I adore block printing. It's been too long since I've played with those tools. I like to attach my blocks (before I start carving) to a flat, stable surface like a painting MDF board. Wood glue can survive the washing. I'm drinking a manually ground Harar coffee. It was grown, picked and processed by a woman's collective in Kenya (the burlap bag made by a woman's collective in India). Hints of chocolate and blueberries. I _may_ have just spent too much on a manual Italian brass coffee grinder... I likely have family rights to heraldry for the Isle of Lewis, clans MacDonald, or McLeod in the Scottish Hebrides. No idea how to research that. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown

My heraldry passed just this month, so I'm still super excited about that (my garb chest is currently being painted to go obnoxiously well with my arms): Or, on a bend azure voided three cats passant sable. Obviously because of the many void kitties who have adopted my family.

I only had to design heraldry once for a game, and knowing nothing about it (and being limited to premade embroidered iron on patches) it ended up being a coat of arms style thing with a white stag and a black unicorn flanking a crowned heart. I'm always impressed and slightly mystified by all the intricacies of heraldry and the people who've made their own

Bran: "Co-star? Really...I am the star of anything I deign to show my tail in." I'm drinking Kama Sutra Chai mixed by a local tea place here called Market Tea. Lovely blend of spices with a hit of lavender. My heraldry would probably have a cat, music notes and, perhaps, a spindle all on an indigo blue. Nothing as beautiful and bold as that printed tunic made for your knight by his lady fair. It looks marvelous. What a wonderful gift for his special day. Cheering on vaccinations so things can start happening again. Thanks for sharing your project. Take care.

loving how that stamp dried, it pops a lot more than i thought it would at the start. For those who do not have handy gaudy wool, perhaps use pizza boxes under, or some other box cardboard that is large and semi sturdy. now i have to watch that neck lining bit again. I never remember to do that ahead of time, always fighting that fight the hard way. but in general i love making this kind of tunic, the satisfaction of the sleeve gusset and the cuffs and collar if you make one, never disappoints. Congrats to SO for the level up.

Cardboard would work okay, but be careful that your print doesn’t pick up the coronation lines from it as it starts to break down from the print pushing. You want a dense, untextured surface underneath with just a little give. So a fleece blanket you don’t mine sacrificing would also be good.

All green on a white background). I'm still trying to decide what badge I might want to use. Personally I like this as it is and would love to just use this as a badge, but since all these pieces don't touch.... *sigh*

Good heraldry! Nice and simple. I use a bunch of different scissors, it’s true. Some of them cut fabric really well (ginghers and guggenhein), some are easier on my hands (the spring loaded one and rotary cutter), and some have the period aesthetic. It mostly depends on which this is most important to me at the moment.

I’m very curious to know though if the chalk lines you used for placement effected the fabric paint or not. I’d love to use a similar method when I finally make a dress but print a boarder on the hem. I would most likely use wood or wood backed Lino to print with though. I'm boring, and drinking water as it's mid-afternoon in these parts. I haven't quite figured out what my heraldic symbol would be like, but it would most likely include a lark, a griffin passant (from my husband's family crest) and a crown (which can be found in the coats of arms of the city I was born in and the neighbouring city which has been my main home since I was 14 years old). Or then it would be a lark, a griffin and a bull, on a blue background.

The tunic turned out beautifully and it looks awesome on them! Currently drinking a Slurpee (cause it's hot and trying to cheer up one of my littles who missed a special year end thing at school cause she wasn't feeling well last nite) I have heraldry! My device is: Gyronny of twelve purpure and argent, six arrows in annulo points to center purpure. I also have two badges. I've got a Skjoldehamn hood in the planning stages that I'm going to put my device on the front of! I just need to rewash my fabric, dye a piece for the contrast colour and I could get started.

Familial heraldry isn't really a thing, historically. Individuals are granted arms, not families. The idea of "family coats off arms" that you see from stores in malls or at renaissance festivals is kind of a scam.

@@OpusElenae That depends on the country. In Nordic heraldry, quite a lot of the blazon was shared by the whole family, such as the black gryphon on red of the Sverker royal dynasty of Sweden. Families with arms also wore their heraldry on their cloaks, making for an impressive sight when a lot of people from politically dominant families were gathered, for example to a Thing.

I really want to make a heraldic cote at some point, but trying to find that just right blue fabric isn't as easy as I'd hoped. As for my badge, it's Fieldless, four butterflies in....I forget the exact way to describe it but basically it's four gold and black butterflies creating a plus shape, antenae facing outwards. I have a few items with my butterflies on them, and of course, Id love more. This technique is one Ive wanted to learn, but being a visual learner, I needed to 'see' it to really get the gist - reading instructions on how to do something just doesn't really work for me.
