The detail that makes all the difference is that Peter got the suit back after saving the day and not before his final fight with The Vulture... the scene of his desperate crying for help wouldn't be half as powerful with his superhero suit.

I remember when the Avengers Infinity War trailer came out. I literally watched it back like 5 times - even till this day I watch it - and I still had my jaw dropped. Even for a Marvel movie the plot, theoretically, should be easy to spot with knowledge from previous movies and/or the comics. But the one thing that I like about this trailer is that the plot was pretty well camouflaged (I mean the movie itself had more action then plot but oh well) and the fact that Marvel deliberately changes or hides things in the trailers just makes them that much better. I remember when I watched the Endgame trailer and I thought I knew exactly how the movie was going to unfold and I was pissed. Then I remembered that Marvel is notoriously known for adding unused scenes and changed things so I had hope that what I thought wasn’t true. Back to the Infinity War trailer. Not to mention that the big bad villain reveal was long enough to make it unsettling for those who knew the MCU. Talk about initial impressions. The score of the movie, insane and makes the trailer feel like a mini movie. All and all the trailer made me sooo impatient for the movie and made the movie so much better for me to watch, because of the attention to detail and length that Marvel goes.

Using Nick Fury's lines of "There was an idea..." and Thanos' monologue of "In time, you know what's it like to lose..." foreshadowed what will happened in Infinity War but it was hidden so well that I only realized it after watching the movie. And the used of Avengers' theme song into slow and magnanimous orchestral beats compared to its original lighthearted version makes the stakes higher that it feels we're definitely going to a real war - the feeling of hype for guns blazing glory, anxiety of losing comrades, and the bitter taste in the mouth of the tradegy it brought

I agree sir. Just an excellent pace, intensity, and vibe - and as a hardcore Star Wars fan, it was a slight reassurance that somewhere someone in the mechanism that is the Star Wars franchise understands a little about what (imho) makes Star Wars so great. It could be argued that the film missed the mark - but the trailer seems to know what we wanted to see.

Barring their Spidey movies (because Sony does _not_ know how to advertise apparently) everytime they release a trailer I am feel giddy. But nothing will *_EVER_* top the Super Smash Bros. Rise of Skywalker trailer was pretty good. The line "No one's ever truly gone" will always hit me in the feels (Not to mention it was referencing Luke saying the same thing in TLJ), and that coupled with the ominous laugh of Emperor Palpatine put the line on a whole new level. I feel like almost any Star Wars trailer is an instant masterpiece to be honest...

  • @Olderaccount17

I think the trailer campaign for The Force Awakens (all 3 trailers) was MASTERFULLY done. -They didn't spoil anything. Not even Luke Skywalker's story. -They let us know from the get go the main characters were new, instead of trying to trick us into thinking the OT characters were going to be the focus -The music was used perfectly -They even used some lines that were also a message for us fans ("There has been an awakening"="After 10 years, Star Wars is BACK", "It's true. All of it. = Everything we saw on these movies 40 years ago is still relevant in the world") I really REALLY have to thank Disney for the amazing marketing campaign they're doing for this trilogy. It really transforms all the waiting into a part of the experience as well, it doesn't just last the two hours you see the movie.

@Snehil Shrey Ragnarok is exactly what it tried to be. It was a comedy. It had a few compelling moments, and had a story, but mainly it was a comedy. The problem with Age of Ultron was that it tried to have its cake and eat it too. It tried to treat Ultron as a massive, and serious threat, but when the heartless killing machine is making egg puns every few minutes, it takes down that feeling. The difference is mainly in what they tried to be. Ragnarok is a good comedy movie, but Age of Ultron is too scared to go too far into any genre.

What are your thoughts on the "Dunkirk" main trailer? It does use two sections of words but it is trying to briefly explain the premise to those that have no idea of the real-life events (both in the UK and especially abroad). From reactions I've seen, many viewers have no idea what it's about :)

You had no idea what the film is about because you don't know history. As soon as I saw the title after the trailer, I knew I don't want to watch another movie about ordinary-man heroism. You picked some fantastic trailers to dissect. Some of my favorites include: 1. The Social Network - Waiting nearly an entire minute to show actual footage from the film was bold and got me hooked (same as the teaser poster was utterly devoid of everything but Jesse Eisenberg's face and a dozen words. I couldn't get it out of my head for days). So much is left to the imagination despite the dialogue and the cover of "Creep" is a perfect pairing. One of my favorite movies. 2. Man of Steel (1st teaser) - The dialogue paired with the music and little footage from the film made me begin to care about Superman. Couldn't really care less about it now, but it was super effective following The Dark Knight Rises 3. Suicide Squad - Talk about an amazing trailer for an otherwise sucky movie. Bohemian Rhapsody was the perfect pairing for the trailer footage. If only the rest of the film had been as good.

I've seen a lot of trailers and one in particular is not even "best trailer I've ever seen", but really settled in my memory due to number of things. It aired first on E3 event - it was "The Crew - Coast to Coast Trailer". I don't know how to put it in words exactly, but everything "clicked" for me in this 2min video. It showed a very good premise - you can drive from coast to coast of virtual representation of USA, never as freely as before. Choice of music - spot on - good trailer music is something you probably never heard and immediately want to find. Showing multiplayer capabilities at the end was a cherry on top. Really stood out from the typical trailers, especially today with this weird formula many studios push. Unfortunately The Crew never lived up to this trailer and hype, but it's still a very good game if you want to relax. Couple years later I had hardware capable of running it, I set the route from Los Angeles to Miami and drove with my own playlist. Through all seasons and all landscapes. Yeah, realistic or not, it was a great little experience that I cherish.

