I had a 2002 busa for 17 years and it is an incredible bike. I also love the 14, a toss up for me, would be happy with either one. Odd as it sounds I replaced the busa with a 2019 honda cb500x because 95% + of my riding time is urban commuting and the busa was honestly a chore to ride in the city due to the combination of massive hp, weight. long wheel base and tall gearing. The 500x is sooo good and comfy and easy as a commuter I love it!...and I still have a bandit 1250 when I need a torque fix ;)

My two current rides are 2012 Gen 2 Busa and 2013 Gen 2 ZX14R . I have modded both bikes to handle better for my enjoyment , and both are now effective carvers . Most know the latest 1000 's are basically the true sportbike racer choice , but because of my painful and plentiful old riding injuries , I chose the more roomy , comfortable and heavier choice bikes , for my two big cc mod platforms . Both machines are sporting BST wheels , full Ti exhausts and dialed in Ohlins forks and rear shock , and are the most fun I can have with me clothes on !! Stay sharp and safe mates !!

A very reliable predictable , enjoyable , gutsy ride . The ZX14R , I have owned for just a year . I really like it and now have it handling very nicely . It sure is a monster and so much fun to ride with shorter gearing and ECU release , but tighter spaced design so more difficult to work on . The bike is savage on full throttle , it has serious urge in the low gears . I have shed a shit load of kg off it now , and has been thoroughly gone over , (been tracing some gremlins) , it will be back on the road shortly . The ZX14R carries its weight low , so you get on it and it responds with very good agility , the Busa feels heavier at the controls , and more planted solid feel , both are rock steady at all speeds , the Busa just feels like a an old school bike , which it is , the ZX14R feels more modern .

I just love the Hayabusa and it's cult like following. The look of the Hayabusa is unmistakable. I give Suzuki a thumbs up for leaving the styling alone after all these years. I've wanted one since the early 2000s and was just finally able to get the guts to purchase one. What an incredible machine!!! Sure, there are quicker bikes available now days but this thing has way more than I'll ever need or be able to use as it was in stock form. Even so, I couldn't resist the temptation to make it faster and change a few things that I thought could be improved from original. I've added a Brock's Performance exhaust system and some other performance mods that I'm pretty sure will make it roost any stock ZX 14 on the street. The exhaust system is absolutely beautiful and also much lighter than the original. Other than the aftermarket chain and sprockets which are much lighter and stronger along with the exhaust, you would think it's completely factory original by walking up and looking at it. While it's winter and way too cold to ride anyway, I've decided to take it completely apart and give it some body mods and a new custom paint job. The paint was nice as original but I just want it to be personalized just for me. The cost of the paint job would be way out of my budget but thankfully I have a paint and body shop at my home equipped with everything I need to make it a showpiece. I recently retired from a forty + year career in painting cars and motorcycles, alot of it being in the crazy custom sector of the industry, so finally will have some time to take care of a few of my long awaited visions of way back. I really enjoy getting online and watching your videos and others like them for both enjoyment and motivation. Hello Kwackajack, Thank you for your reply to my comment. The Hayabusa is actually my 4th bike taking a spot in my garage. Along with the Busa is a tricked out Harley Davidson V-rod 2006, a fully restored 1990 Yamaha Venture, and a just recently finished last winter, a completely restored 1989 Honda Goldwing. As you can see, I really enjoy taking an old bike, completely disassemble, suspension upgrades, engine and exhaust upgrades, brakes and electrical, follow all of this with a complete high quality Glasurit 3 stage urethane paint job. The V-rod has the most exotic paint job out of all of them, it is a wildly customized bike! Whenever it is parked at a restaurant or even just refueling, always draws a crowd. The Yamaha has a very unique custom paint job, from a distance it looks like a candy red paint job with the traditional two-tone panels. It's funny, when people get close to this bike they always have to touch it. Reason being, the two-toned panels are actually air brushed to look like real wood, and it really does look real. Inside the panels, over the top of the airbrushed wood

