Harley Benton ST25th, what you NEED to know...

Ойын-сауық

Two months ago, I bought this and I'm here to let you know if I regret that decision. We take a deep dive into the Harley Benton ST-25th Firemist and unearth the good points, the bad points and some bonus bits too. We look at every feature on the guitar and decide if this really was worth the money or if I am experiencing some buyers remorse...
Consider buying one using my affiliate link, it will cost the same as a normal but will give the channel some love too. This helps support the channel and helps me grow it, thank you for your help

The demo gear in this video is all run through Practical Patch cables, including instrument cables and patch cables. These are using some top-quality components, including Neutrik jacks and Van Damme cable and are hand-assembled and tested in the UK. After having off-the-shelf cables for years and suffering failures again and again, I bought some Practical Patch cables and have been happier than ever with them. They also don’t cost you the Earth, which some other hand made cable companies seem to do. If you want to find out more, head over to www.practicalpatch.co.uk to see what they have to offer.

I have 5 Yamaha Pacificas: 2 of them practically new, even the older two show minimal fretware, and love the pickups , neck profile etc. those 5 will last my lifetime... only had one with a slightly warped neck, and that was like 2 years ago, so the quality control might be getting worse with the new ones....maybe no wonder considering where this good old world is going, Ive heard about Gibson and Fender quality issues!!! didnt even notice the neck, cause I never encountered any prob with my Yamaha Pacifica 112Vs!) Your gear vids are very honest and informative, including this one! THANK YOU!!! if buyin stuff is like: 50% good 50% unusable , it gets unbearable moneywise and mindwise.... Some rich guys buy 3 of these, and send 2 back...Im not rich or into that kinda hassle... Thanks BPChap, Im selling the DemonFX King Spark, But keeping a DemonFX at-ds&: the first red distortion with sensitivity and which doesnt scream for a noise gate the moment you stomp it on! ha ha... Great pickup comparison between this and your variax, really shows how dull the stock pickups are. You certainly get a lot for the money with Harley Benton, no question about that, but I always assumed if I ever bought one and I wanted to keep in long-term, I'd be swapping out **all** the electronics. Big question is do you know if they use a standard pickguard? If I had one, I'd be looking to buy a drop-in replacement pickguard with classic quality pickups/electronics that's all wired, but would wonder will it fit and will it be a direct fit or do I have to drill new holes?

  • @BudgetPedalChap

    @BudgetPedalChap

    Жыл бұрын

    Unfortunately I don't, I would make the assumption that it's not a stock guard but it looks close enough that it may just be a case of modifying a precut one. If worst comes to worst, you could take the parts off a premade guard and sub them into the original guard as all that would take would be removing the mounting screws. Hope this helps 👍

    What i did to fix the midrange issue with roswell pickups is change the capacitor value from 0.047uf to 0.015uf. 0.047uf sends way too many too treble frequencies to ground which explains why many HB guitars sound the way they do. Changing the cap value will fix this immediately. A cap costs 50 cents.

    I was very intrigued by your guitar -- until I realized that I pretty much already have it. In the last month or so, I have bought two Donner DST-400s, both in the (not so) transparent black and the transparent green finishes. While watching your video, I began comparing your HB to my Donners, and I believe that the biggest difference between them (aside from the color) is the use of a single-coil-sized humbucker in the bridge position of your HB, whereas my axes use full-sized humbuckers. This isn't a huge difference. Your fretboard wood looks very much like mine and vice versa. Indeed, I have come to believe that the same company built your guitar and 3 of mine, as they all have the exact same headstock shape. I say 3 of my guitars because my last 3 acquisitions include the 2 Donners and my first Harley Benton -- the travel guitar that looks like what I first heard of as a "pickguard" guitar. All have the same headstock as your 25th Anniversary Firemist. My thought is that IYV owns the digital template used to make the necks of these guitars and supplies stock to many retailers, including Thomann. Not unusual, not bad. Now, I'll admit that I like the color of your guitar ... but I'll stick with what I have and smile. I don't think that the new color and smaller bridge pickup will add anything to the mix that I can't do without. That HB looks to be a great axe, though!

    The fusion iii comes with a full sized humbucker rather than a single sized bucker, the bridge on the fusion is a Wilkinson rather than a HB and it comes with roller string trees. The neck profile on the fusion is slightly thicker and it has a roasted maple neck and board, where this has a laurel board. I was also so impressed by the build quality and playability of this that I bought a Fusion. I think both a Squier or one of these would be great for a beginner, I would feel more comfortable gigging this than I would my Squier though as over the years, the cheap frets they installed on the Squier have worn down pretty hard. Harley Benton are beginners guitars. End of. I’ve had them and they are ok. They don’t even come near high end guitars so people stop it. They are what they are. @@BudgetPedalChap Well for one pot metal is used on a lot of the hardware. The pickups while sounding ok are not stellar. These are made of lower quality woods,although the overall guitars are made in Indonesia and vietnam, same factories as Shecter? Who knows! But the corners on the Harley Benton guitars have been cut for all to see. Electronics for one, cheap. Hb= some fretboard wood roseacre! ( heat treated maple?) Shecter = rosewood of fairly high quality. Scenario. You buy a HB. You upgrade it. You upgrade it again. You then realise it’s faults lie partially with the woods and the weight of it. You sell for no more than you originally paid for it. It’s now cost you the best part of twice as much. But if you’d have paid that more originally you’d have a fine guitar and a keeper. I’ve done this. I don’t go for lots of guitars, I buy quality and own a few. I’ve learned the hard way that chasing new guitars is futile and very expensive.

    I'm a professional guitarist who's played festivals, been playing professionally for decades and have a diploma from music college in guitar playing. They are not just for beginners. I own high end guitars as well and the difference between some of the more expensive HB models and the 'authentic thing' is minimal many times. The biggest problem is people who can't play and think that an expensive guitar will make them sound good. It doesn't. As to the pickups it entirely depends on what sound you want. I've seen many people change out Roswells for expensive pickups and end up with a worse sound. If you want a different sound fair enough.

    @@lordcustard-smythe-smith9153 couldn't agree more. They are perfectly fine guitars, I've played much worse with big names on the headstock. My issue with the Roswell pickups is that they sound great for home use but no matter what I tried when using them live, they didn't quite poke through the mix like my other single coils. I found it hard, even with monitors on stage, to hear my guitar without EQing it to make an unpleasantly harsh tone. I think it's a softness in the upper mids that just means they can't sit well in a mix.
