@@toastpoppin The difference is that that hasn’t been an element of Thor‘s character since his first appearance. Honestly she was the best character in the film. This was the first time where she actually naturally felt part of the team. She was still mean but you can tell she loves and cares for her found family. On the other hand I hated Gamora in this. I know infinity war complicated things but her character arc from the last few films just seems all for nothing now. I didn't care too much that she doesn't love peter anymore but that her and Nebula finally started to have a good sibling relationship just for them now to be distant again.

I can understand this movie not being for everybody. But, in the same way so many people hated Vol. 2 and love it after revisiting it years later, I think Vol. 3 will stand the test of time more than most MCU films because it has a voice. It’s bold, mature, creative, and emotionally powerful, and I think it’ll grow on people SO much more years from now.

But recently I’ve been so disappointed with Marvel movies that there was no hype for anything. Except Guardians 3. James Gunn really delivered here. I actually really like the villain in this, even when he was screaming every five seconds, because the portrayal was this person that a lot of people could get behind as a genius or a god because he was able to do things no one else possibly could, but in reality he was just a screaming whiny child who gets upset and breaks his toys when things don't go his way. Drax was literally screaming over sensitive nipples in gotg2. Gamora was pretty shouty and aggressive in gotg1 and she's the same here, which makes sense. Quill feels much more serious than in the last 2 movies with much more connection to the rest of the guards, here he really shows how connected they all are, not just to Gamora, but to the rest of the characters. The quarrels with Gamora weren't so much, as if that's his only theme here. Nebula went through a great development in the end, if you remember that she was actually the villain in the first movie, she feels great in this movie and with these characters. The characters were definitely okay and behaved quite appropriately to their character and story, there was much more of a nice family chemistry between them, more of an emotional connection. You highlighted individual possibly unfortunate jokes too much. But there were a lot of bad jokes in the second movie as well, many people I knew complained about Drax in past installments and Avengers movies, many complained about penis jokes that were repeated several times, about poop jokes about ugly Mantis, and so on. Don't try to pretend that the humor of past installments was no problem. The humor is still at the level of past parts. The theme with the new locations is interesting. But it seems too subjective, which is based on pure feeling and my own experience. I didn't get bored watching the new locations t and liked them for the most part. The movie was very beautiful. I can agree that the theme of destroying an entire planet was not given enough time. I disagree that the villain should have been less impulsive. When everything is according to plan I don't remember him yelling much. His insane obsession with his idea is quite consistent with the impulsiveness of his character and I liked many of the scenes with him.

You have to remember that a lot of this movie will be different because of the loss they had AND the one they’re current trying not to have most of the movie. Taking Gamora (OG gamora) and Rocket from the team will make the dynamic feel kinda off! Peter heavily interacts with rocket or gamora normally and now he’s having to start over with a gamora that doesn’t know he exists. It’s gonna be a different tone from just that alone. Not only that but a lot of the more clever jokes come from Rocket and star lord and obviously rocket is a bit… preoccupied and star lord is different because of all the losses he’s had in his life. It was a darker movie, year, but still a really good one. All three guardians movies are good to their own degree and that’s more then I can say for most of the marvel movies.

I personally felt Vol. 3 was a lot closer to the balance in the first movie, and the comedic bits, while still bits that play out a bit longer than necessary, went by a lot faster than the Taserface and Groot misunderstanding what he's being told jokes. would definitely love to see an NC retrospective on them someday.

I just saw it and for me, Rocket's backstory was everything. It was almost like a body horror movie and an emotional rollercoaster but I felt like it had a great payoff in the end. I don't care much for Marvel movies, or even Guardians of the Galaxy that much, although I usually have more faith in GOTG when it comes to Marvel. Anyway I went in with neutral expectations and was kind of pleasantly surprised. It's been so long since I've seen the other movies so I wasn't comparing it to them or nitpicking with details or repeated tropes. I also loved the villain. My favorite Marvel villain in a long time. I don't care how whiny he seemed, it worked for me.

I’d honestly want a Peter Quill side story, movie, or tv show where Peter returns to Earth to catch up on things he’s missed. Peter had a human mother, so where’s her side of the family? Maybe Peter could meet up with them. Peter could also look into just how much Earth’s music culture has de-evolved since the 2010s.

Drax is also much more improved compared to the previous pictures.

