they were not as good as the european soviets. If you look at the list of teams who have ever won USSR natinal championships, it is not them. Very very few have ever made it to top 5

It’s full. It’s just that these peoples are generally smaller than the total number. At least Irina Stepanova or Vilikton Barannikov, Zharmukhamedov Alzhan, Konokbayev Serik, Rustamova Zebeniso, Malakhbekov Raimkul and many others. On the Olympic champions ru website you can find both in the republics of the USSR and in the regions of the Russian Federation. Everything is in the public domain, study

There were too many ethnicities in the USSR to fit them all in a football team. Lineup for the final game included one Georgian, one Belarusian, three Ukrainian players and one born from Tatar father and Lithuanian mother. They cared much more of team's strength than "diversity".
