Nathaniel Murphy is a force of nature. I always loved how humour was a big part of so many guitar players back in the 40s and 50s and you don’t see that anymore. There's videos of him playing mind blowing stuff. Not to mention the original comment isn't very factual bc Rick has this same expression with many guitarists honestly. I don't even think he was "blown away" at all. He had more reactions in other interviews like Animals as Leaders and Polyphia. He's always expressive like he was in this one. Guthrie would be no exception✌️

🎶 First I've heard this approach of "independence of feel" coined by the great solo jazz guitarist, Tuck Andres (of Tuck and Patti and uncle of Berklee alum, Saint Vincent) in the 80s. He also played walking bass in legato, as a bass player would. Then at the same time he played the top note melody, then added staccato comping like a keyboardist, and then a rhythm section percussion on the strings.

What a lovely interview , I first saw Nathaniel playing “ In My Life “ my favourite Beatles song by my favourite band , and along with watching the videos of Rick Beato at the age of 60 I have fallen back in love with music and learning to play guitar again , so thank you both very much for your time inspiration and a now happier life 😀👍🙏.

Stunning guitar playing. Fascinating. Rory Gallagher had such abilities in my opinion. A rare touch. Understated and lots and lots of practice and skill. Thank you Rick. Inspirational.

Just remember MrB, if you're feeling overawed, you can play the Kid Charlemagne solo to the note ⭐️ and that is impressive

I love Rick's channel. Literally 'just' youtube videos but the recording quality is straight up album quality. Murphy on that guitar, with that amp has got to be one of the most buttery sounds I've ever heard.

I have aware of Mr. Murphey for some time just happening to catch a demo he did for the CME and was instantly blown away. He really plays like no one else and he is so humble and humorous. He SO deserves to be highlighted.
