GY6 50 Scooter Crankshaft Oil Seal Removal & Install With Lisle Puller

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Removal and installation of a 139QMB four-stroke scooter's CVT side crank seal with the Lisle 58430 shaft style puller. The puller was about $15, and worth every penny IMO. It won't do all seals on scoots because of space limitations, but it saves a lot of time/effort on the ones it can pull.
The installation is done with PVC pipe.

    Impact wrench is the easy way. Otherwise you need a tool to hold the variator or you can get a spanner tool that will hold the flywheel while you remove the variator nut.

  • @49ccscoot

    @49ccscoot

    I just use the impact to remove the nut. To reinstall you either need a torque stick to limit torque applied or you can choose one of those other methods of stopping the crank from turning and torque it down with a torque wrench or ratchet. Using the impact to tighten it without limiting output will strip the nut and crank eventually with any good (powerful) impact.

  • @aznative_

    @aznative_

    There's a very simple trick to getting the variator nut off if you either do not have an impact wrench or it is too tight even with an impact wrench. You can stuff a 1/8 inch nylon rope down the spark plug hole about 6 feet in length obviously make sure you have plenty of rope still hanging out of the engine. Then crank the variator nut and the Piston will not be able to go to TDC top dead center. it will stop and you can then easily remove the nut with any socket wrench. Feed the rope into the spark plug hole with a wire hanger it helps to sharpen it to a point.

    Are you sure it's actually getting fuel to the engine from the carb? See if the plug is wet after trying to start it (normal method, not adding gas in the engine). If the plug isn't wet, you probably have a carb issue.

  • @49ccscoot

    @49ccscoot

    9 жыл бұрын

    Maybe it's actually too rich and flooding? If the choke doesn't help it start you can try the opposite effect and hold the throttle wide open so it gets more air. Gotta be careful doing that though and make sure the wheel is off the ground so it can't take off if it does start up. It's been quite a while since I worked with one of those engines, but I bought a Walbro carb from Discount Dave's Motors (DDM) that had a low and high speed adjustment and it worked quite well for me. The fuel spraying out of the carb a little is normal for these and doesn't necessarily mean there's an issue. They don't do a great job of controlling fuel.

    How did you remove the sprocket on the crankshaft? Does it come off with force pulling it off? Do you have to place something behind it and wedge it off?

  • @49ccscoot

    It's behind the seal. You don't have to remove it to replace the seal. If you are doing something else and must remove it, then you need a gear puller and you need to make sure you're able to put the gear back on exactly how it came off.

    I'm not sure what the purpose of that is. I've never had one leak. I'd guess you'd need to use an epoxy like JB Weld to seal it off. It would need to be thoroughly cleaned of any oil residue first.

    Hey I have a problem on my Taotao 50 a . I have 2800kms on it now and its still all stock. When its cold it will start up and run about a min and shut off then its a hard start get up to 10-15mph then dies down and I let off the throddle and it dies. I've tried partial as well as full throddle and its the same. Then I start it again and goes on but only up to about 30mph as before I was rolling 40-45mph. Now I can feel it surging. Do you think it could be a carb or valve problem?

  • @49ccscoot

    @49ccscoot

    10 жыл бұрын

    Try setting the valves. It's a good time at that many miles to check them anyway. You may have a fuel issue. Check your fuel lines and filter. Replace if needed. If it's the stock petcock that could be failing. Could try bypassing it and see if it improves. Wouldn't hurt to clean the carb, especially if it's sat and you're getting it out for spring or something. In that case drain the old fuel too.

  • @49ccscoot

    @49ccscoot

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@RALYC_GAMING Sounds like you need to figure out the coolant issue first. Find out where it's going. Low coolant levels will cause it to overheat. Could be leaking out external to the engine... on the ground. Could be leaking into the combustion chamber and being burned. If it's a lot, you'll see steam in the exhaust, but a slow leak may not show any visible signs. First thing is just to make sure there are no obvious leaks, which it sounds like you were trying when you found the oil leak. You can do cooling system pressure tests, where you apply pressure to the system and see if it holds or being pressurized can help you figure out where a leak is that you may not otherwise see or be able to pinpoint.

    Install is the same. If the tool won't fit (haven't had that seal go bad yet) you may still be able to get it in there to hook behind the seal and then pull it straight out. Sometimes a curved, bent pick will work, but you have to be careful not to damage the sealing surface on the crank. You can use a small screw in a seal and pull that way as well.

    I've used the 19.8x30x7 and some other sizes. I ended up back to stock sized seals. It seems that any favorable results are not so repeatable and I was having as good or better luck with the stock size. I can use the same seal and one will last me a month or two without really leaking and another will start dripping in a ride or two. I'm still a bit lost on this myself and in my case I was thinking either the case or crank had to be to blame. For you, it sounds like the crank because the cases have been used before with good results. Could be a side effect though, like crankcase pressure. Make sure no crank vents are clogged and no hoses get pinched.

    marion ramirez hi again, just to let you know the updates about the bad seals. i cleaned again the crankshaft with alcohol and this time i also used something similar to the fiber u used to clean the silicone , doing a soft cleaning not too much then put the darn seal back with silicone , let it cure 24 hrs. and ride it...... nothing happened , not a single leak...i removed the 1500 con spring (installed just to stress the thing waiting to fail) and put the 1000 i like back. worked really nice, BUT now the band gave me problems and also noticed the clutch bell changed color (never before) seems the band was slipping and also for some reason found a little bit of oil/grease later found came from the clutch 's inner part , seals were lose when the clutch plates open. so changed the clutch and band and it is working nice again...BUT NOW i took a test ride using new koso sliders 8g. after doing 45-46 for 4th time i heard something broke inside , when i walked back home opened the darn thing and found variator guides were broken and variator aluminum guides eaten by the var plate. ...koso var was almost brand new 3 months barely used. i had a cheap stock var for a year but this new issue never happened before....oo h the plastic guides dissipated !......
