Ha, I built my own blasting cabinet, made from scratch...from one of those plastic totes. It sounds really hockey, but its been I think a year or two, and still works great. The key is the regulator and plumbing to be high quality. I call it my tactical sanding cabinet lol, because its very light, and mobile.

I would like to see a video of a breakdown of different media types per application. Such as what you would use for a cylinder head as opposed to an engine bracket because you wouldn't want sand or glass media stuck in a cylinder head or cylinder wall.

That works really good. I have the same cabinet yet I’m using 4cfm 21 gallon tank so it’s just under what I need. It barley works for just a min or two at a time. I’m about to hook two air compressors together. Both 21 gallon and both around 3.8-4 cfm. I have the Y connector coming in the mail tomorrow. My question is, should I use those high flow fittings on just the inlet to the blaster gun or should everything have high flow fittings on it?

Question do your gun leak air without the trigger pulled? Also do your media clog around the inside the gun where the nozzle plug in?

I have the same blaster, best time saver with a cyclone separator and shop vac . What size is your shop vac? Mine is 6.5 hp way tomorrow big the gloves go straight out when in use ,I want to get a smaller vac just for it and was wondering the size you use . Thanks

You know, I can't think of any tool that's gets more use than an air compressor. I would suggest to anyone, invest your money in a large compressor. You won't regret it. Mine I bought a long time ago and it was pricey. 80 gallon upright with a 5 hp electric motor and a two stage compressor. 17 CFM @ 100 psi & 15 CFM @ 175 psi. I change the compressor oil yearly and I installed an automatic air drain valve on the bottom of the tank. I got the valve from Amazon and it works great. 110vac coil 1/2" NPT . It has two dials, one for interval (.5 -45 min) & duration (1-10 sec). You use shop air for everything. Don't cheap out.

What make/model is your compressor? I am currently in the market for one and can't quite decide. The compressor is the one thing in my setup I don't want to save money on.

Note that a single stage compressor puts out more CFM than a 2 stage compressor of the same HP. The two stage just results in higher pressure. I have a 5 HP Ingersoll Rand single stage that’s rated 18.1 @ 90 PSI (max pressure 135). Their two stage 5 HP is rated at only 14.3 (max pressure 175). That makes a noticeable difference when running a die grinder.

I'm interested in doing a compressor like that as well. Was it difficult to find a motor and compressor to work with the tank or will any set up work with a tank like that? I don't know anything about it, so I was wondering how to go about doing it. Another great video. I'm looking forward to the next

The motor was the original one that came with the tank and I picked up a compressor that was the same hp as the motor. You just have to make sure you get the correct motor pulley so that it will spin the compressor at the correct rpm. As far as the tank goes, that won’t matter. Just make sure you have a pressure shutoff switch or you risk over pressurizing the tank.

Do you have a video where you set up that new tank? I found a great deal on a large tank but I don’t know what size compressor I need to add to it like yours. It just comes with the tank. Lou

I live in a apartment and was thinking of getting a 8 gallon that runs 4.0 CFM at 90 psi. I only want to use it to etch glass for glass chipping. Any opinions on it really appreciate any feedback

I would highly suggest wearing rubber gloves after taking down to substrate. The oil from your hands will leave spots and cause paint or cerakote to not adhere as it should.

I really like your setup. Can you fit a 15” or 16” rim in that cabinet?

Door opening is 20” W x 9.5” H so you shouldn’t have a problem fitting a 15”-16” wheel. Hope that helps.

I saw a KZread video where he used pop rivets instead of those 200 bolts and nuts made sense to me.

My cabinet does NOT push that kind of media at what you're doing in this vid and I can't figure out why. I did the mod to siphon from the bottom and reroute up top but mine simply doesn't push that amount of media even at 90psi?!

I’m using all high flow npt fittings. Maybe that helps? How much cfm is your compressor putting out?

@@projectkarr After watching 100 vids, I went with 3/4 hose, HF McGraw 20 gal 1.6 HP @4.0 SCFM. I’ve changed nozzle tips and the larger ‘holed’ one seems to perform better but again, NOwhere near what you showed. I’ve tried running pressure anywhere from 60-120psi and just can’t figure out the limitation. Finally, I did go with the hi-flow fittings, but just don’t see the benefit at large. Thoughts?

@@AXNJXN1 around 90psi, at 4scfm you may be dropping pressure too fast. I was originally using a craftsman 20 gal with 4scfm and it would work great for about 30 seconds and then the flow would get much lighter.

@@projectkarr you ARE correct. After that 30 seconds, my compressor is depleted. I've adjusted my external metering valve down at the source pickup but it's just not dialing it like what you show. I am running coal slag and I wonder if that too is playing with what I'm seeing vs. glass bead.

How loud it that 60 gallon compressor?

I don’t have a decibel reader to tell for sure, but it is substantially quieter than my oilless craftsman 1.5hp compressor.

If you were to go to Lowes and spend about $30 and a hour or two, you could make a metering valve. You can save literally 50% of your time sandblasting. You will say, "why in the hell did I not do this sooner" it is like having sex for the first time all over again.

i have done all of the so called you tube upgrades and cant get mine to work. the hose fills up with media, but nothing out of the gun. any suggestions?

Vaccum set up should be connected to back of cabinet, but the side. Rear port has a baffle over it so all the media doesn’t get si led out. Watch Rays blast upgrade videos
