Glamorous Cambodia Ep.1: Paradise on Earth

A nicely shot series about the people and culture of Cambodia, its ancient heritage and a lot of information that most people probably wouldn’t know about this southeast Asian country. It takes the viewer on a trip to all aspects of Cambodian society, from the wonders of Angkor Wat to a leather carving artisan who has turned his workshop into an orphanage where he trains kids in his art. @@loluzair7070 there’s many of modern scholarly studies that shows pre-Indianization Cambodia was rich in culture, with historically documentation (by the Chinese), and plenty of that culture persists to today. That’s not to say India didn’t play a large role in shaping the history of Cambodia, but it’s incredibly dismissive to begin claiming Cambodia’s culture is all derivative of South Asia. Paul Cravath’s PhD thesis “Earth In Flower” focuses on dance in Cambodia primarily, but goes into length that misnomer

I was born in Cambodia. At the age of 8, my family and I were forced to flee the homeland bc of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge regime. I’ve spent the last 42 yrs in America, but I want to go home now more than ever! There’s nothing here for me in America, I want to go home to know, learn and appreciate more of my homeland. Everything looks so beautiful and the history is rich. I need a new start all over again!

@@KS-zu6ps In my opinion, it is the mentality of Cambodian itself. During King Jayvaraman VII, he ruled his country with the practiced of Buddhism in place. He had systematic foundations where the laws governed the country and its people. He had integrity, sincerity, respect, and etc. for his citizens. Under his Kingdom, he brought peace, prosperity, harmony and richness to the land and his people for over 34 years. His people respected and supported his caused. Nowadays, our leaders are not well educated, corrupt, no true words come out of their mouth. The laws is on written papers but not practice and respect, justice, integrity, honor, etc do not exist anymore. The only existence now is classism, money, greed, and power, which involved a unit of case systems, which is part of the Hinduism. Back in the 11th-12th centuries, Cambodian were free to worship how they pleased. This part of the history is also imprinted on the wall of the Angkor and more. To me, it doesn't matter what background the religion one believes, it's the character, mentality, education, experience, and the heart of the Leader who rules the country could bring the country to peace. Cambodia, We have many Illiterate people in the country and even in the government systems, where bribery exist daily and taking advantage of the poor and silent the educated ones. So, it doesn't really matter if Hinduism come back 100%. In addition, we are still practicing Hinduism along side Buddhism in today Cambodian society. That was part of our history, tradition, and culture. Thanks for your input. We just need to be kind to one another by listening to each other ideas and needs. Peace and be safe and healthy.👏👏👏

Good show about Angkor Wat, other temples and Cambodia. I've just like to share some backgrounds about the Apsara Dance (part of Cambodian Royal Ballet). The narator said that the Apsara Dance was created in the mid 20th century, in fact it was created thousand years ago. It has never died out except only during the Pol Pot era (1975-1979). It was mainly performed for the Kings and Queens in the Royal Palace. Only in the mid 20th century the Apsara Danc was modernised by the Cambodian Queen Kosoma (King Sihanouk's Mother) and allowed to perform outside the Palace and teach tovnormal Cambodian citizens at schools. That was the time for the Cambodian Classical dance, Apsara started to spread around the world until it was listed as an Intangible Heritage of Humanity by the UNESCO in 2003. Thanks

Nope you are incorrect about this. The narrator is correct. Everything was lost and this dance was a Re-Creation.

Cool story! Heading toward part 2! If stuff lasted longer, and we lived longer, we could still see today what it could have been like, way back. But life happens quick. At least we've got Today. Better take good care of it, of the relative *today* so Tomorrow our efforts still bring positive outcomes. Tomorrow's today.

Following Buddha's principles by a Hindu does not mean conversion. Any life born or individual following the culture developed in the land between the Himalayas and Indian Ocean is referred to as a Hindu. Siddhartha Gautama was born in this region.
