Everyone here should consider writing to HB and ask them to make this guitar in butterscotch. I did the other day. I would absolutely buy one of those.

I got one of these and it's my main bass now. I sold my MIM fender jazz because I was just always grabbing this one to play. It is always in tune when I pick it up and I put some classic chrome covers over the bridge and pickup to fancy up the look.

Definitely a great bass for the price!

This bass is reasonably well made, but whoever thought that a stark white, toy-town pick guard was going to enhance this model wasn't ever likely to receive a design award. I've tried one of these guitars and it was very heavy and the neck wasn't too comfortable, either. Everything else was typically budget. All in all, there are many new Chinese manufacturers that are now creating some very interesting guitars, this is merely playing on 50's nostalgia and requires far too many mods and a diet to make it an attractive buy.

Mine isn’t too heavy but the neck profile is definitely on the thicker side, which isn’t to everyone’s taste but fits with the 50s vibe.

I wish Harley Benton off that bass in butterscotch. I wrote to them today to ask them if they had any plans to do that. I love the Sire model but it's 5 times the cost.

You‘re right, that would be a nice color on this bass.

I know you shielded the pickup cavity in your second video, but did you experience any single pickup 'hum' compared with the normal P Bass split pickup configuration? If not, I assume the Roswell pickup is stacked.

  • @basstelkeller

There was a bit of hum/noise before shielding the bass. It got better after I shielded it. If you look at the Roswell website you’ll see that they only offer a single coil version of this pickup.

Hey there, very nice Video. I played guitar in my band the last years but we got a new member who is (a better!) guitarist and so i was picking up the Bass. I have a very cheap No-Name thing which is very aweful, so i'm looking to gett a nice Bass for the band (nothing big only little concerts for friends and family and our weekly band practise). I'm also interessted in modifing some things like the tuners (i have GOTOH on my guitars and i love them!), the pickups or such things. So i'm looking forward to your next video. Would be cool if you could tell why you choose which mod and if there are alternatives. And how to build them ;).

Hello, I just received mine and I see different things, in the electronics area is it possible that it has a paint to make an electric screen? The color is like black, different from all the bass in the electronic areas.

Shielding paint is black. Could be that they do this now. Is there a ground wire connected to the paint?

@@basstelkeller Hello! The color of the paint is like black or very dark gray, applied with a brush, I have not seen that the cable is with the paint, I see a black cable that goes towards the bridge and 3 cables, one white, another yellow and another black towards the pickup If you want photos of the electronics I can send them to you.

Do you know if the neck pocket can fit a real Fender PB 51 neck ?

Sorry, I don’t have a Fender 51 neck so I can’t check. I could measure the width of the neck if this is any help?

No, Fender Tele/Original P necks have a squared neck heel whereas these are rounded at the heel like a typical P Bass

Thank you for taking it apart and exposing how cheaply made these basses are. I almost bought one until I saw this video, I'm gonna buy a Squier Classic vibe 50's P bass instead.

I‘m not sure that’s what I wanted to say with this video. Considering the price, I think these basses are quite well made. I‘ve seen worse on significantly more expensive basses. Maybe I’ll take apart a Squier some time…

squier classic vibes are really great and if you have the money you won't be disappointed. but for a quarter of the cost these are really quite good.
