Check out the Glenn Curtiss Museum in Hammondsport, NY if you find yourself in this area. It is off of beautiful Keuka Lake in the Finger Lakes Region of Western, NY. It's south of Rochester, NY and South East of Buffalo, NY. The museum has a bunch of beautiful old motorcycles, original aircraft and some reproductions of early Curtiss planes built to original specs. They are also restoring a P-40 at the museum for static display. Keuka Lake was the birth of American Naval Aviation.
If you ever make it to Miami Springs, Florida.. visit us at Curtiss Mansion, we renovated his mansion to its original glory. We give tours on Saturday’s 10-11 am.
Glenn Curtiss record of 136 mph in 1907 ,on Daytona Beach made him ,the FASTESTEST MAN ON EARTH ! He built the first v8 motorcycle n big enough balls to ride it ! He invented the aeroloins that are controlled with cables ,which are precise flight controls ,co.pared to the Wrights, wing warping ,concept that they won the patent court case over.
Many errors reported here; "June Bug" was NOT a water aircraft; One picture is of Anthony Fokker, etc.
Thank you for posting this. My wife and I are going to the Glenn Curtiss Museum today, and this video was a nice warm-up. I enjoyed it.
We salute to all aviation pioneers Wright bros Glenn curtiss Samuel Langley and Santos dummont such a good inspiration to all new generation inventors rest peace both
Thank you for presenting this impressive documentation. Please kindly note that the portrait starting from 1' 14'' does not depict GC. It shows young A. H. G. Fokker at the time of WWI. He used to hide his myopia by not wearing glasses, but one can recognize from the picture that his goggles have optical lenses.
01:13 That's actually Anthony Fokker
superb job
Excellent stuff
Bologna- The Wright flights on 12/17/1903 were witnessed by many. What are you implying?

The Wright brothers were approached for the prize of the mile flight, but they refused to fly scheduled public flights at that time. The fact that some people witnessed the first flight is not the point.

The Wright flights on 12/17/1903 were witnessed only by 5 persons (3 Lifeguards, a bussinesman and a little boy)
His speed record was a record for all types of vehicles.
Also the day before Glenn Curtis crashed his plane what he said is by giving it to much throttle the rest of that day and the hole night his crew had to rebuild the airplane for Curtis to fly it the next day
If speed could sell then he would be the richest man in the World - his bikes should have been like selling Ford cars - if Ford can build a car that wins races - then why not buy a Model T at the lowest price in the World. Without War this genius would have won the patent suits but war won them for him.
Wright brothers showed a catastrophic ability to fly only in 1908. They flew just 337 meters and the event was recorded by French experts.
It didn't take long for airplane designers to drop the canard in favor of the elevator. I think it is safe to say that 99.5% of all airplanes flying today have elevators and a handful have canards. Canards does not exists in nature; there are no birds, bats, flying squirrels, etc with canard so it is difficult to understand why the Wright brothers adapted canards for they airplanes.

markspc1 he put ailerons on his airplanes too.

Canards have several advantages over traditional wings/elevators. Both wings of the canard airplane produce positive lift unlike a traditional forward main wing/elevator design in which the tail produces down force (negative lift) which increases drag. Pitching up is accomplished by adding lift forward of the center of lift as opposed to reducing lift aft of the center of lift. When designed properly, Canards are more efficient, faster, and with potential shorter takeoff rolls.

@@Al-ud8qi Also the canard stalls first if you pull up too hard, resulting in a (quite harmless) nose drop, instead of a possibly unsymmetrical stall at the wing (resulting in a spin).
The Glenn curtis aviations's base. Alberto Santos Dumont.
I believe that this is incorrect that you have his mile flight taking off from water. I think that flight took off from land. The float plane came later.

Actually, the photo that follows the video clip is the actual airplane used in the record, not the seaplane.
That was entertaining, but a lot of your "facts" are wrong, the June Bug was not a seaplane at first. After winning the trophy, the aircraft was modified with floats and called the "Loon"!
Curtis copied many of the Wright plane designs. The only advantage Curtis had was his engine designs.

@@michelsaintcloud335 no, _you’re_ wrong. The Wrights successfully sued Glen Curtiss for patent infringement several times.

@@stevelangstroth5833 I'm not sure what you're referring to. Malcom said Glenn Curtis copied many of the Wright's designs. Saint Cloud said they didn't. I said indeed they did, and the Wright's successfully defended their patents. I don't dispute Curtis had innovations of his own, especially the OX engines, but as to the question: "did Glenn Curtis copy many of the Wright plane designs," the answer is "yes."

@@davidinflorida6814 Curtis invented the stepped hull flying boat. The Wrights never even tried designing, building, or testing any type of flying boat. Curtiss had 72 US Patents. The Wrights had...one? The Wrights successfully argued in court that the aileron was covered by their wing warping patent, HOWEVER....it turns out (we now know) that the aileron was invented by an Englishman in 1868. Wait?! What?! Yes, in 1868!!!! So, if the courts had known that 100 years ago, it would likely have ruled that the aileron AND wing warping patents were both invalid, because of this long expired aileron patent from 1868.