It is so beautifully crafted that it influenced me to watch the film when it was release. It remains as one of my favorite films of all time -- and that is a list that I rarely update) - Star Wars Trailers (the final products themselves have been a bit underwhelming, but the marketing is phenomenal) - DC Extended Universe Trailers (DC's recent films have not been fantastic, but each trailer is so wonderfully crafted and edited that I can't help but feel pumped) - Logan Teaser Trailer - Mad Max Fury Road Trailers (The editing, score, and cinematography for the trailer and the film itself is outstanding.)

Here from the future. My contribution is the 2021 Game Awards trailer for Elden Ring, probably the best cinematic story trailer a game has ever had. It came like two months before the game's release, at which point everyone had already seen gameplay, so its job was to deliver one final push of excitement and get players asking questions. It's shot gorgeously, uses incredible animation, has lore narrated by one of the characters, depicts incredible action choreography and sweeping scenes, and caps it off with simply impeccable music throughout. It doesn't tell you very much about the plot that you'll experience, but it presents a world that exists outside of your interactions with it, which is Elden Ring's biggest selling point. It's a difference that would make it a bad movie trailer, but a pristine game trailer.

Then one time on a plane ride, I happened to watch Civil War just cause they had it. I loved it (don't @ me I know how you feel about it Cosmonaut) and I thought maybe I might like these Marvel movies that I didn't have much interest in before. Then the Infinity War trailer came out...oh my gosh. My mind was blown, it looked so insane and nuts, so much crazy stuff happening, awesome heroes, an extremely menacing villain. I loved it. After that, I watched all the MCU movies in a couple months, and then saw Infinity War release day. With the creepy music playing and seeing all the avengers beat up and also frightened of what they’re facing. You see Thor stumbling around unsure of where to go, you see hulk in that blanket scared out of his mind. It gives you a taste of the struggle our seemingly invincible heroes are going through on a psychological level, not a physical one. It doesn’t reveal the plot, gives you a taste of the villain. You also get the sense that this movie is going to have a drastically different tone than the previous avengers film. Even though the movie wasn’t great, this trailer got me hyped from the day it came out.

My favorite is probably the Godzilla trailer. It reveals very little, shows a visually intriguing intro (the Halo Jump, which ended up being my favorite scene) and obviously that Godzilla screech. The bad part i would say is that it doesn't have music and just relies on that army guy talking. Link to it here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/g55_sZNpmK7aido.html

Okay but you should absolutely see How to Train your Dragon 2. There are surprises not mentioned in the trailer. One of my friends actually spoiled one of them and I - being the 14-year old dick that I was - made him write a letter by way of apology.

Right? I actually watched this video essay because I wanted to reedit HTTYD2's trailer specifically. I love that movie, but the trailer did a MAJOR disservice by spoiling the Hiccup's mom reveal. (It's no wonder it was the first example of how not to do a trailer.)

My absolute favorite trailers have to be at least the trailers for both Star Wars TFA and TLJ, but for different reasons. With TFA I was absolutely pumped with all the nostalgia that it gave off, whereas with TLJ I was more impressed with the trailer itself, in this case mostly it's darker tone, as I am a sucker for a bit Darker scifi or Fantsy movies. Besides that there are a few obvious ones like for example the Logan trailer and the one for Rogue one, as well as a lot of other trailers released in the last few years. I think the most important distinction I make in how I appreciate trailers is the difference between Nostalgia or the hype for a sequel and a trailer just being damn good. Even better when both hopes are met.

Coming back to this a few years later: The RWBY trailers consistently keep me invested every single time I go back to them, and I can't help but fall down that rabbit hole when I start one. Though considering their length, would they actually be trailers or more like actual episodes, or like anime OVA's?

I always loved how vague the trailer for Treasure Planet was. It had an epic feel and beautiful visuals. I'll always love the scene where he was solar surfing.

You know... I probably will NEVER be able to understand people who don't like spoilers. They make me more interested in it more than anything. Like he used for How To Train Your Dragon 2 trailer which showed the mom being alive, if I had seen the first movie and loved it, I would've reacted WAY differently. More like, "OH MY GOD, his mom is ALIVE! Damn! I gotta go see this movie!" So... yeah... I don't get you and his problem with spoilers. And maybe never will.

3 of my favorite trailers all stand out because of the music choice 1 - Mad Max Fury Road teaser trailer set to Guiseppe Verdi - Dies Irae 2 - X-Men Days of Future Past exclusive trailer set to John Murphy - Adagio in D Minor 3 - Logan official trailer set to Johnny Cash - Hurt

I don't know if you're still reading these comments... but if you are, here are my favourite trailers - Star wars the force awakens - I'm so glad you included it, it's fucking amazing, it channelled the wonder of the OT with a modern sheen so hard - cloud atlas - the extended 5 minute trailer. Maybe I'm biased, I loved the book and the movie too. But the use of music and editing always makes me shed a tear and send chills up my spine. Masterpiece. - sucker punch. Again, the editing and music was magnificently done and it sold the concept of the movie so fucking hard. And as a Brucie bonus, my favourite game trailer - - god of war 3. Spinetingling.
