Harry allowed the game to breathe. He did not chatter needlessly. He spoke in specific terms at the moment when a good broadcaster should speak. Harry was so great one could define his excellence in terms of his silences. And when Rich Ashburn was by his side, the Harry's succinctness and Richie's dryness blended into perfection.

I left work for Whitey's Funeral and spent the night at the Bank after the game against the Padres for Harry's Funeral. My childhood finally ended at the age of 41 when we lost Harry. Great Memories and it still gets me whenever I think about or see videos like this one. Thank You for some of the Greatest Memories of my life and RIP Fellas.

Both Richie and Harry will be missed. To say they will never be replaced is false. To say they are irreplaceable is true. RIP Richie and Harry.

Richie an Harry always remind me of fishing at Pecks pond every Sunday with my Dad an brother an listening to them on the radio. And they also remind me being at home an listening to the radio instead of the TV, just so we could listen to both of them call the game. These two have given me cherished memories that I will never forget.

God, I miss Harry so much! I was in sixth grade, everybody was preparing for morning announcemets when the screen said, "RIP Harry Kalas 1936-2009". I did not know who he was during that time.

I can only imagine how heartbreaking watching this surely must have been at the time. How Harry was able to keep his composure and not understandably break down while reciting that heartfelt poem about his best friend, and longtime broadcast partner on the air, I'll never know. Harry himself even admitted he was never quite the same after this, and still mourned Whitey being gone after all those years he outlived him. Even then, Ashburn's death didn't quite really compare to Harry's sudden passing a dozen years later, which had to have been over twice as devastating to Phillies, and many baseball fans in general.

I use to work at Lit Brothers in downtown Philly..after I would get off work I would head right to the ballpark..Richie was one of my favorite players,he was a great lead off man, always getting on..just a slap hitter but always got on base. If I remember he beat out the great Willie mays for the batting title on the last day of the season. At that time Gene Kelly was the announcer along with byrom Samm

Daners 424 Yep, some of my greatest memories with my family were because of them two. Boy did he love the Phillies. I remember lots of times him getting mad an cracking jokes in the heat of the moment when they made bad calls, it was the best. Thank you Harry an Whitey for some of the best times as a Phillies fan, even though we stunk most of the times, you guys made it enjoyable.

At 5:30, no truer words were spoken. Harry continued to remember (and openly mourn) His Whiteness for the next 11-1/2 years, until they were once again reunited. As Harry said at 6:27, Whitey & Harry were best friends. They even passed away nearly the exact same way from heart attacks - Whitey after a Mets game at Shea (his final team as a player) and Harry before a Nationals game in DC. Harry grew up as a Washington Senators fan.

I heard the news of the passing of His Whiteness by none other than Pierre Robert. Pierre knows literally nothing about any sports but knew the importance of the loss for "the boys in blue" as he broadcast the news.
