The way esam was dodging those Nikita missiles was absolutely matchup experience, no way anyone can dance around that precisely without long hours of practice

As a Pikachu main that has decent snake matchup experience, I dont think you need that much in order to dodge the nikitas. Pikachu’s recovery allows him to just always stay away until he is safe to quick attack back. In other words if you have such a great recovery, you can just delay until you are in the clear and then recover against nikita. An example of a character that doesn’t have that luxury is wolf, once that nikita is out, wolf is at a risk of dying. Pika can go without a jump and literally still have options to avoid it so its more about just reacting to how the nikita is going and then doing something about it afterwards. But Esam does have great MU experience, he avoids that utilt like the plague and makes sure to be at a diagonal air range to snake so he disables grenades/any ground moves. Snake isnt known to have great mobility or great boxing aerials that go diagonally up, so itll be more of a commitment for snake to run in and do something. The tjolts only further that by making sure he doesn’t just pull grenade and camp (Im pretty sure pika can outcamp snake), and also discouraging grounded approaches. Its quite a surgerical matchup for pika since he has to be in that diagonal range why avoiding that huge utilt

Esam and MVD practice together all the time. MVD had take games and matchs of MKLeo with his snake before, so you can say that he has a really SOLID SNAKE. Esam know this match up.

These commentators were awesome the whole tourney, great sinergy between these three.

It’s messed up that pika gets center stage for free in virtually every MU. You can see Kola predicting these quick attacks from ledge but all he can do is shield and let Esam take center.

That's kind of always been Pika's specialty though. What's jacked up about Pika is backair and upair bridges. In backair's case, I'm not sure any other character in the game has an out of shield move that can string into death like Pika can.

It was very clean indeed, but like it was stylish to plan that, like it wasn’t as stylish as his skull bash kill earlier in the set, but still like what a last stock. And I understand how it’s an efficient kill cause a normal fair wouldn’t have been enough, but to utilize the stun of the fair to setup the dair spike is kinda style. Like game 5 of winners final, to guarantee 1st/2nd placement match. The nerves and excitement and yet he still had enough composure to not just rely on a simple fair and hope it kills while just keep stage control (easy option) but to still be able to think about fast falling through that fair to setup is to me “style”. But then again to everybody eyes it’s different. It depends how much you have played and watched. To esam who has probably practiced and preformed that move multiple times through multiple games, probably looks at it as efficient cause it’s nothing new to him.

We went from that to finally settling on "Yeah he's very good but also very hard to play without becoming overly predictable and it's wild that a character with this many options is anywhere from like 10-20 and not higher"

Does anyone know why Kola went Snake game 5? I feel like he could have won the set if he stuck with Roy so I'm kinda confused why he switched.

Roy doesn't do too hot on Lylat. I think jab loses some of its threat at ledge. And lylat is uncommon enough that ESAM mightve just had the leg up because of his experience in the scene

Lylat bad stage for Roy. But Snake is not that good too against Pika, I would stuck with Roy. Game 4/5 switch hardly works out for anyone.

Y'all back seat gaming. The snake switch by Kola was risky but he was putting up a good fight and got read hard.

Honestly any tournament Coney commentates at just jumps up in quality. He is such an entertainer and as MockRock once said, “of all of the smash KZreadrs, Coney is the one who could just walk up onto a stage and perform amazing stand up comedy.”

There was only 2 bans and there was three stages that Roy’s gets destroyed on against pika fd , kalos, and lylat probably banned fd and kalos and once esam picked lylat had to go snake cause Roy would get smacked on that stage

Kola honestly plays his secondaries a lot more than people realize, he's definitely put the time in with other characters like Snake and Cloud. I agree with the others it was prolly to go with the stage but he's def capable of getting results with them IMO.
