You have to realize that DK is a heavy character, one of the slowest in the game. Pikachu is not, one of the faster characters. It takes tremendously more reading for DK to touch pikachu than the other way around. Obviously its balanced a little by the larger amount of percent DK's moves do, but really he's at the disadvantage, pikachu's stun times are way less.

It gets balanced because of Pikachu’s combos with a heavy because Pikachu can just keep DK in a combo. But DK does damage and can kill lightweights (Pikachu) early.

Asdf Gadsg this was the early days of ultimate. Because they remove sheild stun, parries were valued more than they deserved. If the exact same thing happened but more recently, the commentary wouldn’t have been so one sided

Look my guy dk was the underdog by a mile. Pikachu is a lot quicker than dk and could therefore get a lot of those quick combos in and deal 80% damage at once. Insane combos, sure, but Konga's plays were much more satisfying to watch, and definitely hypes up both commentators and the crowd lot more.

Daniel Fajardo tbf pikachu is high S tier and combos like that are seen a lot. A lot of these commentators tire of seeing pros abusing super fast high tier characters combos. Esam has been around for awhile and has pulled that stuff so much. Im sure if Konga keeps coming to tourneys and does the same thing over and over again, commentators will bore of it. And heavy characters are much more satisfying to watch because most are bottom tier. Landing those punches that have such meaning in them is super satisfying. but also, it's like they said. It's Konga's home turf. It would be weird to not cheer for him a little. And parrying with that proficiency is not easy. Especially those double parries.

If this isn't pretty annoying, "cheerleaders" and "commentators" are synonyms now on Smash community and I am very outdated; - They were in a TOURNAMENT, both Konga and Esam did they best with the characters they always picked before. Fairly they can. "Abuse super fast high tier characters combo" isn't a bad thing to do in a fighting game tournament for me, too, honestly. Esam did nothing to shame in that play. And this Pikachu isn't broken like "Smash 4 Bayo" or "Melee Fox" (even Pikachu was, whatever, it's a profissional match, dude). - Yeah, I really enjoy to see Konga countering Esam moves and stuff, this man is really a inspiration for my DK play, that was beautiful, but of us (and the commentators too) agree! This isn't his fault. Neither Esam was wrong. If it isn't satisfying you, welp. Sorry. I just think Smash community flaws to think tournament matches suit to entertain they in priority instead fair and nice competitivity.

Konga does 30% damage "Woooow insane damage!" ESAM does 70% in one combo streak right after....nope, nothing happened. Both players played really good but the commentators were way too over excited over DK. No need to be impressed every time someone parries a projectile, especially Pikachu projectiles which are not that fast. Also I think ESAM played best here, much better read and a much better adaptation to his opponent play.

Oh my goodness the commentators were so frustrating to listen to. Every time ESAM got a good hit in they'd just go "oh." and then go quiet, but every Konga smash would be met with screaming and hype. They both played extraordinarily well. Mad respect for ESAM for taking it against all that crowd cheering lol.

They are expected? When Faker gets a solo kill you don't ignore it, when Stewie gets 4 kills in a match you don't ignore it, etc. They are supposed to commentate and offer minimally biased reviews of the plays that happened and why they happened. Commentators are literally there primarily for, as you put it, noobs. No one gives a fuck about the tier list it is irrelevant when it comes to commentary, it is fine to give a bit more props to the underdog, but straight up ignoring commentating Esam, who lets be real had much more valuable commentary viable plays, to scream 'OH MY GOD DID YOU SEE HIM PARRY THAT SLOW MOVING PROJECTILE?!', is retarded and poor commentary. Shit like this is one of the big reasons everyone makes fun of the smash community, even other FGC commentary is far better.

Chill out bro. They're just impressed with Konga's ability to parry.

People have to remember that Konga was the clear underdog here. The matchup really isn’t in DK’s favor, so of course the commentators are going to be biased towards Konga. That being said, there should’ve been a little more recognition for some of the stuff Esam was pulling off here, especially around 18:30, that was nutty.

