There is no prince that was promised. It was a bullshit prophecy. Much like the world ending in 2012 at the end of the Mayan calendar, or Y2K. This is something I enjoy about GoT. Not every prophecy or claim comes true, because people are full of shit sometimes. It is something our world can relate to. I very much enjoy that.

I understand why people hate Melisandre but she is one of my favorite characters in all of GOT. She acted on her beliefs and was so sure of them until she realized she was wrong. In season 6 she wanted to die but the Lord of Light kept her alive. She brought Ice and Fire together, she helped end the Long Night. She's the true MVP. I love this video.

@@brunom7162 That's the definition of a gray character, and what makes them so complex and compelling. The best characters created have elements of good and evil in them. Take Walter White, Loki, or Jaime Lannister, for instance. We feel so strongly for these characters, conflicts of love and disgust, because they're the most realistic and relatable portrayals of our own humanity. Melisandre did "evil" things, but she sacrificed with the intent to save mankind as a whole, not because she enjoyed it. She was no Ramsey.

Melisandre lived for around 300 years and surely must have seen many people die over the course of her life. I believe the Melisandre we see in the story is a person who believes (or knows) that sometimes necessary evil needs to be done for the greater good and a death of one child is nothing if you believe it will save millions of people. Of course the biggest problem with Melisandre is that she has read certain prophecies differently and so Shireen died for nothing. However, I understand that at the time she believed she was doing the right thing. I am really interested in how will her story end in the book series, even Shireen's story isn't over there yet.

That's one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. This video is full of bitter-sweet memories. You reminded me why Melisandre has always been my favourite GoT character. Oh, how beautiful were the days when Stannis and Melisandre were planning how to rule the World... It's so emotional to see Melisandre becoming a whole different person since Stannis' defeat. Even the colour of her clothes changed from fiery red to dark red. She was such a complex character and this must have been very challening for Carice, but she managed to shine. She is such a gifted actress and so amazingly beautiful, but unfortunately both Melisandre's and Carice's contribution to Game of Thrones has been somehow underrated and that's very sad. However, you did a perfect video, great work! That's what I call Art❤️

She's definitely in my top 5 characters on the show I just loved to watch. Others would by Lady Olenna, Tywin, Brienne, and Varys. But Melisandre was just captivating. She committed the worst act of murder on the show with burning Shireen. It was absolutely shocking. But, I still wept for her when she died. She had one of the most interesting character arcs. She went from being so confident with Stannis, to being completely broken afterwards. But, she admitted her mistakes. Thank you for this fan edit.

