There is a very small and remote town in the province of Quebec called La Patrie. It has a population of ~200. Everyone living there works for Godin building acoustic guitars. Their wood comes from nearby which is why they can keep the cost-competitive. Godin makes the best quality, best sounding, low-cost acoustic guitars on the planet IMO, usually under brand names like Seagull, Godin, Norman, Simon & Patrick, etc.. Learned to play on a Norman B20 Dreadnought I still have and it sounds amazing. The action of their guitars at the nut is a bit high when shipped from the factory but easily fixed with some filing.

Godin makes brilliant guitars anyone can afford. They're a true credit to the industry. Also, as a Canadian, I'd like to say thank you for actually pronouncing "Godin" correctly.

Funny thing. I was trying to find one in a store in the Philly area. Kept calling stores pronounced the name correctly. Nobody knew what I was saying unless I asked for "GODin or Goh-din" Finally I'm calling the last dealer in the area. They were in a blue collar neighborhood so I figured their French accents weren't going to be very good. "Do you carry Goh-dins," I asked. "Sir, it's pronounced go-DAN." Gee, did the other guys call to warn you? Let's make this guy feel like an idiot!

Richard great little shop you have there. Love the demo, Love Godin guitars. Even acoustically it sounds very full and jangly. Godin constantly #innovate which Gibson stopped doing in the early 60’s. I am looking for a baritone A6 but will need to sell my Seagull S6 which I love but my shoulder hurts when I play, which is exacerbated when I play so often on the couch, that really is a killer issue for guitar players. I have an LGX which is great for gigging with the piezo. They constantly experiment, look at the Glissentar , the INuk, what do Gibson give us ? The e-tuner which no-one wants and overpriced under finished guitars. Go Go Go Godin.

Thank you for this, Richard, from one of your Canadian viewers. I am strongly considering one of these mostly for home and playing at church where I think its versatility would be a plus. Since I don't want to lug two different amps around, I would probably play it through my Boss Katana 50. Do you think something like that would be up to the job?

so I'm coming back around to the A6 but curious if the A6 ultra or the Multiac steel with the lipstick pickup sounds better from a purely plugged in acoustic sound? Kinda disappointed that it seems like Godin discontinued the Multiac steel. Is there any difference between the neck of the two guitars (besides the A6 being satin finish vs gloss on the multiac)?

I really enjoy your reviews. I owned one these for a couple years but never liked the humbucker in it. What I should have done was replace it because I miss it. It's a better guitar than the Taylor T5 for achieving authentic acoustic tones. I owned 3 different T5's and sold them all.

THIS GODIN REVIEW is excellent; No issue wrt the versatility of this Guitar - Godin's quality control is 2nd to none - and uses the highest quality Canadin Tone woods - primarily outstanding Quebec Spruce (superior to U.S. aDIRONDACK!), Canadian Hardrock Maple, Spanish Finest Luthier (think JOSE' RAMIREZ!) Cedar!, Canadian Cherrywood, and the highest quality, densest Canadian Basswood (a totally toneful, more solid/denser by far than Asian bass wood for Asian guitars - yet still amazingly lighter and stronger! - SO! GODIN IT IS! THANKYOU FOR TOUR INTELLIGENT REVIEW!! NOW, I am on the way out the door - to go pick up a rare GODIN SEAGULL A6 ULTRA in NATURAL FINIISH! - the SEAGULL (which is another GODIN line, with ALL the SAME QUALITIES, FEATURES, & HARDWAR UPGRADES! @@antonio.lovric Inace, radim sam. I to u neznatnim vrijednosima. Tu definitivno pomazu graphtech Nuts.

Thanks for the Demo Richard, it's an amazingly versatile guitar, looking forward to owning one soon. Are the strings electric or acoustic? I'm guessing it's electric as acoustic strings wouldn't work with the magnetic pick up, or is it something custom that wouldn't be easily available, but with Godin? Please do share.

they are great guitars..infact most Godins are. I did find it hard to play and I was nt mad on either the acoustic or electric sound but it is never the lkess a highly desirable guitar and excellent value for money. I also got confused on all the Godin switches and settings. I think they would take some fiddling and getting used to and could do with a new design for effective live work. But I still give em all 9 out of ten. Great video too. Very informative and useful information. I am using a Yamaha silent guitar for electro acoustic and I am very pleased indeed with it.

If you wanted one guitar that would perform well as electric and acoustic, what would it be. I have a TaylorT5 and it’s the best compromise I’ve tried. I had a Godin LGX which was a great electric, but piezo wasn’t convincing. I’ve tried th A6 and it’s a decent acoustic. Is there anything else out there?

A little bit yes, but it’s a misconception that an acoustic guitars sound comes from the hole. The sound actually comes mostly from the vibration of the top.

Very versatile. Does the neck pickup thin out with eq. So its more like a mid or bridge pickup. Often an acoustic doesnt cut through with a band. I think this would. Two mutes or tuners can mute each output and go to your effects and amps for ac and electric. Nice

Neal Smith-Amies I have this in black. It’s gorgeous and uses a Richlite fretboard which I find excellent. Only tough bit is the neck pup. It’s a bit woolly sounding but yet has microphonic noises as though the pup wasn’t wax potted. However, it is awesome and I use it as my live acoustic all the time. I run the neck out to an electric pedalboard and amp and run the acoustic out to the soundboard via a Fishman Aura DI. Fabulous and flexible. I may try another pickup in the neck at some point.

@@markbarto My understanding is that the Michael Kelly is more "electric" vs. "acoustic" whereas the Godin is the opposite. Obviously I don't know this but the Godin definitely DOES sound like a nice ovation or similar, plugged in. I just had a p rail with triple shot ring installed so I get more tones from the humbucker (6 distinct sounds vs. just the one Godin humbucker sound). MKHS is on my "maybe list" though! How do you like yours?

whats the point of dual outs when you just turn off the volume of the electric to get acoustic out only and visa versa. They miss the boat not keeping the RMC 13 pin plug installed.

I think the point is that you can blend both the acoustic and electrics and use 2 different amps to get a bigger sound.

That guitar looks amazing! Great review! I don't need another guitar but I'm really thinking about buying this based on this brilliant review! I'm purely an acoustic player and sometimes I feel that the single notes I play get lost with just the undersaddle pickup, I think this may help that!

@richards guitars do you have that exact model and finish in stock? Does it sound just as good going into one amp ie a PA system rather than split between two amps? Cheers

Marquinhos Vini_Cantor I’ve recently switched to flat wound 11-48 jazz electric strings and its glorious. Essentially it makes the electric tone crisper and the acoustic sound warmer.

The A6 Ultra is a truly amazing guitar. The build quality and tonal possibilities are amazing. Taylor does a similar thing with the T5, but I think the A6 sounds LOADS better. The ONLY thing I wish Godin would do is offer a version with a bridge humbucker as well. Now THAT would be the ultimate, be all, end all stage guitar.

Godin / seagull guitars are by far the best unheard of guitars. Most people gravitate towards the most well known brand names. If you have never picked up a godin or segull I highly recommend it.
