Just seeing how massive and how strong the Red Ribbon Army is in terms of firepower and military personnel, they really are the first ever big threat of Dragon Ball.

I would have said that pilaf was the first consequence Goku has made an enemy of, but that honor goes to red ribbon army due to their sheer persistence. They are the first enemy to shift the tone away from light hearted to a domino effect of tragedy and morale.

Plus, Pilaf becomes a Goku ally eventually just like everyone else except Frieza. Even the remnants of the Red Ribbon Army became Goku allies.

Yeah the anime's introduction into the Red Ribbon Army Arc is way better than manga version its kinda treated as mostly a joke and did not come off as nearly as threatening. Here with the added filler it feels a lot more demanding with their presence. Not to mention more connective between plotlines here. Leaving a greater impression and impact. Yes Goku is strong, but to everyone else they are scary. Which makes all the more satisfying to when they do get taken down.

The manga seems to make Silver more of a thug. So, I appreciate the anime in making him more interesting and menacing even if ultimately he’s no match for Goku.

It's one of the things I love about the anime adaptation of dragon ball, they utilised the filler really well. Unfortunately they weren't as good with the filler in z.

Fun fact: the red ribbon army left a massive impact on the dragon ball franchise as it it lead to the cell saga in dragon ball Z and the zamasu arc in dragon ball super along with the dragon ball super hero movie where the newly revived red ribbon army appears trying to take down the Z warriors

Another fun fact: The Red Ribbon Army was influenced by the Red Army of the Soviet Union.

I really do like how efficient they portrayed the RR Army.

I was waiting for the moment where you realized who the new villains were XD "Only thing I don't like is ChiChi's fit" To me it's arguably the best outfit she ever had. She was never as cool without her Ultra 7 helmet. "For the 80s, damn it looks good" XD well that's just how animation is in any era. It's literally whatever the animator can draw. Time doesn't affect that. Just so you know Z also started in the 80s. Dragon Ball and Z are essentially just one long show with a name change part of the way through. In the Gameboy Advance game from the Buu Saga (the end of Z) you can actually encounter Pilaf and his forces in it as one of the kids.
