The irony is the UFC is a lot more entertaining to me when I feel it is a legitimate sport, because then the fights and the belts actually mean something. Nothing against Conor, but he got a direct shot at the LW title over the top of guys who had been working their way up to it in that division for years. Then he goes on extended leave and now he wants a boxing match rather than defend the belt against a top contender. The belts are losing their meaning, losing their shine, and this Bisping GSP fight is just another continuation of that erosion of authenticity.

Now if you mean its becoming less competitive then i 100% agree. People who are considered draws get ahead over those with more skill because they can draw eyes on the ufc. The belt's started losing credibility when Conor got the title shot at 155 without facing any top contenders. I was on board at the time cause I thought it was a one off deal but if it's the shape of how the company means to operate from now on then I fear it will soon be a mixture of boxing and pro wrestling business ideals that already fucked up their own respective sport's.

there are several divisions in disarray. 185, 155 are currently messed up and 170 and 145 are starting to straighten out again. UFC need to stick to the Champ fighting top 3 contenders only or it will become a circus with interim titles raining from the sky.

It did 875,000 buys in North America alone which means it probably clocked up a little over a million world wide. GSP is arguably the best ever and he's hugely popular. One of the few undisputed PPV kings in the sports history. I didn't doubt it would do impressive numbers especially cause they loaded up the card around this fight

On the other hand, these two fighters were company men for well over a decade, and helped the UFC expand into new markets. IMO, there is nothing wrong with rewarding these two legends with a fight that they both wanted, and that ultimately the fans loved.

Every time you make a video is like Christmas for me. I count the fucking days. Thank you for best most entertaining MMA content for st8 up saying it like it is and for being a purist of the sport.

You raise an important issue that is much bigger than just the Middle Weight Division. I've been guilty of blaming Conor for the destruction of the Featherweight division, followed closely by the Light Weight, which is now also in a state of chaos and limbo. But I was wrong. It's not really about Conor and the "I'll do whatever the fuck I want" mentality, it's the UFC itself and how they have chosen to manage their divisions. With WME-IMG at the helm it's spiraling down the drain pipe. The only saving grace is that there are still a lot of great fighters looking to claim their fame and fortune. The problem is they live in a world where the rules get written and rewritten at will. It's a mess, plain and simple, and the UFC really is only 1 step away from the WWE in terms of its authenticity.

but sadly a depressing one. The state of the UFC is very troubling and I think it is only going to continue to get worse. The problem is the UFC is the number 1 brand in MMA. They have so much momentum that in the end, for better or for worse, it is they who will control the future shape of this so called sport. When you consider the fact that they are now owned by a Hollywood Talent Agency it's not that hard to see that the UFC is being systematically turned into a multi billion dollar entertainment industry that has very little to do with sport, because sport is too inflexible when it comes to maximizing revenue. MMA is simply not what it used to be anymore and that's just the cold hard truth of it.

me too but his first fight back should be at his natural weight class, and it should not be a title fight. Constantly compromising the divisions and the belts to chase more money will at some point, damage the UFC and I think it will end up biting them on the foot.

2 years later and it hasn't improved much. The MW division crowned an Interim champion who was gifted a vacant title because of GSP leaving. Whittaker basically lost his only title defense but gifted the win. He hasn't fought since and won't until October of 2019, assuming he stays healthy. They even crowned a new interim champion in this span of time, while almost all the top contenders mentioned in this video have fallen from grace or been inactive.

I agree with all sentiments in this video and would like to add one. If Luke Rockhold had not fought one of the dumbest fights in UFC history and got caught, Bisping would never have been champion. Bisping will milk this for all it's worth because, frankly, any one of the top five guys in the division could handle him quite easily at any time.

Also the reality is that Bisping was never the best MW in the world...he took advantage of a last minute opportunity against a superior fighter who, unknown at the time, had a shot chin. Then defends against a legend that’s literally closer to 50 than he is 40 and almost loses. Had Hendo, who I love, sealed the deal the 185 champ would’ve been like the 15th best guy in the division, maybe. The last 3 fights of Bisping’s career were thank you checks from the UFC.

They're betting that the general public just wants to see two ninjas fight each other under whatever terms they both agree to - and they're probably right

you should do the same thing on Floyd vs Conor that's also a hold back on the Lightweight division.
