Curtiss Mansion Historic Home - 1925 Miami Springs, FL
Ойын-сауық
Glenn Curtiss is one of the pioneers of aviation in America with a rich and colorful life and story! When Curtiss came to south Florida in the 1920s, after a long and distinguished career in aviation, he founded the cities of Miami Springs, Opa Locka, and Hialeah. In today's video I visit the home he built for himself and his family in 1925 and bring you along on a tour of the home and grounds to learn a bit about this fascinating figure and his connection to the history of aviation, motorcycles, and the founding of three cities in Miami, FL!

Inspired by loved ones who are first responders out there right now helping and by friends who are helping in many ways, including my friend Tampa Jay who includes a link to donate to the Red Cross hurricane relief fund in the pinned comment of his video this morning, I encourage everyone to send help however possible to those in Hurricane Michael’s path! There are many worthy organizations helping out, including the Red Cross, & here are more ways to help: www.google.com/amp/s/www.king5.com/amp/article%3fsection=news&subsection=local&headline=heres-how-to-help-those-impacted-by-hurricane-michael&contentId=281-602901737
Wow a great mansion there. Thank you so much for taking us along.

My pleasure, Tommy, and thank you for joining!!
I had heard of Curtiss planes but didn't know anything about him. Nice house & the scavenger hunt makes it more fun to explore.
That was such a fun tour! I love the gardens and those stairs outside!
Love historical stuff like this.
This was a very interesting Mr Curtiss shure got around !! Cool experience thax Jackie!👍✌🙂🇨🇦⚘
Such an awesome home! I didn't even realize that it was open to the public like that... For someone who probably will never make the trip specifically to see that, it was very cool to get the inside view. Nicely done!

Thank you my friend! It’s only open to the public one hour per week on the historic tour, Saturday mornings from 10-11am! Amazing place, so glad I could share it and thank you again!
Great video
That was cool! Thanks for sharing. Take care.
I grew up in Miami Springs and back in the 80s my friends and I use to hang out inside and have weekend parties....it was abandoned back then....sometimes the Springs cops would chase us out...it was hard to catch us with the golf course right there.....Danny..Eric...Robert...Louise....Tracey...Patricia and many others.Great times back then
Wow! Looks like Glen had his hand in everything. From the picture it looks like he rode the motorcycle on the beach.

Good eye, Tony!!! The tour was over an hour long and we talked for a while afterwards, so I couldn't possibly include all the cool things - but indeed, apparently in the 1920s here in south Florida, they used to race on the sand, on the beach!
So AWESOME! Great Work! Stoppin in to show love 👍👍👍
Awesome tour of such an awesome place! Once again showing us Miamians the gems that are right under our noses!! :D
Hey Jackie. It's was amazing riding with you yesterday on UBER. No doubt, my best ride in UBER career. I wish you the best on your youtuber project. Hope to ride with u again. God bless you.

There were actually quite a lot of people on the tour, but I did my best to film around them, and then go back and film more afterwards when it was quiet and empty! I try to be respectful of strangers and not film them if I can help it - can you imagine ending up on KZread when you didn't expect it? hehe!! Thanks so much for watching, Andy and Amy!!!
I love fun things like that staircase and secret garden fantastic love things like this 😚

Great tour!! I love learning about stuff I’d probably never know unless videos like this get made! Thank you for this! ❤️
There are so many places to see in Miami that my little short trip this past weekend showed me. And I didn’t know about this place. Thanks for showing this place, Jackie. I will definitely have to make another trip to Miami to take in more sites.

Thank you, brother Catfish, I'm so glad you enjoyed! There was SO MUCH more I couldn't include for the sake of not making this video over an hour long, but Glenn Curtiss lived a fascinating life!! Secret stairwell, secret garden!!! I can hear the tinny 1920s music now.... aaaah!
It’s so interesting history and his home is so amazing 😉 Glen Curtiss is very smart to build a secret stairs. I love chandelier downstairs too😊 It’s unique ❤️❤️ Thank you for touring his place.

Yay thank you Jen and I hope he likes it!! There was SO much info, I couldn’t possibly include it all, but it was fascinating!
Much, Much Enjoyed! I love the history of aviation with the Wirght Brothers but this guy should be made more known and be as credited for his contributions and developments toward aviation. I'm discovering a lot of fascinating stuff here through your video. You're great a story teller! ;) Wow, nice place Glenn! A BBQ man! I really like this guy! His place is beautiful. I admire and respect this mans love for privacy lol I have a secret stairwell myself. I would have loved to have done the scavanger hunt. That was so fun. The story of his scar was interesting. Its the Inventor of the telephone's fault, of course! he he he. Well, you've created another awesome video. I really enjoyed this. I love learning history and especially new stuff I didn't know about. IF it hadn't been for this video, I would have not have known! Thank you Jackie ;)

After I learned the story of the scar, I went back and found the photos with and without the scar and found that a neat bit of trivia!!! I learned so much doing this that challenged what I thought I knew about the history of aviation, very cool!!! Thank you as always, my friend, I appreciate you noticing the details and being supportive and awesome!!!! Loved your video today of the zoo event, so much fun!

Very informative tour! I think it was probably Desi Arnaz Sr. Junior wasn't born till like 1950.

@@SuperEnthused I can't help myself, if I see a factual inaccuracy, I am compelled to say something. It's something I'm trying to cut back on, but it's tough.
@SuperEnthused
5 жыл бұрын
I take no offense to the correction. In fact, I appreciate it. I try my best to provide accurate and useful information, but I am bound to get something wrong once a while - even large, well produced television shows with writers and fact checkers get things wrong once in a while, and I'm just one person with a camera and hand written notes. I am not 100% sure, but I think what may have happened is the tour guide said, "a young Desi Arnaz," and somehow my brain turned that into "Desi Arnaz, Jr." It was a lot of information and I had to cut a lot out for the sake of time. I tend to learn a lot doing these videos, and I always appreciate additional information, clarification, or corrections. Thank you!

That gentleman did so many First. He accomplished a lot in his lifetime.
I think that egg horn thing is supposed to be a pineapple. They're used as a sign of hospitality in lots of southern homes.
@SuperEnthused
5 жыл бұрын
Ah yes, thank you, I should have known!!! I did know about the pineapple being used as a sign of hospitality, and many Miami institutions use it as a logo or welcome sign! I just didn't put 2 and 2 together on this one!! It's upside down and got a pointy top so it totally threw me off. Good call, I think it might be a pineapple indeed :)
14/70 fun fun fun
Curtis sold the building to Dr. John Harvey Kellogg for a dollar in exchange for running his Sanitarium for 5 months each winter. It was called Miami -Battle Creek Sanitarium.