  • @kellymackie3982

    @kellymackie3982

    3 жыл бұрын

Sorry, didn't finish explaining the paint job. I'm old and not very computer wize so I wish I knew how to just send photos along with the comment but I don't so I'll continue where I left off. On the Venture paint scheme, over the top of the airbrushed wood is a double layer of ghost flames done in rustic looking colors with a dropped shadow airbrushed to make them appear to be standing a 1/4" above the wood. Then to finish off the two-toned panels there are tiny gold and orange pinstripes that separate the two colors, which also make the panels appear more dimensional. All of this is followed with multiple coats of clear, wet sanded between to produce glass like finish when completed. The before mentioned Goldwing I was lucky enough to find from the original owner. Only having just over 30k miles and excellent care and maintenance it's entire life, It was the closest thing to factory perfect original that you have ever seen, incredible score! At first, I wanted to change the color and make it more my style but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. So after completely dismantling it, I matched the color and painted only a few parts that had flaws that were too much to just polish out with the buffing machine. It's a perfect old guy bike, it has lots of chrome, original paint color and just all around mint condition, looks like it was taken out of a time capsule. It is my most favorite bike for all around riding. Every time I take it for a long ride and really get to use it for what it was made for, I wonder how something so old can perform so amazing. I've ridden my friend's 2016 model for a long ride and you know what, it really isn't that much different. Crazy huh? The V-rod paint that I was talking about earlier is way too complicated to explain without you actually seeing. It has panels of wavy airbrushed, black n white checkerboard outlined with broken granite, in some areas, the broken and missing chunks of granite reveal the checkerboard below which is shaded with the airbrush to appear to be very deep below. This is all going on over the top portion of all of the body parts and then below that on both sides is a double layer of multi colored pearl flames. Like I said, there is so much more but just too hard to explain. If I had to pay for these paint jobs on my bikes I could never afford to have such elaborate paint work so I am very thankful that God gave me that gift. Since I was a young kid, I would never leave my toys and then bicycles, then dirt bikes, I always had to change them so they were something no one else could copy. In 1975 I bought my first legal street bike, a brand new Yamaha RD 350. That little bike was a rocket for it's size back in those days and got me in alot of trouble because of it. It was beautiful to my eyes but I just couldn't leave it alone either. Within 6 months of buying it, I changed the color from the factory orange to a bright blue metallic with yes, you guessed it, more flames. I've always just loved a great flame job! While I was painting it, a friend took the engine and did a bunch of porting work, changed the Reed valves, and we ordered those cool low slung twin black expansion chambers, (exhaust system). That thing was so fast after that, I could beat pretty much anyone unless they were riding the Kawasaki 750 triple. Believe me, it would hang with and actually beat most of the Kawasaki 500s that ever tangled with it back then. Another friend went to Hinshaws Honda, bought a brand new 1976 Honda 750 4 cylinder. After he was all broken in and comfortable with the bike, he thought he was going show me how fast his pig of a bike was. That was a blast! That little Yamaha ran off and left that 750 so far in the dust, incredible lesson he learned that day! So funny! Someday I would really like to find one that hasn't been molested too bad, (probably impossible) and restore it to the exact clone of the one I had way back then. Maybe next project. Sorry, kind of got off track with my thoughts. In highschool I was fortunate enough to land a job in an auto body paint shop so for the rest of my career I could keep improving my craft. Now that I am retired I can finally build my long awaited Hayabusa project. Since the last time we talked, I have completely dismantled it and getting all the body parts ready for paint. Like I told you before, I have always been in love with the Hayabusa and knew what I want it to look like long before I ever purchased one. The main body color will be the super bright orange tangerine pearl with a few coats of tangerine candy to give it a deep vivid glow. I know what I think I want for the graphics colors but don't want to say until I do my spray out samples and make a decision. I really like the custom chrome wheels that are available but want to make sure that they won't affect the high speed stability and handling. I would love to get your input on this. If the wheels aren't as good as the stock wheels I can always paint the stock to look even better than chrome so having a hard time deciding. The extended swingarm fat tire kit is a really cool look but would completely trash the handling characteristics, (and the $7,000 price tag) so that idea is a no go. I've bought a ton of parts that I think will really help make it what I'm hoping for but also open to any suggestions. Anyway, this will keep me busy for a little while and I will keep you updated on the project. I'm really glad I found your channel, not much into forums or anything like that but having a pal in Australia who I can share with and bounce ideas sounds pretty cool so, I'll definitely stay in touch ok. If you ever decide to make the trip to Eatonville Washington USA, I will have a bike for you to ride while you're visiting. We have some beautiful places to ride starting just two minutes from my door ranging from sport bike, to touring, or even just all around cruising and checking out the scenery. Great chatting with ya! Happy holidays. I think it's actually your summer time so stay safe and keep the right side up when you're riding the bikes

Own both. a 2002 40th anniversary "pumpkin" Busa and a 2006 ZX14 lightning Blue. Now these are older mechanicals but the ZX14 is smoother and more comfortable at speed to ride farther. The Busa is a raw machine. Balance and heavier weight (IMHO) affect handling. Busa launches hard. ZX launches less so but speed builds faster. When I ride, I usually choose the ZX.

Even accessing the battery sucks, the plugs are a 2 hour job, the side plastic tabs snap off very easy. Busa may lack power, but just a very well designed bike for ease to work on and quality just feels better.

Had both, current one being zzr. The ZZR is the better one of the two, better handling far better brakes( it stops!!) busa brakes were very wooden and no ABS. They are the same weight and about the same length. Busa is a marmite bike. It’s styling isn’t for everyone but I loved it. I did 26,000 miles on mine and it never missed a beat. The ZZR is 5yrs old and has now cover 31,000 from new with me and not missed a beat either. Both had the SW Motech panniers and were never comprised by them hanging off either side of them. Both toured bloody well and it was a real wrench handing over the keys to the dealer when I purchased my ZZR! After a the Z was run in it was clearly the better bike and I fell in love with it. busa is easier to build imo bc you can separate the cylinders from the lower cases where the kawi is all cast as a single unit. have fun trying to replace the cylinders or increase its displacement. with the busa you can replace just the cylinders and leave the lower half alone making it easier to swap out top ends. busa is also easier to work on with engine in chassis bc the frame wraps around the engine where on the kawi it goes over it. both are great bikes and the kawi is faster out of the box but if you are planning to build a king, busa all the way.

