Now that is a review! Thank you friend - really well done! I think it is the A6 for me, way closer to a quality acoustic and the EQ gives so many options. However, this is the first video where the Fender got my attention. It just does it’s own thing - has it’s own tone, especially acoustically. There were parts I heard that I just stopped and thought - “Oh, I like that!” Still, the Godin is more versatile for my needs. For the plugged in "acoustic" sound, the Godin wins, hands down. The Fender takes it on the electric sound mainly because of pickup placement. But I think Godin sacrificed the bridge magnetic precisely to concentrate on that plugged in acoustic tone. I own a Godin A6U and was considering the Fender as a back up guitar for my acoustic act. Had decided against it; this video validates that decision.

I have looked at Fender Acoustasonic Telecaster, and after hearing these comparisons, I think I have decided on the Fender. Thanks for the thorough comparison. It seems to me that the Godin is designed to sound more like an acoustic that can do some electric tones. Where as the Fender is designed to be a good electric with some acoustic tones. I think, the choice would come down to which tone you'd tend to play in the most. For me, it'd be the Godin.

  • @SymoneJem

Yes, the godin sounds more like an amplified acoustic with a piezo, the humbucker can be blended with the acoustic sound ad gives it a little more "body". Btw, the fender is a little strange used like an electric, first for the acoustic strings and then because the single coil over reacts to distortion, it sounds nothing like a regular tele. I agree with you , Godin wins for what are my needs

Great video. I've had my A6 for several years and play it mostly acoustic through an Ibanez Troubadour amp. I do use the humbucker for soloing so I have electric strings on it. Seems to respond better that way. With the bronze wound there was a definite volume difference on the wound strings. I also stick with a wound third because of how the bridge is compensated.

I had each of the Godin guitars for over a year. The Godin to me sounded better with just a little bit of the electric pickup blended in. The humbucker is really too strong in the bass tones.

I've had the Acoustasonic Tele for a year and a half now. The benefit to me as predominantly electric Telecaster player is that when I want an acoustic sound on stage, it still feels like playing a Tele (except lighter of course!), but live, the range of tones you can get out of the Acoustasonic is brilliant. Didn't like the Godin at all when I tried it, I thought it sounded thin and brittle compared to the Fender. I played a festival at the weekend and through a large PA the Acoustasonic sounded fantastic, all the tone you'd want for picked acoustic sounds and immense tone when rocking out with it still in acoustic mode. I've had no regrets buying it and it has become a valuable part of my guitar collection. I tend to use it as an acoustic, because I normally have two or three Telecasters with me if I want a true Tele sound.

Hi Lance, thanks for your comment! The A6 is a very good instrument, that is worth the price it sells for. The Acoustasonic is very appealing , the look is very good, but in my opinion it has too much issues to be a reliable instrument. About the intonation, guitars are imperfect instruments, btw if a guitar has good frets, a good setup and fairly comfortable action , intonation is usually accettable. Hi Symone - thanks for all the work you've put into this vid. I've got an Acoustasconic that I bought early in 2019, a bit of an impulse buy. The idea is great, and I've been able to record some wonderful stuff on it, but! I'm a leftie player who's always played LH guitars and changed the nut and saddle, or adjusted the bridge if electric (by a really good luthier) and this Fender just can't be adapted like that (I've spoke to Fender at length on the issue and it's a no-way jose - the electronics just won't work properly if you fuck about with the saddle). So having said how much I like the acoustic tones I can get (I'm much more an acoustic player than electric) I've finally given up as the controls are always in the way - so I play lead on it or nothing. I've been looking at the Godin A6 ultra - and then chanced on your vid! It's convinced me the Fender is best for acoustic tone and the Godin for electric (the Godin I'm sure can be adapted if I buy a leftie - might have to buy direct from Canada (I'm in London UK)). I think a lot can be done with fine tuning the settings, but I have to admit I know really don't know what to do!

Hi Jonathan, thanks for your kind words! You can easily find a brand new Godin A6 ultra or even a regular A6 (if you don't need magnetic pickup) here in Europe both from Thomann and Strumentimusicali.net. About the acoustic tone, i can tell you about my experience. The godin sounds very similar to an amplified acoustic guitar equipped with a regular piezo. I have a martin d28 equipped with a K&K piezo passive system, and i compared the godin and the martin both plugged into an SR TECHNOLOGY JAM 250 Wood , an astonishing good acoustic amplifier. Well , the godin sounded better. compared with the Acoustasonic, the godin wins about playability, the electronic is way simplier and reliable than the one on the acoustasonic, and you can adjust the eq on the fly. Plus you have separate outputs for the acoustic and electric tones , so you can process them properly without a line selector to split the two signals. And it is cheaper , on reverb and mercatinomusicale.com there is plenty of right handed , second handed A6 ultra.

