I bought two cars last 2 weeks. Two weeks ago US 2024 DSG MK8 GOLF R and this Thursday US 2023 GLA 45 AMG. Both new from the VW and MB dealer. I liked the GOLF R a lot, but once I drove that GLA 45 AMG, I bought it. I was about to trade in my GOLF R, but my son decided to keep it for himself and start paying 50% of the car. The other 50% was a gift from me. :) Anyway, I found the GOLF R to be sportier, much better equipped and a tad faster, with more confidence inspiring. I think the difference in handling is because I have the optional 19-inch AMG wheels with 235 50 19 SUV touring tires instead of the optional 255 35 21 summer tires and wheels. Both are lovely vehicles and will stay in the family for a long, long time.
Got a used 2018 GLA 45 about a month ago. 44,000km. Love it so far. The exhaust is so much fun and the car pulls hard. I like that I can switch it between comfort, sport and sport+ (no race mode) based on what kind of driving I'm doing. Such a different experience between those options but it makes me feel like I'd be able to give it to someone like my mom and they would be comfortable driving it. So far so good. For anyone upgrading from a car that doesn't have high performance brakes, brake squeaking is normal unless you're driving the car hard regularly. I found this out the hard way by taking it to a shop to have checked out. Luckily they only charged me a box of donuts. Cheers!

Dead reliable. Just keep up with your regular maintenance and you'll be perfectly fine!
Im currently between the Golf R or this car, i can't seem to find too many GLA 45 AMGs on the used market...most seem to be either not well spec'ed or very high mileage 2016-2020

Avoid the 2015-2016. 2017+ have the transmission tuning sorted out. Amazing cars - much more engaging then the Golf R!
