I actually quite like this movie. No, it's not fun (outside of the few action sequences that ARE present, which I enjoy), but I find the ideas too potentially fascinating to really care. I think people would gravitate to it more if it came out now, what with all the folks clamoring for comic book movies that deviate from formula.

In all fairness, Ang Lee isn't a bad idea for a director of a Hulk film. The Green Giant's best stories usually have a focus on either being super destructive or explore Bruce and Hulk's psychological dealings. The best one, imo, the Wprld War Hulk Saga, does both. It has Hulk and Banner sort of fuse into one being in order to survive the planet of Sakaar, and even be joined in one purpose after facing a painful death of someone close: the punishment or death of the Illuminati. It's not that Hulk is angry at this, but that Hulk AND BANNER are BOTH joined in a shared hatred of his former colleagues over that death, and are one in action and thought to wage war; hopefully for one last time. It's essentially Marvel's first attempt at a true Epic, with how many changes the characters go through, how expansive both Earth and Sakaar are, and from how much Hulk and Banner grew. I say this because Ang Lee is ideal for the emotional depth of Hulk and may even be best suited if given a producer or helping hand that can assist with an added Horror aspect that really makes Hulk's stories pop. The main issue, to me at least, is that Ang Lee had too little understanding of the characters and didn't do his homework as effectively as when he did Crouching Togdr, Hidden Dragon. Which explains another, seeing as it's the _execution_ of the ideas that screwed this movie over, and not the ideas themselves.

Honestly, one of the reasons I like this film even despite all the flaws pointed out is that it's the only Hulk film that was willing to try and experiment. No, it doesn't always pay off and it definitely runs too wild with the surreal shit and melodrama, but it's definitely trying to do something mature. Hell, given the advent of more serious, character-driven superhero works like The Dark Knight and even the comic-book style editing of Into the Spider-Verse, you could even call the movie a bit ahead of its time. The Hulk stories have spent a long time exploring psychological trauma and using the Not at All Jolly Green Giant as a metaphor for said trauma, so to see a film that does attempt to pay justice to those themes, even if it doesn't succeed as much as it stumbles, is really admirable to me. Plus, I'd like to see MCU Hulk try and hammer-toss a 100-ton Abrams tank half a mile into a sand dune.

Edward Norton was approached to play Bruce Banner, but turned it down, as, despite being a fan of the Hulk, he didn't like the script. He later accepted the role in "The Incredible Hulk (2008)." The frog is fake. The crew pumped air into it to make it look like it was breathing. Ang Lee said that the opening montage is like an overture to an opera. The word "hulk" is only ever used once in the film.

@@gracekim25It doesn't need to be a fully animated movie to have an animation-like style. Just look at Detective Pikachu - it has an entire world in the Pokemon style, and it meshes that perfectly with the live-action format. (the Pokemon's models are actually real-life objects too) Let's say instead of overusing comic book transitions and special effects, the Hulk movie went for the harsh black shadows and powerful action poses that comic books are famous for. That could actually work extremely well as a style, would translate well into a movie format and probably make lighting any CGI models a lot easier.

Because it's buried inside of an otherwise painfully dull slog of a movie. Batman and Robin was an insane train wreck from beginning to end so it was very entertaining. This movie has a couple weird moments (Hulk fighting Giant dogs and Nolte freak out) but besides that it's completely unmemorable. It all just kind of blends together.

Because Batman and Robin was bad in a "it's so bad, it's almost funny" kind of way. This movie is bad in a "Oh God, make it stop!!!" kind of way, which makes people not want to remember it. Like, at all.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to direct a cinematic adaptation of the Hulk. The action is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of biochemistry and nuclear physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer’s head.

Tommy from the fucking Room is better at acting than this because at least he displays some basic emotion, even if it's executed hilariously badly. This bitch however, would keep that stupid, dull, soulless look on even in dangerous situations where fucking survival instinct would be screaming otherwise! Arrgh!!

And what we're all forgetting is that when an otherwise good actor turns in a bad performance, it's not necessarily their fault but the director's. Look at HP: Order of the Phoenix. I still think David Yates told everyone, "Don't act - just stand there!"

I got funny ones, until the last one. The first ad was a disaster movie, where John Carter/Gambit and Fant4stic Reed Richards fight wildfires, with Thanos/Cable as their boss, that's pretty good. At the halfway mark, when he set up the commercial break, I got an ad titled: Spicy Girls Dry Rub, but it wasn't as "interesting" as it sounded, it was a recipe for bbq ribs, which I guess is okay.... The ad that started at the end was one of those arthritis ones, with all the side effects that sound worse than having arthritis.
