    I'm a full time acoustic soloist. Everything from Arlo Guthrie to 311. I have an A6 Denim Blue Flame and I do use a TC Electronic BodyRez pedal (which, or an equivalent, is a MUST for any transducer guitar) to give body to the transducer. It's hard to get a "working man's" tone from this instrument. If I were a jazz man or a big band guy, it would be simpler. Warm and clean or warmer and soft. But I need to go from strum to lead instantly. I have a Taylor T5 Custom, a Guild S7CE Peregrine, and have used a Crafter SA in the past as well. They are all more gig friendly right out of the box. All three of them are very forgiving. Not the A6 (The crafter SA was the best of the bunch as far as flexibility but I sold it). I need flexibility. IT's not practical to make these kind of adjustments on the fly ON the instrument. Here's my setting that works for me: First off, the OEM humbucker is WAAAAY too big and boomy for this guitar. It's the biggest design flaw in my opinion. A 20k or less HB would have been AWESOME. I buried it down in the body as deeply as I could, with the high side slightly higher. My "on guitar" settings: Humbucker: Bass all the way down, treble all the way up. Volume at about 65% Piezo: Bass at 37%, treble at 40%, mids at about 60%, and volume at max. On my mixer I have the bass at 11 and the treble at about 12:30. I turn the TC BodyRez pedal off when soloing. It reduces compression and brings back some of the mids and gives a different voice which you want. This guitar can be terrible or awesome, but the settings are crucial, and the good sounds are counter intuitive on the controls to what one would think reasonable. Those crazy Canadians. :/

    Have been looking at the A6 for a while now. I would like to find one to play before going ahead and ordering one. I wish they would have done away with the pins in the bridge, just by sliding the strings through the bridge like Ovations do. Much easier than dealing with the pins when changing strings quickly. Very nice demo video. Thank you.

    Hi Dennis, I know what you mean about the design of the ovations. I'm not much into bridge pins myself as it isn't so quick to change strings. But the sounds of the A6 are usable, and extremely versatile. Top notch sound quality too. I hope that you can get to play one soon. Let me know what you think of them when you've had a schwang on one! Best regards, Dale Harris

    Great Review. I’ve just bought one of these more out of curiosity than anything else as I’m an acoustic player but have never quite been comfortable playing electric. So this seemed to me a route I needed to take and I’m glad I did. It doesn’t replace the acoustic and certainly doesn’t have that richness and growl that any of my Gibson’s have but it certainly suggests it is an acoustic and the option to blend the piezo with the humbucker is exactly as described here and gives a really nice balance. It’s something I needed to get my head around but once you’ve adjusted to the idea it the becomes a really interesting guitar that offers tones and shimmers that are quite beautiful. The biggest thing for me is the strings and the tuners. The top E and bottom E can be either bass or treble heavy and you need some tweaking with the controls for each pick up to get the balance right across the board. I find the tuners a little flimsy and would like to swap these out with.Grover mini or something from Klusson. Does anyone know if these tuners will fit in without having to change the size of the holes or can tell me what size would slot straight in. Would be much appreciated.

  • @EverythingGuitar23

    @EverythingGuitar23

    3 жыл бұрын

    hi, thanks for the comment. Regarding strings, it can be good to try going slightly heavier 1st and perhaps second string: thicker by 0.001. A compressor pedal (set to very light and almost indistinguishable compression) can help to even out any remaining imbalances. I replaced my tuners. Just unscrew and measure the diameter of the hole with a micrometer or similar. It's like likely to be an imperial measurement rather than metric. Then simply look at the specs of your chosen tuners. Holes can be reamed wider but obviously don't buy anything to slim for the slot. Best regards, Dale Harris

    @@chrischoi1441 Hi Chris. Congrats on getting the guitar. These guitars are going up in price and 2nd hand are now selling for around £700. But I’m a left handed so I have very little to choose from. But I think they’re still great value. My action was a little high and I gently adjusted the trust rod which was a lot easier than I thought. I adjusted it a little too low and took it slightly back up again and very pleased how this worked out. So might be worth trying that before shaving the saddle? It’s definitely strange adjusting to a different type of string as I’m used to acoustic phosphor bronze. I just ordered some d’addario nickel wound with a wound G from Amazon. Not tried them yet but will do soon. I emailed Godin about tuners they said most tuners with a 10mm should fit straight in. Let me know how you get on with the Zebras.

  • @EverythingGuitar23

    I'm writing this from memory: There are two modes though,MONO (and that's what you're referring to as it's actually a TRS connection that sums both pickups ) and there's STEREO where both pickups are split to the two individual sockets. Is that how you understand it to be? I took my A6 to a gig over the summer and completely forgot which socket was which and I had humbucker only. The other socket is combi, and the humbucker is cut off from the combi socket when using both outputs thus giving transducer only. Best regards, Dale Harris

    Did you have to make any adjustments, truss/neck, nut and bridge, when switching to such light gauge strings. My A6 came with factory 12’s. Practically bridge cables. I’ve switched to 11’s without any adjustments and I’d like to go even lighter

  • @EverythingGuitar23

    @EverythingGuitar23

    Hi Catherine, if you are happy to check the relief, I would always advise doing so as the neck can move. If you are unfamiliar with this, then measuring relief only requires a capo plus some feeler gauges, and the manufacturers recommended specifications, or chosing comparible ones that you can adapt to your own taste. If you are going to say 10s or 9s from the original setup of 12s then for sure, the trussrod may need an adjustment by a quarter turn or thereabouts. A set of 9s can be quite nice, but try out the trick of going very slightly heavier on strings 1 and possibly 2. Thanks for watching! All the best, Dale

    Hi Edin, the battery powers the internal pre-amp. It lasts a fair while and doesn't have much of a high-power consumption.