Granted my expectations were shot down to how Disney had been handling the movies not only with how they're written but also by how they don't work with directors and cg studios that well anymore. The story was fantastic to me, great serious moments with that guardians humor to lighten it. I agree with peter quills character being whiney but it wasn't that big of a negative for me. The pacing didn't bother me and I loved the set design weirdly. I think it's top a 5 marvel movie

As far as the High Evolutionary screaming... yes, that is indeed the point. All his grandiosity and pomp goes out the window the moment Rocket is involved because he absolutely cannot accept that a mere "stepping stone," a "lesser" form of life outsmarted him. He is yelling BECAUSE he is the weakest man of all time whenever he's even so much as thinking of Rocket. They are VERY explicit that the mere *idea* of Rocket existing is enough to drive him insane. And yes, even his subordinates eventually notice this, hence the mutiny.

You're right. He's like the abusive father who has kids and uses his authority to control them and who puts himself in some line of work that allows him to gain recognition and power over people. The High Evolutionary has a whole planet of "people" he "created" with the whole place designed in a way for everyone to put him on a high pedestal. It's that type of abuser--the one who's not secure with himself--that has to dominate and hurt others in order to feel like they've obtained the worth that they hope others think they already had. I thought they really showed how evil he is because everything he had came from hurting others. He wants others to think he has it together, but he really doesn't.

Spoiler warning: I liked this film a lot, but my one big issue with it is that it doesn't balance melodrama with comedy very well. This is something that a lot of the recent Marvel movies struggle with, but it's a shame that gotg 3 struggles with it, too, because the other two gotg films probably did it better than most of the other MCU films, which is saying a lot. I remember seeing that scene where Draax tricks Mantis into getting on a motorbike to help the others right after the flashback of Lyla's death, and I was sitting there thinking, "This is too soon for jokes. I can't deal with this." It was so tonally jarring that it felt like two completely different movies interrupting each other instead of one movie. The melodrama was handled well, and some of the jokes got me a laugh, but the film was over two hours long. Realistically they could have cut several of those jokes.

I didn’t like it either. The group dynamic was off because Gamora’s new/gone, Rocket’s out of commission, and Peter is this shlubby drunk for the first 10 minutes (and then is cold and intelligent afterwards with no explanation). Each act of the film got better and better, and by the end I can say that I enjoyed it as a whole - but a plethora of jokes missed for me, the characters felt really off (except for Adam Warlock, Mantis, Drax, and Nebula), and it constantly had this annoying, variable style in music/editing/sound/cinematography that was extremely jarring to me (except for the cool hallway fight scene that actually utilized the obnoxious fish-eye lens and tracking shots). GotG 3 I think defies an easy interpretation of what went wrong because its strengths and weaknesses constantly changed between acts for me - it felt like 3 different films slammed together to create one non-cohesive product.

I liked Vol. 1 and loved Vol 2. (Probably my favorite Marvel movie) and I loved Vol. 3. I was prepared to not like it as much as Vol 2, but I think it came pretty close to me enjoying it just as much. Spoilers I don’t mind having a more melodramatic tone, as these are characters I care about, and I think the actors know how to pull emotions very well. I was pretty invested during the scenes where characters died or appeared like they were going to die. Even when it was pretty obvious they would or they wouldn’t, the scenes were really good at getting me to care. I was anxious about how they were going to handle Quill and Gamora since it would feel kind of disingenuous to have them fall in love just because another version of her loved him, and I thought they handled it okay. He simps for her in the first act, which I didn’t like initially, but it’s presented as a bad thing, as he’s just clinging to the things he’s lost instead of what he still has. He even acknowledges that Rocket may not have gotten as hurt as he did if he hadn’t been moping. And Gamora calls him out for being weak, and Mantis and Drax encourage him to stop with the lily pad analogy. After that scene I noticed he stopped actively simping for her, and the movie ends with them seeing each other as respected friends(?). It wasn’t the ending I wanted, but I think that it was a good choice to make. And I thought the villain was a decent parallel to this, as he was too unsatisfied with the way things were and kept trying to make things how he wanted them to no avail. I did have some complaints. I wish they had spent some more time interacting with Rocket before he was wounded. I’d have liked Quill and Gamora to have a bit more healthy interactions after he stopped trying to court her, even though I do agree with them not falling in love. And I would have liked Adam Warlock to have gotten more characterization. I’m honestly surprised you though he was the most consistently good thing, as I thought he was the weakest part. He didn’t really seem to have much character or emotion to me aside from being confused about everything. His mother died and I barely remember his reaction to that. I did think the dance party ending felt a little trite and cheesy, especially since the main characters weren’t even all together for it, as this was meant to be their last moment together before parting ways. And while I’m not personally a fan of a lot of the humor, it didn’t really get too much in the way of the main story for me, so I didn’t mind it. And the jokes that did make me smile were appreciated. I’d have to see it again to have a sure opinion, but I had a great time, and I left the theater wanting to see it again.

