What a wretched woman. She should have just killed herself and left her family alone. Postpartum depression? Yeah, no, I'm so sick of this being used as an excuse to kill children/families.

I just do not understand why people have to kill their intire families. Why not just kill yourself and not take your family with you. I will never understand how anyone specially a mother can kill their children. I will never understand it. As a mother and grandmother I can't imagine hurting my babies. I protect them with everything I have and always will no matter how old they get. RIP to these poor babies and the husband. My heart goes out to them. Thank you for doing this story Harmon. When you mentioned that she had 18 months old twins, my first thought was of postpartum depression. It can last for years when not treated properly, and back then it wouldn't have been recognized as such. What a sad case and there's barely any information about this family. May they all R.I.P. and not be forgotten.

Hi Harmin. It sounds like Elizabeth suffered from post-partum depression. I can't even think of taking another life let alone a husband and children. Even under a doctors care women suffer from it. Look at the nurse and mother who killed her three children and than jumped off the roof only to survive but now paralyzed from the waist down. You have to be in some sort of pain to do all of that. Her husband is standing by her side. He must be a great man to do it. I understand that some of these cases are really hard for you and I find myself worrying about you Harmin. It can not be easy covering some of these cases. Just please take sometime between some of these to make sure you are not getting overwhelmed. 🙂 Safe travels my friend. Thank you Harmin for sharing some of these very difficult cases. Your efforts are definitely not going unnoticed

I feel so sad for all of the family. My friends sister tried but failed to commit suicide and take her young daughter with her. When I was talking to her long after the attempt I asked her why did she want to kill her daughter as well. She told me that the world was too cruel, and hard and she didn't feel her daughter deserved that kind of life. For the sake of her daughter she could make things better for her if she could be with her forever in a better and happier place.. Every case is different and I could kind of understand her view. She was very glad that she was saved before she killed herself and I was too.

Thank you! For bringing us. The case of this family.. I have no empathy for the killer. In spite of her mental health. She robbed those children/husband.. Of their lives. Lives she had no right to take. It is totally disrespectful. To be buried next to their killer. It's like she robbed them of their lives. Now in death. She's trying to rob them. Of their peaceful journey. I can't imagine the betrayal and fear. They must have felt. Knowing that the monster was their own mother/wife. Lets never forget this family. Earthly justice wasn't served. But I know in the afterlife. Justice will be carried out. Well done!⚖️⚖️⚖️⚖️😢

My cousin was murdered in Ava, Missouri. Rural Ava. Anyway my cousin’s husband Bob had suffered a nervous breakdown when he was in college, and then he’d had a child with his ex wife in Chicago. His Ex wouldn’t let him see his son. Bob had met and married my cousin Sylvia, at Sylvia’s husband’s funeral. Sylvia’s husband had died in a motorcycle accident in 1977. My cousin had two daughters, Teresa & Brenda, ages 12 and 9 respectively! July 1985, Bob snapped. He hit Sylvia with a piece of construction piping, then took a gun into Teresa & Brenda’s bedroom, killing them both. He goes to the phone, tells his neighbor to wait five minutes, call the law. He’d just killed his whole family, he was gonna kill himself. Bob then laid down in bed next to Sylvia, put a 12 gauge shotgun into his mouth. When the law got there, they assumed Sylvia was shot also, with the amount of blood on her, which was his. I still remember the headline in our local newspaper on the front page. It said this. TRAGIC END OF A MODEL FAMILY. I won’t ever forget that. They buried my cousin, her two daughters and Bob in Oakland cemetery, Ft. Madison, Iowa. All laid side by side. Sylvia’s stone just had her name Sylvia, Mother of Teresa & Brenda. The girls have their stone that says, Teresa & Brenda Zike. Bob’s family never purchased him a stone, but we know he’s there. They wiped their hands of him I suppose. My family let him be buried beside his family he murdered though, but wouldn’t acknowledge him there with a stone.

This is another one of those tragic cases where the mother is sick & is not to blame for her actions. This poor woman obviously needed help long before the murders. May they all RIP.

If she felt like she had to commit suicide then so be it but she had no right to take someone else's life especially if it is a child!

My family knows because my grandma grew up with the murder. They lived in the same block after my grandmother got married and moved away they lost touch. But when it happen my great grandma still lived in the area and told my grandmother when it happen. She spoke about it time to time and felt really bad for the children.

back in those days mental health wasn’t taken seriously or wasnt being treated. it was hard to be able to know what was going on or know what the effects were. people didn’t expect people to kill their loved ones because of something like anxiety or depression. they didn’t know as much about those disorders as we do now.

This is a similar story to what happened to the children in Massachusetts at the hands of their mother. What they both have in common is doctors prescribing medications.

She was probably suffering from postpartum from just having the twins. Back then it wasn't recognized and treated correctly.
