This better than the NBA. I see a bunch of players giving max effort on “both”sides of the court. This is real b-ball. Real defense being played. No easy shots, most everything contested, not many uncontested runs to the cup like we been seeing for 10 years in the NBA. I think found my b-ball fix again. Great game ladies.

@@upfulsoul826 notice the elements of b-ball I mentioned that are much better than the NBA. In the last 10 years or so, a softness and entitlement has overtaken the NBA. Not much defense played, minimal effort on D from superstars, just stat padding with 3’s and easy dunks since the land is now wide open and you can’t touch the player with the ball. Also, they allow walking, carrying, offensive fouling, flopping, constant crying to refs etc. That is not basketball. NBA has more talented players from 3 pt shooting perspective but they lack the spirit and fundamentals that make b-ball enjoyable. The woman’s college b-ball I just watched has a lot of what the NBA lost about 10 years ago or so. It’s unwatchable for true b-ball fans. It’s a mockery of what the greats played hence why I said the women’s game I just watched tonight has the elements of real b-ball that’s missing and they are more than talented enough to entertain us, even if though they are not as athletic as the guys. The heart and grit I saw tonight was refreshing. I stand by what I said.

Edwards was literally moving throughout that part. She took another step because Marshall was out of her normal screen's reach and you can see her right leg and left knee both leaning to her left towards Marshall. I think she even dragged or slid her right foot a bit? Well the point is that it was clearly an illegal moving screen (do not press pause button during slow motion replay cuz it will really look like she did not move lol 😂). Adding to that was her slightly raised and reached out elbow that gave a little push to the incoming Marshall. Edwards ran into Marshall not the other way around. Given the difference in physical build, the effect of the slight collision to the smaller and lighter Marshall was quite normal. It was not a bad call, just a wrong timing one for a lot of people because many viewers want to witness an exhilarating, wild and fantastic finish on that great stage. Stop blaming and hating just for the sake of having something to say. It's not like the call happened out of nowhere without any basis. It was arguable but still acceptable. Take in the result and move on. We have one more great game coming up next. Well if Iowa wants to prove they deserved that victory then all they have to do is convincingly win over UNDEFEATED SC in the finals. 👋✌👍🤔😇

@@AkronJosh- Josh the problem with the “rules are rules” argument is that there are probably 200 fouls in any given game, and no referee has yet called a perfect game. Add to that the fact that a lot of those calls are judgment calls that rely on splitting hairs to defend them. And, basketball is not a static environment like gymnastics or figure skating where you are being judged on technical form … basketball is jazz, improvisation, against a live opponent. Watch any game, men’s or women’s, college or NBA, and you will see players constantly hedging on screens, shuffling their feet, moving around. It’s like the 3 step travel in the NBA, or palming the ball while dribbling … it’s not really called anymore. So for a referee to decide that that moment is the time to enforce the old school rulebook and focus on the technical execution of fundamentals is just wrong. This is not the skills competition at all-star weekend. Nobody is watching to see if the ref knows his rulebook. Everyone is the building wants to see the shot go up, make or miss. And that’s the irony of it. The foul didn’t give UConn any advantage … Stuelke had Paige pretty well defended, and that sideline was pretty congested. It would have been a tough shot regardless … so just let it play out.

@@mimisalazar3133 Hopefully better than last years championship. I remember Clark and Paige Bueckers had all that hype coming in to the NCAA as freshman, they matched up that season and even though Iowa lost and UConn ended up losing the title to SC, they were talking about the possibility of Paige going 2-time champ, but instead, it's Caitlin Clark who ends up becoming the most watched. I still prefer watching Paige because of her ball handling and pretty midrange jumper, but Clark is just so unguardable at this point. Paige had a pretty average shooting night and she had to have a perfect shooting night to win it and they didn't do it.

