There seems to be some confusion on whether or not Kola would've won if that f-smash landed. It's actually pretty complicated, but I did make a video simulating the possibilities: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Zm18rrNqiqi_kcY.html

I've been watching Ultimate for some time now. I've always seen Leo as a different league. Like the way he would just beat every player with ease was insane. Its like he plays normally without trying. Then when he's down thats when he actually starts trying. I feel like it may be playing dumb on purpose to catch on to habits? Maybe its a strat. Regardless, his auto pilot mode surpasses others try hard mode. He's so good. Like he's lost but still the amount of consistency he's had. He is just human but he is insane at this game.

  • @zayvk114

I am in no sense of the word a pro player, but I think Leo really just plays a game of psychology. He always plays super basic and has normal flaws and timings with first game, the second game he tends to pick it up and by the third he shows his true colors. The first game he's letting Kola establish his play style, getting the data, and keeping his own completely secret. Kola came out quickly with his perfectly timed, aggressive combos. The second game Leo gets a little more aggressive trying to test Kola's strengths and possibly trying to get Kola to expose all of his mix ups. The third game, Leo decides Kolas standard play style is no longer going to work. Kola plays perfectly, which in this game is a flaw because Leo knows what he's going to do and the exact counter measures to stop those combos. There are dozens of moments like these such as when Kola killed with the jab - forward smash and later Leo perfectly air dodged. Naturally, towards end of the 3rd game and beginning of the 4th, Kola realized he couldn't do the same aggression and diverted to a respectfully defensive play style (which most players would do), but Leo preferred to chase and Roy can't really play defensively in the first place. Then Kola refuses to give data at the end of 4th. The 5th round he tries his own with timing with varying success until the last stock he plays to Leo's counterplay, to which Leo just reverts back to his normal timings. Diabolical stuff by Leo. I think Kola completely understands this and will be better prepared. The common thinking is that you HAVE to 3-0 Leo to win like Marss did (and Kola tried) but after Tweek's run Leo selects violence at the 2-0 mark. I'm not sure of what combination of games you need to have to beat this guy. Game 4 will never be yours because even if you refuse most data, you need to give up some of the best of your play style to get there for at least 2 gamez, otherwise Leo will 3-0 you. Not sure what the solution is here, but this is definitely what's going on in my mind.

It’s the same concept as someone tech rolling in past you there’s no bodyblocking there. It’s just game knowledge and awareness. Also, if Leo died from that people would’ve said he was robbed dying at 54% smh. Amazing set regardless between the two players. Kola looks like the best Roy right now for sure. Been rewatching a bunch of mkleo sets from glitch and riptide. I've been getting the impression he plays predominantly reaction based in the first 2 games with a healthy dose of set plays to suss the oppositions skill & timing. Then in the 3rd game onwards - particularly when down - he reduces the reaction based gameplay as he seems to have the timing and intent of the opposition down. That's why his opponents seem to struggle with punishes and the narrative can drift to them choking, when in reality mkleo massively fine tunes his timing and no longer shows indecision when picking options. No doubt this leads to the extended advantage states and pressure on opponents. Ofc, some top players such as tweak can force leo to take another game or two to suss them out. It is pretty rare though.

I feel like Leo leaves openings to learn his opponent in the first couple games. Once he has direct hands on experience with exactly what options the foe goes for, then he goes all out on countering them. Then, on top of that, he is able to adapt to his opponent even after they learn that Leo understands them. Mastercraft. Best player to ever play ultimate.