@@SymoneJem Hi Symone. I did buy a new right handed one but didn't keep it as the cutaway on the low E isn't enough, especially with the guitar strap taking the useable area to the 12th fret. Luckily (as lefty ones aren't in stock in the UK) I found a 2nd hand one, 5 years old (so the older neck and bridge - it has a rosewood fingerboard and bridge). Had to get it adjusted for my weird way of playing by a luthier, with a new bone saddle and nut. Ended up with two saddles - one for a wound acoustic G and one for an electric set with a compensated G for the plain string (and saddle heights have to be a bit different as you'd expect). Still can't decide whether I prefer acoustic or electric strings on it. But I really like the guitar - fine neck, and much better, in my opinion, for getting a good range of sounds and tones and the acoustic/electric blend. So selling my Acoustasonic now - the only thing I'll really miss is the centre setting on it where it uses the built in mic. Your video has been very helpful. The humbucker in the neck position seems to collaborate very well when blended with the acoustic sound, otherwise, unless you play jazz music, i find it a little useless. Especially when played with overdriven sound tends to become muddy . If the Godin had the humbucker in the bridge position it would become the real major competitor of the acoustasonic. you would play litterally everything with it.

I'm a full time professional acoustic soloist. I have a Guild S7CE Peregrine, a Taylor T5 Custom, and a Godin A6 Ultra denim blue flame, among 14 other instruments. I use a TC Electronic BodyRez pedal to liven the transducers on all three. A good friend who recently passed away had a "Acoustasonic Stratocaster". I hated it. It was compressed, and there's a weird latency with the digital modeling built into it's circuitry. And it looked like something from a cartoon, not a serious instrument. The Godin is superior in every way. The humbucker is way too hot to blend well, but if you bury it deep (low strings the deepest) it does better. Install a clean 20K or less pickup and you can really get it going. The Godin is made by REAL luthiers with the finest woods (they do not abide "green" principles and actually give you GOOD wood). and the craftsmanship is obvious. The Fender is made largely by low income local minorities in CA. The video of the factory will tell you what you need to know. Not that they cannot make a decent product, but they will not object to a substandard instrument leaving the line. They are EMPLOYEES, not LUTHIERS. These two guitars are not even in the same caliber. Godin, hands down.

Thanks for your comment, mate! I don't feel the latency you mentioned, but i am not a professional musician... About the wood quality i totally agree with you, Godin is far better. And most important to me, the Godin is a reliable instrument, i can't say the same for the Acoustasonic.

@@jefferywhidby2407 apart from battery life, it's the the type of battery that i am concerned about... you can always bring a spare 9v battery and finisch the gig with a Godin... some times the lithium battery on the Acoustasonic leaves you without sound and even if you can play while recharging, if it dies you need a spare guitar.

@@jefferywhidby2407 the American Acoustasonic uses a lithium battery made by Fishman, it is not easy to find and it is not immediate to swap. With the Mexican version the changed the circuit , it not have the body sensor e most important they use standard 9v battery like the Godin a6 ultra does

Brilliant comparison video and great playing. Love both, but I play thro 2 amps stereo, do it thro stereo effects, a parker fly thro an acoustic amp and a valve amp, so, I want a Godin A6, I love that piezo sound, check out Joni Mitchell's Parker playing. Thanx for your time and patience.

Thank you Rupert 😊. Forte the way that your rig is set up the Godin is perfect, it already has dedicated outputs for piezo and magnetic pickups. I know the Parker and I really like it, i love piezo equipped electric guitars in general. I will definitely check Joni's playing!

The Fender does seem to rock out a little better, but of course that isn't the primary reason to buy either of these. Nice comparison.

Thanks man :). I have very little hands and the neck of the godin is a little flatter on the back, personally i find it a little more comfortable. Sincerely I don't like a lot both pickups blended together, the sound is not acoustic nor electric... i like to have both but separated, that's why i didn't compare them. but it is an idea i can take in account in the future... thanks for the idea.

Thanks for the work you did to set this up. I'm wondering what the godin sounds like to thump the body to loop by for bass drum. I use a taylor 814 in a solo acoustic show and get great response from thumping the saddle for bass drum sound but cannot get the tone for driving leads due to feedback because of body design. Since you own a godin could you help me with this. Lookup holden bare mrs robinson on youtube and you will understand.

Hi Holden, i will try and then i'll let you know. Usually in order to get the sound that you want to get you need a body sensor, that the godin does not have. And hitting the saddles usually generates a very loud noise... We will see

Well done my friend. Also, nice playing. To my ears, the Godin has a brighter, richer tone. The Fender is more mellow and well, is has that Fender sound. I think the pickup location has a lot to do with it. And which one did you like playing?

thanks my friend :). I personally find the Godin more playable , first because seems to get along well with electric string ( so i can do bendigs more easily), and also for the action that is way more comfortable.

Very different guitars in my opinion. unplugged sound in good in both of them although I strongly prefer the fender flavor. On acoustic tones i tend to prefer the fender tone as well, because it has more medium punch and it sound less piezo than the godin. In the strings comparison I prefer the acoustic sound of the electric strings on both of them. I totally agree with you when you say that these guitars are not intended for heavy electric tones, indeed I don't like both but if I have to choose I think the fended does a better job probably because of the position of the pickup which is closer to the bridge. Even if in the solo the godin has a great sound. At minute 8 I see a nice JCM in the background so why you din't use that for the rock comparison??? :) I think you did a great job with this video and with the volume matchings.

thanks for you comment Enri. I agree with you about the medium punch of the acoustic fender tone (it is good to have it , but probably i would use a little mid cut , and i would brighten the sound a bit), but i find electric strings sounding too harsh in the acoustasonic for my taste. The electric sounds are a little bit strange on both of them , the fender seems voiced to play as an amplified electric guitar without the amp simulation to me, and the godin sounds a little more natural but reacts to distortion in an unnatural way. I used the strymon instead of the real amp just to make everything easier and faster :)
