I checked Amazon, Fry's, and Micro Center and I could not find a GTX 1070Ti at the MSRP of $450. On the other hand, you can find a GTX 1080 for less than the MSRP of $550. I traded my 1070Ti for a 1080 and only paid $10 more from my local Micro Center lol. I do miss the iCX cooler that the 1070Ti had though.

    Question: Are the figures for the other cards reused from previous benchmarks or did you bench each card again with their respective updated drivers? I would imagine it would be an insurmountable amount of work to rerun each of those benchmarks each time, but how often do you update the base numbers referenced for each card? I'd be delighted to get a peek behind the scenes into your benchmarking methodology.

  • @Hardwareunboxed

    @Hardwareunboxed

    6 жыл бұрын

    I just updated all the numbers. The data is always fresh. For the most part drivers only address certain games but I always grab one or two cards from each team and run them through all the games to see if there are any unexpected changes. Often the biggest changes come when games are updated, so that can be a pain.

    The GTX 1070 Ti Gigabyte OC Gaming from MSY is $739 AUD but a GTX 1080 Galax EX OC from the same store is only $699. I think a GTX 1080 is a price to performance winner here comparing the 2 cards. You can see that the retailers are targeting Miners with the GTX 1070 Ti and Gamers with the GTX 1080. Also as you said it all boils down to silicon lottery with your GTX 1070 Ti a clear winner and the GTX 1080 not as much.

    I got a Palit 1070Ti and could get it to clock to Core+150, VRAM+250. But I changed the already excellent cooler for an NZXT G12 with Kraken X52 and it now clocks to +220, +500, giving me a stable gaming clock of 2.115Ghz and 5Ghz VRAM with temps around 49*C. The boost clock drops a bit in the 50s and drops well off in the 60s if I shut the radiator fans off. Cooling is important with GPU Boost.

    So, dumb question: if you decide to OC a 1070 Ti, does one need to do anything special for cooling? Or is the factory fans good enough for OC. CPU's usually need better cooling for OC, so that's why I ask.

  • @JanMachovec
    @JanMachovec6 жыл бұрын

    Thanks Steve for this, I think most people here are enthusiasts, so they're much more interested in OC'd results as you can find stock tested HW all over the internet. However I am still missing something, never bumped into such a test and I think everyone here would love to see it: - Take all core/thread CPU combinations and fix them to the same frequency - Test them on a top-end, performance and mainstream GPU - Around 15 new games Full HD only would do as lot of these people aim at high-frequency gaming and the differences would diminish at higher resolutions anyway All these CPUs clocked @ 5GHz 2C/4T (7350K) 4C/4T (7600K) 4C/8T (7700K) 6C/6T (8600K) 6C/12T (8700K) tested on these GPUs clocked @ 2GHz core / 9GHz memory (11GHz for GDDR5X) GTX 1060 GTX 1070 Ti GTX 1080 Ti That would give a great picture for those who always plan to overclock and want to futureproof their builds. We won't probably see a big bump in CPU performance in a recent future, so that futureproofs the test itself, IPC is the same for years. It would show how today's games are core/thread dependent as unfortunately most tests today distorts the results by frequency differences and we cannot see through that. Also the next GPU generation will probably see a performance bump something like: GTX 1060 will be comparable to GTX 2050 Ti, 1070 Ti -> 2060, 1080 Ti -> 2070 Ti, etc... so this in its sense will give a long sight for how CPUs affect GPU performance. Please, say something like "challenge accepted", you're the only dude that can do this.

    Georgios P3d ANY version is more CPU bound over GPU. I have both P3d v4.1 and Xplane 11. I run them off an Asus Strix oc 1080ti. But as always has been with flight Simms it's more CPU than GPU. Although the 1080ti 11 gig memory does help a lot regarding AA and textures. Autogen is CPU bound. In your P3d settings pages it's best to learn which ones are controlled by CPU and which are controlled by Gpu, there not a lot being controlled by the GPU;).

    Georgios Your welcome brother, if you need advice on either Simm just ask, I have worked on Config files for Simms since the early days of Microsoft Fs. P3d Cfg is basically the same code at it's heart. Your CPU @4.2 is fine for P3d v4.1, your card is perfect for it. The problem with the majority of P3d users is they tend to crank up the Autogen (trees buildings) to the max, this brings most CPU'S to their knees, Autogen density and traffic especially cars are usually the culprit for performance loss, reflections also, Your clouds for e.g. are more GPU as well as any AA settings you set and resolution as well as your scenery ground textures and water. My advice would be to lower the Autogen and traffic settings, watch your performance increase, then adjust your Lod raidias setting (How far you see distant objects) slide to fit with your Autogen setting so it looks right, you should see much better performance due to your CPU not being stressed. Also disable reflections as it needs working on in future updates. Anything else just ask, no problem.

    I agree 100%..Great video. You can pick up used 1070 Ti's on eBay for 360-420 bucks. I scored a lightly used EVGA 1070 Ti FTW2 With original box and all papers for 400.00. Out of the box ALL 1070 T i's are clocked exactly the same. The only card series enforced by Nvidia to restrict factory clocks out of the box.... Now you see why... they are BEASTS.. by the way if you are considering a 1070, you are better off buying a 980ti. cheaper and better performance and much better Overclocker adding even more performance...

    After saving for months, now i am able to get Ryzen 1700X and a Strix 1080Ti but with an air cooler for a CPU or i can get a watercooler but with Strix 1080 instead. I am not a hardcore gamer but i am more of designer so i do alot of rendering and 3D modeling. So is the watercooler necessary for CPU giving my workload is kind of more depended on the CPU performance rather than the GPU? What do you think guys? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

    Thanks mate. The margins are exactly the same at 1080p, nothing changes since they are of the same architecture and memory bandwidth becomes less important. As for the crazy price to performance charts, well this one was pretty straight forward and didn't really call for it ;)

    If the price difference isn’t very high in your country, I say like max diff $40 then go for the 1080. Over here in Canada price difference can be 100-150 depending on the brand u would go for I’m currently thinking of the EVGA 1070ti ftw ultra silent it is on sale on amazon for $670 CAD

    The 1070Ti we could say is underclocked, you can safely push the clocks higher to match a non overclocked 1080 and still get a low temperature.

    A bit off the topic from the 2 video cards in the video but i cant help myself. Nvidias range and pricing on GPU's at the moment is really screwed up. Just checking out the prices on MSY and a GTX 1050 ti 4GB is selling for $269 and a GTX 1060 3GB is at $279. Why even bother with the 1050 ti.

    Because if you get a card with only 3GB for gaming you are horribly screwed. They shouldn't even sell those for modern day gaming. That is why it is so cheap.

  • @BoomBox02

    Vinnie Hugo please get educated before you comment. A GTX 1060 is mainly good enough to max out games at 1080P thus 3GB is enough for the majority of games out there. Whats more screwed is having 4GB on a card that isn't powerful enough to utilize all the ram.

Then the mining craze hit so and when i got my newer rig with an i5 3570k, i bought a couple of GTX 680 4GB for $175 and am running them in SLI and getting way better better performance than the 1060. I could not be happier with the performance i am getting for the money i spent.

    I feel like the XDDR5 would be more future proof, as games are inevitably going to benefit from faster vRAM over more vRAM in the future (but not too distant future) but this is purely my speculation, I don't know for sure. I'm torn between which one to buy.
