Some bands / artists I've been following for a long time are (among others) Massive Attack, Pink Floyd, Pet Shop Boys, Archive, A-Ha, Yes, Porcupine Tree, John Mellencamp, Jean-Michel Jarre, Metallica, Peter Gabriel and Perturbator. So my music will kind of sound like those (without ever reaching the greatness of those artists, of course). :-)

    Nice work! I’d really like if Yamaha would release an EX5-II, with proper processing power, a big touchscreen for easier editing, more memory and poly-AT. But I guess that won’t ever happen…

    That won't happen. I once heard a podcast that customers were overwhelmed by all the synth stuff when all they wanted was a reliable stage synth ;-) Things have changed, though. There was no KZread synth community 25 years ago...

    The AWM section sounds exactly the same but sample playback was not the most important feature of the EX5. I will keep mine for the unique FDSP

    Thanks for watching! You're right, FDSP is hard to emulate (plus it's one of Yamaha's trade secrets), and if you have the og hardware and you're a synth expert in general, you might find a lot of things that aren't 100% EX5 here. But I think there's an audience that might be interested in this plugin - there are some famous EX5 sounds that are emulated quite closely here, especially the electric pianos which are quite expressive and usable for live playing with a group of singers. (Hence the companies' name ;-) )

    Great job. I bought the in ap version of bluebeast. Ive also got my 1999 Yamaha cs6x with horns and piano cards. The DX7 cards cost a fortune now I saw a used DX7 for $500 back in 1996, and I thought it was too high . I just the sounds used on what's love got to do with it and shake you down from Gregory Abbott for NYE gig and I've got them now.

    Congrats on the gig! I've seen the GM videos covering the Yamaha synths. Man, can he play! Curious if the Bluebeast or Puresynth software could act as a programmer for the actual EX5? I play it every day and still have no idea how it works!

    Hi, thanks for watching! Unfortunaly, that won't work this way. PureSynth is a sample-based synth that shares some similarities with Yamaha's AWM2 engine, but ultimately, it's a very different kind of tech. As Yamaha never fixed a bug in their sysex implementation, finding editors for the EX5 that work around that bug is nearly impossible. www.xfactory-librarians.co.uk/products.html is a librabarian with limited editing capabilities, and of course there's MidiQuest squest.com/Products/MidiQuest13/Instruments/YamahaEX5/index.html

    As always, thanks for this great video. May I ask a question? Were the patches made starting from the original samples (waves) of EX5? Thanks!

  • @mr_floydst

    Hi, thanks for watching! As I only used the PureSynth interface and had no involvement in creating the PureSynth software, I can't really answer this - the list of all the original ROM waves is there, and they sound quite like the EX5's original waves, but not exactly. This could be due to the offset off the samples, the difference Yamaha's D/A convertes make compared to my audio interface, or for entirely different reasons unknown to me. Best is you direct this question to Gospel Musicians.

  • @mr_floydst

    @mr_floydst

    10 ай бұрын

    Oh, I think I got the question wrong. ;-) Some of the patches use the waves as shown in the video. Some of them use full samples of the original patches. In the software, there are the original factory presets P1/P2, most of those are full, multilayered samples. Then there are the performances and the "Bonus Disks". On these, I used the internal waves to get as close as possible.

    Hola, increíble trabajo, apenas ví que lanzaron el complemento BlueBeast para PureSynth lo adquirí en mi iPad y estoy muy contento con el. Lo que sí tengo una duda y es que siempre he querido conseguir ese sonido de los 90 con un peso en los graves y cierta "desafinación suave" que da cierto peso al sonido (estilo Dyno Piano del Korg 01W) que se ve en el segundo 8:06 del EX5, pero de igual forma no lo consigue al 100% en la versión de BlueBeast del segundo 7:59, ¿alguna recomendación de como añadirlo? agregar algo de la rueda de modulación? agregar alguna ecualización aumentando las frecuencias bajas? Agradecería su ayuda y muy lindo trabajo!

    Hi, thanks for watching! While I made this video, I noticed I should have added a bit more chorus here and there. PureSynth definitely can do that. It's Reverb and Chorus plugins are pretty spot-on, so you can blame the sound editor for these inaccuracies. ;-) The only thing I couldn't work around are those "sizzling" sounds the EX5's filter can do. They add a very nice hi-fi feel to some of the sounds, and it's really hard to capture that.

    @Andronicus2007 The problem with the keyboard version are the plastic parts on the left and right side. Because of it's enormous weight, if you ever hit a wall/ a door while carrying the keyboard from one place to another, they will break. And nowadays, it's impossible to get spare parts. Apart from that, I can't really answer the original question - both are excellent machines which culminated decades of experience of both companies responsible for them. The Integra is seen in many studios as a "we need those sounds for most productions anyway" palette, while EX5 still is kind of an insider secret.
