This was the only workstation i was going deep witth. Its capable of creating unique soundscapes and textures, AN bass synthesis is very good, FSDP algorythm and the effetcs section is great. Wish only midi features were more updated. Had to sell it for Monomachine, but it has special place in my heart to this day.

I’ve got the little brother EX7 and some of the features are better than most modern keyboards, such an underrated keyboard

I feel the same. 80's analog is cool but there's only so much you can do and I feel like it's been covered more than enough by now. With 90's synths being sample based with advanced algorithms, the sounds were more unique and the variety endless. Most of my favorite songs come from 90's synths so I hope there is a focus on revisiting them soon. I'd love to see proper official VST's of them from all these companies (since the real hardware is breaking down and getting harder to find). Even KORG basically went from 1989/1991 M1 and WAVESTATION VST's to the Triton VST, skipping their amazing AI2 synths and the TRINITY/TR-Rack!

Had the 'board for like 10+ yrs. Sold that in exchange for the rack, fully loaded with aftermarket 16Mb RAM, additional outputs board, SCSI, nice floppy emulator with all the EX Web group patch banks, samples, etc. Never selling it as welded in to my rack !!! Great Franz 😎👍🎹🎵🇬🇧🍻

I have the rack as well. Bought it around 2012. The guy I bought it from did work for Radio stations, I think. He was surprised I knew about the model. He thought it would take him several months to sell it and he'd end up selling it to a recording studio, probably overseas. I only paid $150 for it, which I considered a bargain.

Extrem gut klingende Filter, mit denen man auch tolle Analog Sounds hinbekommt. Hab meinen EX5 aber dann doch verkauft, weil ich die Bedienung auf Dauer etwas zu umständlich fand und das MIDI Timing war leiter unterirdisch! Hab ihn durch nen MODX8 ersetzt, der wirklich auch ein extrem gut klingender Yamaha Synth ist. Die ganzen MOTIFs haben mich nie interessiert. Wenn der MODX jetzt neben seiner genialen 8 OP FM noch die AM Synthese des EX5 bzw AN1x hätte wäre er der ultimative Synth (für mich). Schöner Kanal btw. - abonniert! 👍

Im Livebetrieb greife ich auch nur sehr selten auf den EX5 zurück. Da brauche ich mittlerweile einfach mehr Flexibilität. Aber bei mir im Synthesizer Studio steht der EX5 immer in der ersten Reihe! Nach diesem Synth hat Yamaha meiner Meinung nach einen Schwenk zu einfach bedienbare Geräten gemacht - das war eben die Motif Serie bzw. auch die S Serie (80, 90 usw). Ich habe mir einen S90ES mit DX Board behalten. Das DX Board lässt sich zwar nur eingeschränkt editieren - aber wer will da schon mehr🙂. MODX´s sind super Synthis - eben auch wieder etwas "aufwändiger" - wie auch die älteren Geräte von Yamaha. Etwas viel Plastik wurde verbaut - das macht sich dafür beim geringen Gewicht postitiv bemerkbar.

@@Franz_Kreimer_Keys Der EX5 ist halt auch ein Riesen Schiff und nimmt viel Platz weg, aber wenn ich mal über nen EX5r stolpern sollte, sag ich bestimmt nicht nein. Die S-Serie kenn ich überhaupt nicht. Ein AN1x wäre wohl noch ne schöne Ergänzung zu meinem MODX 🙂 Ansonsten entdecke ich gerade mal (wieder) meinen JV-1080 neu und meine, irgendwo gelesen zu haben, dass du auch ein grosser Fan des Teils bist. Ich bin immer wieder verblüfft, was das Teil alles kann und wie fett der klingt. Wenn es doch nur einen vernünftigen Controller dafür gäbe.... 😕 Grüße aus Berlin

Hallo Lars! Es gab schon Anfragen auf FB ob ich meine Sounds verkaufe. Da doch viele Sounds auf geladene Samples zurückgreifen die sich bei mir im Ram bzw. auch im Flash Rom befinden, müsste ich diese aufbereiten. Es wird gerade an meiner Homepage gebastelt wo es auch einen Webshop geben soll. Dort wird es dann auch die Sounds geben!

@@Franz_Kreimer_KeysFor example the Pedal Steel patch at 2:19 and 2:24 has horrible digital glitching, like it was recorded too hot into your audio interface. Several other similar situations throughout the video (piano at 5:29, the upwards octave sequence). Either way - I like your playing!

@@EvilDragon666pedal steel is right - there is clipping. Shame on me. But not at the piano part. I can’t hear it there. 🤷‍♂️ The EX has an immense dynamic range and for such a video I play about 30-40 different sounds. For this video the UAD Apollo was behind me - so things could happen…

@@Franz_Kreimer_Keys It's less apparent on the piano part but there are some clicks there in the descending octaves, very short clipping bursts. Anyways, definitely a tricky thing to capture something with a huge dynamic range, that is understood. I wish you could just replace the audio track of the video with a declipped version, but IIRC KZread doesn't allow that, you'd have to post a whole new video... Either way - please post more EX5 content! Your playing is infectious and showcases the sounds in their best light!

No it absolutely does not. But the EX5 in turn can’t do some of the things the SY77 can, like use samples as modulators via FM, or any FM at all lol. There is nothing even close in hardware form to the FDSP section of the EX5. Yamaha really needs to expand on those algorithms. Nothing wrong with the SY77 or EX5 for that matter, they are both excellent, but to say one can do everything the other can is wrong.

@@huntergalloway3944 Actually FDSP can do a bit of FM, in fact. One of the FDSP algos is basically self-FM, another is a sine waveshaper, which is basically FM with 1:1 ratio.

Schade das der EX5 zwischen SY99 und der MOTIF - Serie war, ein mächtiger Synth, aber leider so sehr unterschätzt. Würde meinen EX5 um kein Geld der welt hergeben, auch meine 2, 99iger niemals.
