Halloween (1978), Halloween II (1981) and Halloween H20 are my favorites. I didn't like the 2018 version but I was pleasantly surprised by Halloween Kills.

I have revised my Halloween list from best to worst= Halloween '78 Halloween 2 Halloween 4 Halloween 5 Halloween 6 Halloween 3 Halloween H20/Halloween 2018 Halloween Resurrection/Halloween Kills RZ Halloween/RZ Halloween 2 I don't hate Halloween Kills, but I don't care too much for the storyline, certain characters and definitely the acting. I do prefer it over the Rob Zombie movies though.

As a 70 s 80 s kid , I guess you know my favourite 🎃

Just wanna add that at the 8:01 mark, I too, absolutely love that guitar string sound throughout the movie

I'll be honest, I think the 1978 film is better, because 2018 kinda retreads everything, but I'll keep going back to that one because I'm there for the kills.

Can totally see why!

Personally, I didn’t think the representation of Laurie’s trauma in Halloween (2018) was any more or less realistic than that of H20. I felt that both representations were equally valid. You have a more extreme reaction to trauma in 2018 where the victim is in full fight mode 24/7. In H20, the victim is in full flight mode, using every method imaginable (moving across country, faking death, alcoholism) to run away from and white knuckle her trauma. I personally related to this depiction more as it was more similar to how I dealt with my own trauma in the past, but again, I didn’t think it was better or worse than its successor. Different people deal with trauma differently etc etc

Old man from the 80s here, and glad to be one of the 6.66 as this is an excellent breakdown of the two movies 78 is a masterpiece and dang if 2018 didn't get really close for me as I've got it #2 overall. I do agree with your take on JJC I think he has surpassed Nick Castle as the definitive Michael especially with his performance in Kills Cannot wait for Ends Keep up the excellent work

Laurie is the new Loomis while Allyson is the new Laurie of this trilogy. Before Kills came out, H18 was my favorite sequel, now it’s my 2nd favorite sequel

Kills was great. I have no idea why it got so many bad reviews.

Great video as always. These films are much easier to compare to me. They fit nicely together just like H78 and H81. So it's obviously my preferred timeline. But Season of the witch and H81 stay on my list also. All 6 films feel like an extension to the original in numerous ways. Atmosphere, score, sound design, lighting, Michael ect. The other 7, I know they have there fans, but they suck. Michael looks like one of the three stooges in all of them. So for H18 and Kills I really appreciate the hard work to make the films feel like they belong with 78. Cause I can't say that about half the franchise.(H4 to RZ Halloweens)

Nick, Dick W., James Jude & George are my faves.

Vicky was my favorite character in 2018. 😭 after the Strode women of course.

Great breakdown as usual. I think 1978 Halloween is great because of how streamlined it is. But 2018 Halloween is a complete mess, character and story wise. All the supporting characters exist simply for exposition and plot conveniences, pretty much a sin of screenwriting 101. It’s still an entertaining mess though lol

to me Halloween 2018 is better but we still need a reboot with the right director to make it scarier then the first one

I'm Kind Of In Between On This Halloween Comparison Compared To Rob Zombie's Because Both Films We're Done So Equally Well For Several Different Reasons. I Love Both Films Equally. I Honestly Can't Decide Which Film I Personally Prefer.

halloween 2018 is great. My second favorite of the franchise

I was 24 when Halloween 2018 came out and went and seen it it the theater never did make it to the theater to see kills though

I like both films, I think the original is a classic and the 2018 one is a fantastic modern continuation

I love them both.

Michael Myers, the senior citizen serial killer. 😄 I haven't heard much about the trivia before. Very interesting. This one's notable for ignoring all of the silly conspiracy threads and theories of the many sequels, instead going back to basics. There are problems, like boring youthful characters, random unnecessary humor and wonky writing at times. The director said that the first cut of the film was two hours and fifteen minutes long, with the fat of the film and entire scenes cut for pacing and length. That amazes me, as this 1 hour and 46-minute film felt like it lasted for 3 hours. There are whole characters introduced, made to feel like they'll have something to do and then discarded. You could honestly get rid of Laurie's granddaughter, friends, the high school dance, her walk home and still have the same basic story. The only reason she's in there is so that we have young babysitters for Myers to kill. We learn nothing about her other than she's strong willed, smart and has horrible taste in men. There's no reason to root for her or hope that she survives. And even worse, her mother is presented as such a shrill that I almost want to see her pay for the way she has shut Laurie out of her life. What makes the first two Halloween films work, is the atmosphere - from the first frame, you realize that something unstoppable is coming after Laurie Strode. The second film just amps up the pace and makes The Shape into an inhuman force that cannot be stopped. In this film, he's just there. At no point did I feel tension from him or worry for the people he has come to kill. Things just happen. There doesn't seem to be a moment in it that points to what makes Michael Myers special. I can name several from the original, such as the moment where he watches Bob after he kills him or slowly rises up after we're sure Laurie has killed him. And the end, where his body is just suddenly gone, is the stuff of nightmares. Early in the new version, Vicky's boyfriend Dave echoes the voice of millennials, saying that Myers' five murders aren't such a big deal anymore in the grand scheme of things. Does Myers fail to do one remarkable thing or elicit one moment of fright? Anyway, I'm ranting. lol Ultimately, this is not altogether bad, but I found it hardly inspired. Thanks for sharing.

You have a really Beuatiful voice, 1978 I like it cause how well Donald Pleasence played Dr. Loomis he knew Michael than anyone but 2018 was focus of Michael and Laurie but Soundtrack of 2018 give me goosebumps

In the original Halloween Laurie was still a teen in high school being stalked by her psychopathic brother, but in the Halloween from 2018 she's a mother and also a grandmother too and she's still being stalked by her brother.

I do think there should be a comparison between H20 and 2018 since both of those are the aftermath of the original. There are some places where that movie, in my opinion, shines brighter. If you could combine the best of both, that would be the perfect Halloween movie. I think I'm in the minority that thinks that the brother storyline gives this more depth. I get that John Carpenter never wanted it, but it puts more things on the line and the stakes are higher. A Halloween binge is what I am planning on for Halloween this Sunday of 78, 2018 and Kills to watch them together.

Loving this videos OMG OMG . Again , I’m agreeing so much with pretty much everything you said . I think the homenajes to the OG are on point and now after watching HK , H2018 is more special . Laurie is definitely one of the best final girls ever ( maybe no more than sidney ) but that’s because scream is a much more organised franchise. Allyson is such a great modern final girl and unpopular opinion : I personally loved the journalist characters because it’s thanks to them that we go that close to Michael at the Centre. I just wissssh they wouldn’t have named Laurie’s daughter ‘Karen’ but I guess back in 2018 was not a meme so we didn’t care LOL Alsooo , after this , I don’t know why but I’m super curious about scream 1996 vs scream 2011

I always prefer the original when it comes to horror movies, but the cast in 2018/kills is just superb, James jude Courtney is my 2nd favourite Michael myers and you can't help just get lost whilst watching them. Blumhouse are doing an amazing job

Halloween 2018 is more superior to the 1978 original. The only downside is that my favorite character Vicky (Virginia Gardner) got killed by the Shape. If it weren't for Vicky's death, she would have joined Allison (my second favorite character), Karen and Laurie to battle Michael Myers (The Shape) and she could have been in Halloween Kills and Ends, but sadly, that's not the case. I'm still excited for Halloween Ends and Scream 5.

2018 had a better soundtrack, better Michael and way better kills imo. If only we didn't get sartain in exchange for Loomis 😔👎
