his son to try out for American Idol. Iam is so emotional in the room that he has trouble starting his song, dedicated to his dad.

This kid was my neighbor. He, his mom and his sister came to our house and sang to us on our front porch. He came over and he and I sang together while he played that guitar. I remember when his dad passed. It was so sad. I am so happy for him.

My mother was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer on November 28, 2023. In that time I have seen her fight for each day and to choose to make each say her best. She is my bestfriend, I cannot imagine what life is going to be without her. We are within the final stages and we don't know how long we have. Each day is a gift and a blessing. This man's story touched a deep part of my soul. That was beautiful. I'll be showing my mom this video. I know she's going to love it.

He didn't just share his music... he gave us a priceless gift. Iam Tongi, thank you.

I listen and replay it over and over and over. Honestly it’s a great release. As a man, we all need this release. It doesn’t matter if you’ve experienced it, or will experience this pain…. It lets you know we all have an expiration date, we will never know when it is. So, hug everyone, be the greatest person you can be. Find something in your day that will make you happy and appreciative.

As an older musician of 35 years myself, I rarely give anyone a chance these days. Iam, something about you made me pause for a moment and lend my attention to you. When you began telling your story, I listened even closer...and then you began singing this song. In my 51 years there have been maybe 4 artists to bring me to tears and only one who brought tears that I could not stop. That was you!! Regardless of the results of this competition, I have no doubt you will go far with your talent. Your rendition of this song is so very special and I will pray that God brings you success. You deliver a love that is so rare in music these days. My heart broke during this performance but I immediately became a fan. This song, whether yours or not, was written for you to sing at this special moment in your journey. I truly wish you all the best in your career and life. As a Veteran, I salute you and as a father I send you my respect. Your father would absolutely be proud and is definitely shining on you. Bravo good sir. God Bless.

He passed while I was in the air and to this day I regret not getting to say goodbye. This young man expressed in just a couple of minutes how anyone who has lost a parent feels. The roles change, father to son, mother to daughter, but the love lives on, and the memories are forever.

My dad is going to get a better and better version of me from now on! Cheers to you and hope you do well too!

I’ve watched this video over a dozen times already. But, it never fails to bring me to tears every single time I watch it. Touching story backed by an AMAZING voice from this young man! Kate was not lying when she said that he could’ve wrote that song. It’s like it was made just for him. I hope he gets over that hump and just finally learns how to cope with the loss of his father. And I say that because it’s been over a year since my dad has passed and I STILL be having to fight all those emotions away sometimes. I don’t think you could ever “move on” from such a strong bond between somebody you love so much, just get taken away from you like that. You end up just learning how to deal with that pain every single day. I know exactly what he’s going through and I wish him the best! I was so happy when I found out that he won. I’m sure him and his family needed that boost of confidence and it probably brought back hope for them as well. Especially in hard times like we’re in now. Anyway….. I’ll stop my rant now lol RIP Rodney and RIP Papi! I love and miss you so much 💜

My father always tells me this, ''Anyone can be a dad, it takes a real man to be a father.'' you can see in his face his father was a real man thick n thru. Love seeing this memory every once in a great while. Rest in paradise Rodney your son is a beautiful soul in resemblance to the man that raised him.
