    Tele vs. Strat Blindfold Shootout? Mix a few Strats and Teles, and play just the bridge and neck pickup sounds... that could be interesting.

    A blindfold shootout to find a Fender Strat with other guitars being PRS CE 24 (split), PRS Silver Sky, Fender Nashville Tele, and a G&L Fullerton Deluxe S or Charvel PRO-MOD DK22. Could be interesting to show the differences with them but hopefully it wouldn't be too easy.

    As usual the main takeaway is that we listen with our eyes!😬 Maybe a little easier to hear in the room but I could easily have believed three of them were Lesters. They all sounded awesome👌 Humbucker Fenders vs Gibsons next please!

    I've never been an LP fan, but I've been playing Ibanez for years. I had no idea which one was the Les Paul but I was sure I liked number 4 the most... big surprise :D

    The only one I got right is the Ibanez... I have played a cheap Cort made RG for over 15 years modded with a tone zone, air norton and original floyd. These pickups are Unmistakable.

    Guillaume is insane! Only guessed LP and Ibanez. Both are correct. As an Ibanez owner, the air norton & tone zone set does sound familiar. Have no clue on Jackson & Charvel though.

    Cool video. I was surprised at how similar they all sounded. The LP did have something to it; it was smalland almost instinctive. But it was the only one i was able to pick out; at the end I thought it may have been the Ibanez too. Maybe ear fatigue. So basically, all good guitars will have a little "something" that appeals to you or not. Be it the scoop, of the output, the fullness, etc. To me, the texture in the Les Paul tone gives it the "that's it" factor. You call it is "airy"... but yeah i guess it's that difference between water and soda. Between a Coffee with creamer, and a cappuccino...... hahaha

    Thanks great video. Hard to pick but for me the Charvel sounded best. So sweet sounding. The Jackson was my least favourite. Not a fan of that scooped sound.

  • @lemac3200

    Had them all correct. The LP is just clear identifiable in comparison. The Jackson has the typical scoop. The Ibanez is the most aggressive, because that is what they are designed for. The Charvel was a lucky guess.

    I don't know how he could guess the rest of the guitars (just lucky guesses based on the output level? So nothing to do with the guitars themselves?), but I think with the dirty tone, the LP was very easy to guess, because it's the only one without an FR style trem, and that just sounds different when you really dig in and play those staccato type things.

    I'm sorry, this was not that tough to tell them. The Les Paul sounds thicker, especially in the neck. So it had to be #2. #1 & 3 sounded very similar, so they had to be the Charvel and the Jackson, both had the same pickups. And then the Ibanez sounded different, hotter than the others, but not as thick as the Les Paul, so obviously #4.

    First one sounds strattish in the neck. Bridge is thicker still quite bright. I suspect it is one of the first two, probably the Charvel, because I expect the Jackson to sound chunkier. Fingers crossed...

    Norton is normally a bridge pickup, middle if the road between vintage and modern gain. The "air" makes it lower output but should still be thicker. Definitely I don't expect the third being a PAF like the other 3. I hold my stance 😎 edit: sorry, I meant "the fourth"

    I like the idea, but the execution needs to be adjusted. If we could hear some tone samples first to get a baseline, people might have a better chance. Being in the room makes all the difference, and trying to blindly pick them without any baseline reference is nearly impossible. Let us hear each one first before the blindfold test.

  • @mike42356

    @mike42356

    I view blindfolds as more of a trivia test, checking our own prior knowledge. The baseline is our experience with the gear, including previous videos we've watched. I could guess all of them (check my thread in the comments) and I listened to the video on a crappy bluetooth speaker! I think the trick is not to try too hard, make it for fun and let go with your feeling. One probably has to be in the right mood, I guess? It happened to me before to fail them all, only to relisten the blindfold shootout at a later time, when everything became obvious LOL. I could recognize I relistened to that particular video by the dislike reaction I have previously submitted 🤣

    @@mike42356 Here's the thing, a Seymour Duncan JB can sound vastly different when put in various guitars. If you think you can tell the difference by just listening to a single sound sample through whatever rig they happen to be using, your delusional.

    @@andrewbecker3700 oh, I have not accounted for the bridge pickups in this shootout at all, only the neck pickups 😇 I think there was too much gain and the sample too basic. I agree with you about the different responses some pickups can have in different guitars, but there is generally an explanation behind that behavior. Not claiming I know about the JB, because I have no experience with this one.
