Hailey Van Lith Is Leaving LSU After Just One Season...

Спорт

Following LSU’s loss to Iowa in the elite 8, where she was repeatedly cooked by Ciatlin Clark and clowned online, Hailey Van Lith is leaving LSU. She has re-entered the transfer portal after just one season in Baton Rouge. There were many questions about what her next move would be, but a lot of it was focused on either going pro or returning to LSU. Leaving comes as somewhat of a surprise. But it is the right move for her career. She was in the completely wrong role at LSU and it was shown over the course of the season. In her last season at Louisville HVL averaged 20 points per game and was named all-ACC. But this year at Louisville, her scoring dropped to 11.5 per game, and her shots dropped from 17 at Louisville to just 10 at LSU. She couldn’t perform with so much talent around her, and it often just left her standing around feeling out of place. Her field goal percentage dropped to just 38%. She’s best as the focal point of an offense, and that just wasn’t gonna happen at LSU. If she wants to have a career in the WNBA, then she honestly needed to transfer to recoup the perception of her game. She was viewed as the top transfer in the country last season, and I’m not sure that will be the case this year. However, a lot of the negative discussion surrounding her defense on Caitlin Clark is unfair. She often had a hand in her face, and the shots being made by Clark were of a very high degree of difficulty. The decision not to throw a longer defender like Flau’jae Johnson or even a double at Clark falls on Kim Mulkey, not Van Lith. She needs to find somewhere where she can be the main option, and that seems to be the plan. Now let’s take a deeper look at her decision to flee the Bayou.
Think about subbing, I'm on the road to 14k!!!

She should have stayed at Louisville and she was a joy to watch. She wasn't the same player at LSU as she was at Louisville. The transfer portal is killing sports.

I watched a couple of games when she was at Louisville, and it looked to me like the other players rarely passed her the ball, and when they did, Hailey would go one on one.

Agreed.. NIL and the portal will be the death of college sports. There is really no difference between college and the pros now and that was what made college more special.. sports betting becoming more and more legal by the year is also ruining anything that is bet on as the fix is in now.. officiating has never been as bad as it’s been the last 2-3 years now and it’s like they’re not even remotely bothered about trying to hide it either. I just.. don’t really care about sports anymore in their present state. Michigan got away with flat out cheating this year (as they have been for years now).. but it was exposed and right out in the open and nothing really came of it.

Has LVL gained weight? Honest question, and I'm not criticizing her. I only watched her sparingly when she was at Louisville, but it seems to me like she is more muscular now, especially in the legs, and she looks slower than in the past, maybe because of that. When she was at Louisville I thought she was pretty quick, but since being at LSU, she seems slow. Caitlin certainly had no trouble leaving her in the dust with a confused look on her face. To be fair, Caitlin has done that to about everyone that tried to guard her. Conditioning clearly isn't a priority for LSU, so maybe that is an element too.

@@flashgunshop5856 She was fighting too hard in some cases, going over when she should have gone under on DHO's for example. Haily was also driving Clark into open lanes instead of into help. You're right about Reese, unless it was Mulkey's PLAN to have Haily at 5'7 on the much bigger Clark, and everyone else play in drop coverage and let Clark do what she does on the perimeter. It was a poor defensive plan all around. I blame the coach, who is a bit of a head case IMO.

I would imagine she transferred to LSU to contend for a title and she may feel like they will be in a rebuilding phase next year. Then who knows what's taken place behind the scenes...she was put in a new role with LSU being her first time running the point when she's been a 2 guard most of her career (that's a whole new look and 1 year isn't long enough to get the experience she needs if that's the position she'll more than likely play in a professional capacity rather the W or overseas). My thoughts only🤷🏾‍♂️

If she can't play point guard effectively (and her time at LSU seemed to show she can't), is she really going to go to the WNBA at 5'7" and be a scorer? I think of so many short scorers at the Men's college level that never even got drafted by the NBA or if they did, they were benchwarmers. I am just asking.

Clark didn't expose HVL that was done when they were in the first few games playing practice teams in the beginning of the season. It was a style contrast that HVL knew would not work with her game coming out of high school but she sat in her living room during the championship and thought she could run that team. I blame her and coach Mulkey for not returning her to her natural position after the conference playoffs. She wanted to play the point guard and become a facilitator to show the pros her versatility. She didn't have it on offense or defense. Then after she screwed up now she wanna run off. She had no business going to LSU after not going to play for Mulkey out of high school. She didn't help their chances to repeat she actually hurt them. She was no Alexis Morris and had she not gone to LSU Makila Williams would have been the point guard or KP who I believe left over favoritism.

A lot of folks are saying that Kim Mulkey should've put Johnson or Reese on Clark, but the problem with that is Johnson would've played better defense, but would've fouled out, thus taking away from LSU'S offense. Reese guarding Clark would take away from LSU'S ability to dominate the defensive and offensive boards. Pick your poison, Clark is the most difficult person to game plan for

Clark is version of Steph Curry which it will be hard for anybody to guard her. The coach has to come up with an idea to throw her off her game like double team her but that will be hard to if she's taller. She's just a good Ole ball player it reminds me of Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. Yes, I'm a black woman saying this Clark is that good. I hope team win😊❤

HVL has sort of reached her limit. She isn't good enough to make a WNBA roster, especially with the way they just cut draft picks. Small, slow footed, will never be a good defender. She isn't a point guard, she doesn't have any useful skills for the position. She is a little scorer who isn't gonna translate at the pro level. The spotlight is on because of who cooked her, but she's been useless on defense every LSU game I've watched. Which is only 6 games, but it's enough to see a trend.

I don't blame her for leaving, but she wasn't the only one being held back. Mikaylah Williams could have also had an incredible freshman season, but if she makes a few mistakes, then she gets taken out of the game. If Mikaylah was allowed to take as many shots as the other elite freshman around the country, she could have put up bigger numbers.