Only three things really bug me about the film. The first is them seemingly setting up a romance sub-plot between peter and nebula which doesn't go anywhere. The second is how this film is even more irrelevant to the blip than the others (from Peter saying how he ALMOST destroyed half the universe when he DID destroy half the universe to the fact that Rocket losing everyone because of the blip is never addressed especially when you see he went through a similar experience before. Even Gunn's argument that this being away from earth makes it easier to ignore the blip makes no sense as the blip was a universe wide catastrophe, not an earth only thing). The third is how they treated Gamora. This film wants you to believe that she was from a point in time when she was still loyal to thanos when according to endgame this is the gamora at the beginning of the guardians film, so there is no reason for her to be so different from the Gamora everyone knew nor why she and PEter didn't have a chance. She also doesn't know who he is when she clearly stated in the first film 'I know who you are, PETER QUILL!'. It really does feel forced the way Gunn is trying to make it so that PEter and Gamora don't get together. Also we never get to see how her reappearance and change in personality affects the rest of the guardians as she wasn't just important to Peter.

Guardians 1 and 2 were more bright and colorful but they were both still super dark stories full of genocide and melodrama (ps this movie made me cry like 3 and a half times while laughing simultaneously

This movie is the most different from the other guardian movies as it’s meant to be more depressing, these guys were split up for 5 years with most of them being dusted, the one of them dead and replaced and a lot of new trauma and old trauma they must face, it’s rather bold for a guardian film I feel and it paid of perfectly by having the characters all shine in their own moments and ways aswell as having rocket a pretty under appreciated character as the emotional heart to tie it all together But that’s just how I saw it

I get the feeling Doug’s gonna like this movie a bit more when he rewatches it for a Disneycember. Edit: I saw his Disneycember and while he still didn’t like it, I’m glad he isn’t stubborn and admits that he’s glad that me and the majority of audiences love the film even if he didn’t.

In this movie the story was the most important thing, most of the screaming of the characters has a very good explanation and reason, they are all very distressed because is kind of the first time they are facing this situation, the villian screams because he is crazy, he wants to be rational and powerfull but is really broken so he vents all his frustration yelling, and as the movie goes on you understand why he is like that. The color palette is less saturated because the movie is not a happy playful film like 1 or 2. I thought this movie didn't have almost any humor or jokes, the door situation was a little funny to me, an alien that never has encontered an earthly car door, and doesn't know how to use it (i dare to say that in a decade ther would be people that woudn't know how to open a pre 2000s car). In movies it always botther me how characters go to new planets and use stuff they never encountered before without any problem, this movie addresses that 2 or 3 times, old tech, weird tech, and custom tech that they don't know how to use. But for me this was a drama over everything else, the characters find some kind of closure to all the suffering they had gone through

Just saw it the other day, absolutely loved the film minus Gamora being a complete ass and like 1 or 2 parts. This was a fantastic film, an epic send off and honestly, my 2nd favorite trilogy in the series just behind Captain America. All 3 movies are consistently good and get progressively more dark and personal as it continues but keeps the same atmosphere. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I enjoyed this movie and I'm glad James Gunn was brought back and got to cap off the trilogy that he started. If I wasn't so invested in the characters, I probably wouldn't have been emotional at the end.

I also thought the movie was really gritty for no reason. There was like no colour. Also one of the main Guardians can't interact with any of the others for 90% of the movie and there's a fetch quest, it's just so trying. It eventually becomes a guardians movie with that hallway scene but it's just too little too late and I didn't think I got my money's worth. It felt like the shell of a guardians movie without a soul. And wearing a jacket made out of depression

Sure seems the critics aren't fond of this one. But looking at the comment section in each of the last 3 reviews I've watched, screams that the fans loved it. I'm with the rest of the fans. It was great and I want more! It honestly felt a bit like a Rocket movie with the rest of the Guardians in it. I've been wanting to see more about Rocket since volume 1, I'm glad they gave it to us. I would like to see a Quill movie taking place after this one to see how Earth plays out for him, I think there's a lot that can be done with that. But, I also would insist on the rest of the ensemble showing up in the movie, and not just showing up at the end of the 3rd act to show us a "power of friends" moment. Beginning of the second act at the latest. I would love to see the rest of them interacting with Earth. Quill freaking out trying to keep them in line as they are all staying at his grandfathers house haha I just want more! You could give me a movie with Drax staring at a port-a-potty for 90 minutes and I would be satisfied with it haha

9:26 Doug did you forget how in the first one they took out like ALL those ships that were maki that yellow net around the bad guys ship? And then in 2 Kurt Russels blue blob thing definitely killed like easily a thousand people. So… no they don’t guard stuff well at all. 😂
