It always blows my mind how the weather can go from too cold to sleep in a heated tent, to so warm you go sleeveless. It's hard to pack light for trips like that. I hope you had fun. 😀

It's been four years since we were at Gulf Wars and videos make me so excited to get back there some day! Thank you for the Vince cameo, and a snippet of one of my favourite bardic songs (Come and be Welcome, written by a friend no less!), and the dye area was my happy place when we were there. So many good memories! It's a long drive from Ealdormere, and totally worth it.

It is amazing how the temperature drops in the southern states at night. My first big camp event was War of the Wings which is held in the middle of October. Its in the foothills of NC and we were brand new. I was amazed at the amount of stuff people brought from home. I mean people where pulling trailers, the roofs on vehicles were full. The day time was pleasant and at times warm. When the sun went down it was like the north pole. We were not prepared but at the same time it was the most fun one could have around a campfire.

Oh totally! I know there are SCA events in Drachenwald (Europe) but they tend to be spread out and not always super disability accessible either. If, for whatever reason, you DO find yourself over here in Ansteorra, I’d love to take you to an event and show you a great time.

While I really enjoy your sewing content, I am fascinated by your camping set up, and that of the others, for this event. Would you possibly make a video about this? Where do you all get your tents? And you have a bed!! How does it work to put up/takedown? Your shelf with clothes rod… fascinating! How much weight does it hold? … and I have a ton of other questions. I’ve never been to an SCA event and this video was great to see what it is like. Thank you!

In fairness, this whole set up is So Much that we only do it a couple times a year. I’m thinking that I should maybe do a live Q&A with my partner where we take everyone’s questions about the camping setup and talk about that more in depth.

I adore your straw hat. I must say that I was very surprised. This was not what I envisioned a SCA event to look like. Not really sure what I envisioned... It seemed more chill and festival-like than I envisioned. Most surprised am I at your tent. It so HUGE! How do you have such a complex camping set up with a tent where you can stand, a proper bed and actual hanging space for clothes? (And a heater?) Is that a common set up at SCA-events? Or when camping in US in general? It felt very fancy to me. It was very intriguing to come along with you on the vlog and get a glimpse of what such a event is like.

Thank you! I found it on amazon (I can toss a link up in the description) and steamed the flat crown into a round shape. We only break out this whole camping kit for wars because it’s Too Much for shorter events. It’s 16’x16’ (4.9m square), and the whole thing takes about a day to set up and half a day to break down. Usually we day-trip, hotel, or camp in a mundane tent. It’s INCREDIBLY fancy and bougie, and we only do it a couple times a year.

This is the best "walk-through" of an entire event I've ever seen! I love the arrival through leaving, showing the settling in. And you touched on all the fun things - you have such a calm, lovely voice. I love that you just share the event itself and your place in it without talking to the camera!!! Your choice of music really adds to the ambiance - (some other videos add crazy modern music) I've only done day events, but am dying to do the camping!

It always amuses me greatly to see the historical blending in your events. Here, historical events are mostly divided cleanly into Viking or Medieval, and you do *not* blend the two. You would never see lances or knights or plate-armor at a viking fair - and you’d never see Viking garb at a medieval fair. (I do hope my quite local viking market happens this year, though.) :D

In the UK we have the Military Oddessy, where you'll find Land Girls camped next to a Roman Legion. 😄 At the shows I attend you will also frequently find what would (wrongly) be called Vikings, (actually Norsemen) fighting alongside or against Mediaeval fighters. I am the Captain of a group which portrays a noble Italian household. Our Man at Arms is a Norseman, as it was a status symbol in Italy at the time 😁

The only hard and fast rule in SCA Corpora is “an attempt at pre-1600 dress.” So we get a ton of people with different eras and places. There are some groups within the SCA who have a smaller focus (ie: a household where their kit and furniture is 14th century, or Viking) but the events are very era/geography inclusive.
