That character acts very similar to old people that have dementia . That's the way they go on . Memory badly functioning and recollection of events all mixed up .

This was Harry Enfield in his prime, Absolute masterclass of the art of the comedy sketch, which no longer has the same wide appeal as in this era ~ Just Brilliant.

Brilliant , Harry is arguably the best comic of all time.

I am not surprised to hear that this character was based upon a sailor. Michael Ripper plays a retired sailor in the movie The Reptile and has a similar beard.