I sat on the ZX14, not knowing anything about the bike. Oh yes!! Soft seat, leg room and no constant leaning reaching for the bars. I knew nothing about the bike, did some research and was hesitant on buying this speedy machine. But I bought it anyway. LOVED IT!! Living in NY, I put 45k on it in 3 years. I moved to Poland and sold it because the roads here at the time were not made for a bike like this. I never lost an "impromptu" race on the highways in NY. Oh, and notice the shape of the rear tail lights. Shaped in a "V" for Victory.

I found the zx14 back in 2006 when i bought the first model, in red, brand new that I chose the Kawasaki over a Buss as I found the zx14 to be less to be less edgy. Despite that I prefer the Busas rear treatment. The zx14r is an all round bike. It even handles well on dirt roads. I believe its going up in value already so I will keep mine for sometime, though at 67 I feel that by 75 it be time to trade for something tamer....msybe a 1200 Thruxton. The Kawasaki are is deceotively hyper fast and after jumping off my truck like Roadliner ....which I got for retirement..theres a big adjustment to be made. 1st off I have owned two Zx14's. The Suzuki has its following because the motor allows for virtually unlimited modifications which..IS a good thing for drag racing. On the road, Kawasaki has vastly better brakes stock (feel, stopping power). Suzuki also has a very little throttle return spring so you need a good throttle hand since no traction control if your ham fisted. I have friends with Busa's but after riding the bike the lack of serious brakes for the speed potential and the awkward (for me riding position) were non-starters. Now on to my beloved ZX14R. Two things immediately jump out versus the Busa, tremendously smooth power that is deceptive (feels slower than it is actually going at less than WOT) and the fantastic handling (when setup properly) the key is to dial the suspension in to your actual weight and then its transformed for something near 600 lbs (stock) wet weight. Most importantly, TOSS THE FACTORY PIPES. A good aftermarket pipe is 20+ lb weight loss (and when you tune your suspension for that weight..loss its tremendous difference) Lastly, both bikes really require the very best road tires to use anything near their ability..safely. Each owner has a preference there. For me (I am in US) the bike is BEST enjoyed on extremely remote, rural roads with a mix of fast sweepers and appropriately long (4th gear @ 11k at least) straights. Here that's the western half of the country. California, Arizona, Oregon, Nevada top my list with California being "mythically" wonderful for its endless supply of canyons, desert and just plain "GOD made this for motorcycles" roads. I road my ZX14R (2012) cross country twice and THAT was the most epic motorcycle "experience" possible to imagine. Here on the east coast North Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee and...Virginia have great roads relatively close to home in Florida. You can't REALLY use either one fully on public roads..safely (especially on the east coast) Out west you can. Living in Florida I a few hidden bits of good roads, but nothing like the mountains out west. In closing, Properly set up, NOTHING beats the effortless power and reliability of the ZX14R. 50k road miles on mine in all types of weather (except snow) and temps from 15F to 110F . Btw, you..REALLY don't want your gas cap to freeze shut on one. Riding in the mountains in 20F weather to pass thru..before a snowstorm will do that (Anybody been to William's, Arizona?) 👍

Ahhh don't make me pick lol. Own a gen II busa but always go back and forth. I agree the balance is amazing on the zx14, feels like your riding a 600cc. Might have to add a zx14 to the garage and have the best of both lol. Both great bikes in their own legacies !

Hwy 130 from Patterson to san jose in California USA. How would these 2 fair before drag day? That's the real test. I'm trying to decide between the 2 but both are calling my name.

Completely unbiased opinion but I am partial to a Kawasaki. Lol It just looks more practical. I own a 2020 VMax and I’m quite happy sitting in the upright riding position, no more leaning over for me. But it is fun to look around, even at 60.🏍

Started with 2007 ZX-14 then the upgraded to 2012 ZX-14 at 48k I traded it for a 2017 ZX-14 now I have a 2020 ZX-14. Loved them all but the best are 2012 and newer!

Had mine for over 2 years, still makes me giggle when opening it up on a windy road 😅. The torque is just amazing.... And knowing I can break every Australian speed limit(140km in NT) in 1st gear is just hilarious 😂

The first gen was still more powerful than the gen 1 busa by a good bit. The 2gen busa came out in 08 and it was a dead heat.

Very lucky, got brand new zzr14ps back in 2015 (2014 model with ohlins etc, mine is ex Kawasaki Uk show bike so has a few extras) - can’t imagine ever selling, so smooth, ballistic and comfy (I’m 6’4 and 130kg). You really can’t go wrong with either the kwikasfuky or the busa, numbers are irrelevant in real world - get one and pray god be safe - formula 1 fast with number plates and near 50mpg 😂😂😂

It's a common thing to compare two things which are more similar than they are different. They both seem amazing and dangerous. I would love to have one, but probably need more time on my first bike in about 25 years-KTM 790 Duke which only is capable of 100 hp or there abouts.
