The national anthem of Greece
About the anthem:
The "Hymn to Liberty", or "Hymn to Freedom" is a poem written by Dionysios Solomos in 1823 that consists of 158 stanzas and is used as the national anthem of Greece and Cyprus. It was set to music by Nikolaos Chalikiopoulos Mantzaros in 1865 and is the longest national anthem in the world by length of text.
About the composers:
Dionysios Solomos (1798 - 1857) was a Greek poet from Zakynthos, who is considered to be Greece's national poet. He is best known for writing the Hymn to Liberty.
Nikolaos Chalikiopoulos Mantzaros (1795 - 1872) was a Greek-Italian composer born in Corfu. His most popular composition remains the musical setting for the poem of Dionysios Solomos' Ýmnos eis tīn Eleutherían (Hymn to Liberty).
Some notes about the video:
The first two stanzas are usually played as the official anthem of Greece.

I was listening to this next to my girlfriend. She is Moldovan and we live abroad. Without knowing what i listen to, she told me that what i hear is beautiful. I told her its the Greek anthem, my country's anthem. I am relly proud.

So according to some sources (in Greek), the anthem was considered "official" since the reign of George I of Greece, who made it "official".

My bad, and yes you're right. In those times the monarch in Greece was Otto I.
You ve made a mistake. It was composed by Matzaros in 1828. In 1865 it became the official national anthem.
I like the music, but the text is full of distress and pain....