This commentary is just the smash community in general. People don’t care if your good at the game if you don’t play a low tier or a “sick” character. Yeah Pikachu is arguably the best character in the game and pretty campy when he needs to be, but that doesn’t mean that Esam deserves to be given any less praise than other PGR/ top players.

ESAM's play is really good, but except for his combo at 18:30 it just felt like what I'd expect from pro-level play. Kong is a serious underdog and watching him win, not by using crazy combos, but perfectly executing his basic bread-and-butter moves is really refreshing for heavy fans

Pikachu wins final match Commentators: Give it up for our boy Konga. Esam was working his butt off and I heard MAYBE 2 positive things said about him.

years late, but still comboing donkey kong is not hard and a donkey kong player gave esams Pikachu a run for his money

GimR is definitely the best when it comes to parries. He parries absolutely everything, I don't understand!

Why was everyone bias towards konga? I was rooting for esam the whole time.

The commentators trying to be hype over the Parries kind of kill it for me they are not that hard to do

Deadrocky he did not lose because of the parries, it’s plays a huge roll of not letting your shield getting eaten away and helps have something less to worry about. He was one stock away from winning, it came down to the matchup in the end props to both

Robert Wood at that high of a level and with the speed of pikachu and even the double parries he pulled off are not easy to pull off lmfao. The commentators were too hype IMO but those parries definitely took some skill

Does anyone have any tips on how to play against pikachu in this game? He always gives me problems whenever i go against a pikachu main

ESAM: intelligently combos the hell out of Konga Konga: Grab -> Jump Off Ledge -> Throw -> Consider myself gud g8mer -> be slightly salty about getting dunked on and losing regardless -> rush out of the stage

Cargo back throw instead of down throw THE MIXUP!!!

Guys, don't let the commentators distract you from how fucking sick this match was. Both players played beautifully: they kicked each other's asses with such amazing finesse and skill. Lovely

This matchup is hella hard for DK I know this being a Pikachu player and all, but does anyone know of how Konga could have dealt with Thunderjolt approach? It seems like he would just stay in shield in an attempt to parry it, but he would also drop shield as soon as ESAM got close. It seemed to be giving him a lot of trouble and I thought maybe Konga was anticipating a grab all those times.

At 10:58 Esam kills konga and they are still talking about how smart Konga played

@@TARINunit9 What? There's a total of 2 examples mentioned here of him doing this, despite them constantly complimenting ESAM. Just rewatch the video listening to nothing but the commentary and you'd realise that they are constantly complimenting ESAM's play, only stopping to yell about a flashy thing conga did or about something bad one of the players did. They hardly compliment conga on anything except the flashy stuff. Just because everyone in the comments is jumping on the bandwagon of saying this doesn't mean you need to also.

This was an amazing match and (disregarding the commentary) I see a lot of complaints on both characters. Match up didnt seem one sided at all.

1:18 knowing Esam can play like me sometimes gives me hope.

Its just a smash tradition, heavies are just so much more hype and exciting to watch played well compared to lights most of the time.

Honestly the more I watch this video, the more salty I get about how garbage and biased at least one of the commentators is.

I dont think this event had the serious factor to it that future events will proven by the lack of pro atendees and "pro" commentators. They were prob just on the commentary having fun i know vish and the other guy only do it occasionally

I’ve been trying to learn pikachu and the up b has been very frustrating at times with flubbed recovery. It’s good to see Edam missing that too. Well.. Maybe not so good

They didn't yell and get super hype about what he was doing cause most of what he was doing wasn't very flashy but they spent most of the commentary complementing ESAM and saying about how well he's playing and about how swell the last thing he did was. I get that everyone in the comment section is saying this one thing and so you get free likes for this but holy shit if you actually listened to the commentary and counted how much time they spent complimenting each player you'd realise this.
