Ohh wow, that's stunning, nicely done. Keep thinking of buying one of these, if only to slow down my far too busy playing habits😉😎

Thanks for your review Paul. Like what you've done with the headstock. I've just bagged one of these on Facebook Marketplace for not a lot of cash. Mine arrived with the scratchplate already removed (no holes underneath), some very expensive flatwounds fitted and an upgraded Wilkinson bridge with brass saddles. Well chuffed with it so far :)

Nick Hynes Thanks Nick. I think the earlier models (which by the sound of it you have) were superior to the current models. I believe they’ve changed factory recently. But for such a cheap bass they’re still amazing. Enjoy your bass!

Great job on the bass. I like what you did with the neck and good to see you didn't put a "Fender" logo on it (not that it matters, not my bass) just my option. The lacquer job is very nice as well.

Great job on the headstock. Nice. Can't see the contours of the decal. How many layers of Nitro did you spray over it and did you sand between layers? I've just ordered a decal from R&F. Hope it turns out as good as yours.

Hello. I’m about to do something similar. I have a neck already. I wonder what size those tuning machines are? If they would fit my neck, which has holes from Fender 70’s tuning machines. Can anyone tell me?

Just a question Paul I’ve bought one of these and intend to something similar did you mask off the frets when you put on the nitro or sand off later ? And thanks for the good info

paul torr Thznks Paul, I started masking the frets but it was such a fiddle I gave up, spayed the whole thing and removed the lacquer from the frets later. Once it’s cured it chips off easily. Good luck!

An easy hack is just a tad of Vaseline on the finger and carefully and lightly coat the frets, obviously being careful not to get any on the board, then just wipe off after

Hello Paul. First of all, I'm sorry for my bad English. For the mast, did you sand it before giving it the nitrocellulose spray? Or did you give him the spray on the thin layer he already brought? Greetings and thanks, your work has inspired me

Carlos Escobero Villarrubia Hi Carlos, I sprayed straight into the neck; the satin finish it came with was a good base coat. Thanks

Beautiful work Paul! Just ordered a red PB-50 for myself. I love how the pickguard came out and especially the neck. However, the thing I would've done differently with the neck is the way you coated it. I would have only coated the front, and left out the back of it untouched, because you said the back felt nice! You should also replace those dodgy pots and the capacitor on the tone pot. It is a quick and cheap fix. Anyway, great job. I admire the work you done on your bass. Best, Armin P.S. Could you please send me the link to the template you used to reshape the neck?

Hello! I have this exact bass. I'm curious... did you sand the fretboard at all before spraying it with the amber tint nitro?

  • @PaulWilliamGibson

No I just sprayed it straight on. Spray sparingly and build up the colour tone you want.
