If he re-releases this song as an acoustic, he may very well break some sales/streaming records. Also, can we note that despite the emotion... he played the guitar absolutely flawlessly. Second nature. And for those who thought he was a sympathy pick... listen to this entire reel. He didn't miss a note, a string, or a moment. This is as good a talent on this show since La'Portia. Oliver Steele said in a recent interview that he pegged Iam to win back during Hollywood Week, before he knew anything about Iam’s dad Rodney other than Rodney was the one who got him into music. Oliver said what he saw about Iam that set him apart from everyone else was how he could hear Iam’s love of people, music, and culture in every song he sang. And it was identifiable from the first note.

For him to close his eyes every time he sees his dad harmonizing along. Such a beautiful effect 😭

He's my top 1 overall & willie spence 2nd (may willie RIP), with ruben studdard at 3rd all time AI favorite male singers. I watch many music competitions, but have never watched & connected to other contestants as i did with iam. His choices in songs was like a roadmap of his life & soul, they always had meaning. Rodney may he rest in peace, was more than a great father. He was a teacher who gave his son the tools to pave his path. I cant wait to follow his journey. This young man is extraordinary, talented & special.

After years of having competitors try to sing like Mariah Carey or Freddie Mercury because that’s what we’ve been conditioned to expect, we get someone who sings more like Bruddah Iz. And that’s what the show needed.

He's an old soul in this modern world. His voice calms me, and you can really feel the emotions the song wants to bring.

We've been watching Idol for years, and we were moved to vote for the first time. Iam's voice transcends to us that gives shows us love and gives us hope. That is prodigy-esque musicianship & pure unfiltered talent. His voice is like his soul, the calm in the storm & sun breaking apart the clouds, yet when he lets loose it hits like a ton of bricks straight to the heart. Humble, kind, compassionate. His song choices were like a roadmap to his soul as each held special meaning to him & his family. Have never felt a connection like this to other contestants & have watched many music shows, as i have with Iam. Wishing him all the best on his journey. His parents raised a beautiful son major respect to rodney & lillie, and rodney was a wonderful teacher too giving his son the tools to build his own path.

I love how humble he was that he didn't think he would make it into the top 24.

Tongi is so brave, he is only 18 and he is singing in front of crowds. The most amazing thing about his performances are he sings with his eyes closed. It shows he is truly passionate about what he is performing and singing, it shows that he is here for the experience, to connect with the music. He is so likeable, the way he smiles it is so in the moment. He connects with his soul.

I'm at the bus and ugly crying because this man really hits my soul🥺 I'm so glad that he won, he truly deserves to be heard.

I recently saw an interview with Oliver where he admitted that taping the lyrics to the guitar was his idea. He said Iam was worried he’d get in trouble and reassured him he wouldn’t, the judges wouldn’t even care, and that they’d even like it. And Oliver was right… sort of. 😉

Best season of American Idol. So many awesome singers. The judges are great. And then the world met Iam Tongi. He touches the soul. Such a beautiful human. His voice is so beautiful. Mesmerising. I could listen to him for hours and hours...(& have done over the past 8 weeks!) Congratulations Iam. American got it right. You're a star. A story teller. A musician. You're voice is your best instrument. ❤❤❤

Ive lost my father about 12 years now. I can talk about it, look at photos, all without a problem, not a single tear drop, not because i didnt love my father, but because i fully understand the "circle", or at least i thought i understood... Until i saw this guy sing the 1st song for the audition... (As a portuguese, i dont see American Idol, so i randomly on my daily journey on youtube end in here) and i was not able to hold the tears... i did not cry for this matter, for years... Music as this power, i dont no...

I lost my mother at 18, and I know it's not the same but just months after she passed my dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's, so although he is still with me 1 year after my mom passed I know I'm ultimately going to watch him fade away from me, and it just tears me apart.

Iam's story is magical..his voice is beautiful, and he just knows how to melt you're Soul. Those weren't Auditions...they were full on Concert Perfomances. It's so awesome to have watched these when they aired, and have watched where he took this Win and where he will go from here. He has BIG things in store for him! Keep playing beautiful music Iam! I liked the fact that when Iams guitar was broken and had to use another one, Oliver saw how much it upset him and helped him through the performance with his support and encouragement. Would love to see them tour together.

I've never been brought to tears by a song in such a way before as i was by his first audition song. My dad is still alive thankfully and i love him so much, i felt this guys heartbreak and love so powerfully.He delivered an amazing performance that i wasn't prepared for.

@ Frost Bite I haven't seen an American idol season be so soulful, emotional and gratefulness this young man touched my heart I'm 59 and I lost my Mom back in 2012 til this day it's still surreal, @Iam baby boy your 18 yrs of age and by the grace of God you are where you are supposed to be I pray your career last quite a long time

Esatto, riesce ad interpretare ogni canzone col suo talento. Lo avevo visto dal primo ingresso con la prima canzone. Un personaggio che si distingue anche se mi ricorda tanto Israel Iz.

He has a beautiful soul and it shines thru his voice and perfect songs. I rarely cry, but these performances were so heartfelt - I cried joyfully for him sharing his powerful voice.

The best American Idol winner in my opinion. He is already my favorite singer. What a voice, what emotion and soul pour into his singing.

It’s been 8years and I can’t say I’ve healed from losing my Dad💔 I’ll be 26 this year and I still can’t listen to certain songs or watch videos like this without turning into that child again losing him all over again 💔💔💔😖