“Melisandre...you’re a good woman. Thank you.” Gorgeous!! Meli's absolutely one of my favorite characters--played brilliantly by the indescribably beautiful and immeasurably talented lady who has become my all-time favorite actress. I did want a longer Long Night with an army of red priest[esse]s joining her, and when she died I wanted that to be the final shot of the entire series...wished she were still around to again help with trying to seat a decent ruler on the throne! Everything she's done has been ultimately aimed toward humanity's salvation. She did what she genuinely believed was needed to achieve that end. Her gaze has always been elevated. She knew what was coming. She's lived for centuries; when you've been around that long, individual sacrifices seem less drastic relative to the big picture, and the apocalypse. Yes, she's a fanatic--but not an evil one. Not malicious or sadistically cruel. Not a charlatan duping people into worshiping a false god. She has no personal anger, hatred, or vendettas. Burning of sacrifices and enemies of R'hllor? From the perspective of such a character, they can only be great blessings. When delivering someone into the sacred, purifying flames and R'hllor's warm embrace, there is no question that screams of horror will give way to screams of ecstatic joy in the beyond. Sold as a child slave to the Red Temple, Mel essentially underwent an extreme form of Stockholm Syndrome, finding strength, stability, and purpose in life by devoting herself utterly to the Red God. The god of love, light, life, truth, joy. He must have become her only comfort. She's in truth one of the more altruistic characters, serving not herself but her Lord, faithfully and painstakingly and tirelessly. She considers herself a mere vessel, a conduit for his power and will. Supporting Stannis and going as far as she did with him was a most grievous error; no one knows it better than she. It went unrewarded. Her entire foundation seemed to fall away beneath her when she thought she'd been deluded all along, & she was bereft and depressed for quite a while, even after resurrecting Jon. But she's also sincere--she'll own up to having made mistakes, no matter how awful, can plainly admit when she's been wrong, and then learns from it. She softens, moderates, reconsiders and adjusts her hard-line fanatical stances. The only GoT prequel I strongly want is one that involves Melisandre's backstory. She's such a mysterious, fascinating, complex, intriguing character. (The one about the original Long Night would be good too, though that might well show up this one.) For one thing I'd like to know why she was so thoroughly convinced of Stannis for so long. Melisandre helped bring the right groups of people together and ensured they'd stay united. She brought Jon back despite (or perhaps thanks to?) her brokenness. She gifted the Dothraki with fire (and the audience with illumination)--not her fault the horselords were (mostly? totally?) doomed. That's all on their strategist(s.) It's inevitable that their charge with regular arakhs would've been exponentially less effective without her. Mel bought the living crucial time by saving their trench plan. I like how her incantations tend to work when she's desperate, teary, shaky, pleading. The Lord of Light really makes you work for your miracles. Every shot of her in ep. 3 is stunningly gorgeous (actually, I should just change "in ep. 3" to "ever.") But that iconic fire in her eyes...yeah. That wonder, amazement, gratitude..;0; And Arya wouldn't have attacked the Night King without her revelation & prodding. And then, Mel's death scene. Poignant, dignified, beautiful. (And Mother Gothel-esque.) One of the multiple death scenarios I'd envisioned for her, though it happened too early for my liking. I didn't want her gone yet. She strides silently through the corpse-littered field, discards her necklace and lets the ruby glow its last, walks on...and gradually transforms into the super-elderly her, finally disintegrating and blowing away into the wind. I'm just so glad that the episode ended so poignantly on her. She showed up early on to do her part, and she closed it out. Walking willingly into the overdue rest for which she's been ready a long time. Having fulfilled her purpose, she heads straight into her beloved Lord's embrace as the sun begins to rise. Reuniting, hopefully, with any whom she's loved and outlived. The weight of the world has lifted from her shoulders at long last, and she can finally sleep, after this long lifetime spent fighting with darkness. Remaining driven and focused and committed to her raison d'etre 'til the end. No more need to fear the dreams. She beautifully bookended the BoW, a true highlight of the season. Anyway, Mel is my MVP, Lightbringer, Azor Ahai, Princess Who Was Promised, the one before whom the darkness fled-regardless of whatever the heck the show was trying to do. (Maybe even Nissa Nissa too?) One of my favorite theories was that it had been her all along, yet she never considered that as a possibility.

She was one of the few understanding how terrible the danger from the North was, and how pointless the war between kings and queens was compared to this threat. She was a believer, a very strong believer, although she understood she did not see the truth into the fire, but only what she wanted to see. She was suicidal and went on, she was a lead for the people, she truly believed in her own king. She was enigmatic, charismatic, full of mystery by her unclear past. She was the fire burning during winter. I loved her. What she did to Shireen, what she gave birth to, who she betrayed, all the mistakes that she recognized at the end are all the mistakes that made her hateful, that made her that witch we won't forget.

YES! I was just thinking about your channel a few hours ago and I was waiting for you to release a video perhaps about Melisandre or Missandei and I'm so glad you did! Melisandre was such a unique and complex character with so many added layers to her. I hated her in the beginning. Well, I was quite naive back then and mainly routed for people like Dany and Arya but I've grown to adore the subtle complexities of smart characters like Margaery, Olenna and Melisandre.