...and right before the Iowa turnover and Muhl 3 (:55ish on the clock?), Steulke blatantly moved a screen on their inbounds and no call. My point isn't that the Edwards' foul was wrong - at least by letter of law, her feet were wide and she did lean, but right when you think the officials are letting them play a ref inserts themselves into the game on such a benign call . Marshall deserves credit (and I mean that as a compliment) selling that little bounce off to me was the play of the game - but moving screens were frequent on both sides, and rare was the call. Nudges under the basket (Affolter forearm pushing Muhle in the back for the rebound off Clarke's miss at the end), rare was the call. Reach-ins on both sides, rare was the call. Travel on both sides (KK 3-step bucket right before the time out), rare was the call. Then a meaningless leaning screen (cuz the defender got around it just fine), and 'fweet'! Unless it's blatant stay outta the way and let the play evolve. The outcome may or may not change, I think Iowa was just a little better equipped to take it, but at least let the players end the game. urrgg. To me, tho', the game was decided in the third Q

Sad for these girls who just wanna play and have fun. Hello, I've watched it again as it has become a hot topic. You can't really see it much from the replay so it's better to just rewind it back to the moment prior the call with the above half court view and play in slow motion. I mean it is clear that Edwards practically almost slid/moved laterally towards Marshall while reaching out her elbow a bit so it really was an illegal screen. I'm sure some are saying that Iowa also does a few illegal screens here and there but even if they did, then they did it more discreetly. The illegal screen here was done so blatantly during the most crucial part of the game that the ref had to call it. It' s not like Iowa asked her to do it. Maybe she thought that like most games usually, the ref will just let it slide and let them play out the last few seconds. Sadly, that did not happen today. Anyways, the refs can never please everyone, some people will always question their calls. If it was the other way around and the same call happened in favor of the other team, then I'm sure that will also be a controversial issue. It was already a done game and there is nothing we can do so it is better to just drop the issue and move on. Don't ruin the mood anymore for the upcoming finals. We can just hope that everyone will be more satisfied with the calls for the next game. :) Stay safe!

The refs don't see the game in slow-mo. That foul wouldn't be called in the NBA.

@@upfulsoul826 Well, they use replay for that but I am not sure if they are checking every camera angle during replays. Yup, that certainly won't be called in the NBA so I guess Iowa is lucky that they are not playing in the NBA league with NBA refs right? The Pro league obviously has higher level of physical tolerance in game calling. :) Honestly I also wanted to see if that shot will go in with Stuelke as her defender left or will they get the OB and take the follow-up shot. If they do score that 3, will Iowa be able to take one last shot during the time left. Man, that would be a wild ending that we won't be able to see haha.

It was a good call. She wasn't set and and she moved into the Iowa player and shoved her. You think it's the refs calling it, but imagine if Uconn had scored on that pick we'd be saying the same thing the other way.

I reviewed that 5x in slow motion and Edward's feet and hips were set. I don't see the elbow coming out on the slow motion view. She literally crosses her arms to ensure she doesn't get called for it. Looks to me like Gabby run into her and then bounced or flopped away. Edwards has 30-50 lbs on here....and that's what happens. Shouldn't have been called a foul, and not with 3 seconds left. It was more a flop than foul.

I know that’s a controversial call, but it was clear as day that she was setting a moving screen which is an offensive foul. 10:31 Just watch how she moves or slides laterally and basically shoved Marshall. If you wanna set a screen like that, you have to be discreet. Just watch the Warriors lol. They be setting moving screens all the time and gets away with it because they do it lowkey. What she should have done is to plant that right foot and set the screen. She could move her upper body and her left foot to block Marshall but her right foot MUST be anchored. Most of the time, defense in basketball is also about the footwork. Setting the screen and taking a charge could be a defensive or offensive foul depending on whether you slid that foot a couple of inches or keeping that pivot anchored.

@TheKopsfanclub Yeah big mistakes. I think they were always trying to find Bueckers, but she's not that same explosiveness we saw in her in her sophomore and junior year because of the injuries. I said it to a friend of mine a while back, actually after Iowa lost to UConn in the Sweet 16 in 2021, I said "Watch, now after this season Bueckers is going to get the injury bug and the rest of the team is going to go off in her place." I wasn't wrong.

a foul is a foul. that was obviously a foul. if the players want the refs to 'let them play' the players have to play by the rules. otherwise, at what point do you not call obvious fouls .. with 1 min to go? a quarter to go? when?

It was a terrible play by Edwards and definitely a foul. It was NOT a lean.....it was way more blatant than a lean. South Carolina should win by double digits unless clarke makes better decisions on her shots. She will never be allowed so many ill-advised shots in the WNBA, no matter how good of a run she has at times

Women's college basketball in the last few years has taken monster steps forward in competitiveness. Not that long ago we would end up with four one seeds in the final four. The final will really be interesting. Will S Carolina do a UCONN and finish undefeated? Will Iowa finally finish a championship run?
