Regardless, the R would annihilate both versions on any road course. Being what it is, it's not ideal for drag racing. In fact, it beats almost every BMW and Merc on the Ring, except the most hardcore models.

@@ytsux9259 I've done some track days on the Nuerburgring and none of the Type R's that were there were able to keep up. Andy, the guy running the track day who also happened to race in his younger years, owns a Type R and he admitted that his car was outclassed.

TypeR did really good at the roll race for it to have 75+ hp less and stock TypeR dyno at 270-290hp stock but dig racing it sucks FWD isn’t the best

Its not just fwd - Honda limits the power in first and second....limited power combined with track focused geometry means a weak launch.....the launch only allows 3500 rpm which is very very low A simple e20 tune on the R will add 90whp and 90wtq .....from a roll a lightly tuned R will demolish this GLA

Put the GLA in manual mode and it will smoke the R since that lag won't be there.

Look at how much fun the AMG driver is having. That's why I love automatics. I can't wait till the day when my fully autonomous sports car can drive to the local race track on its own, do a few laps for me, while I chill on my couch at home. That would be so much fun!

It could've been worse, it may have been the GLA 45s with 415 hp. Nevertheless, it is interesting having a mash up and seeing the actual difference in speed etc.

On a roll the Mercedes should have started on 2nd or 3rd gear in manual mode... it is not fair to make the DCT downshift by hitself when the type R was already on gear. This should have make a big difference.

@@ffrnando4388 Not the fact it is torky but it is not fair to be on D for the DCT vs a manual already ready to go on gear... I never done any roll race on the D position cause it sucks.. The trans have to downshift and it take sometimes.. Always be at a good gear to be ready to go without the trans having to kickdown.

As a amg owner myself, if you hold down the downshift, it will set it at the appropriate gear and then you mash down the pedal when you are ready and let it shift for you. Best is to leave it on S+

The AMG M133 on that GLA45 used to be the most powerful 2.0L 4-cyl production engine until the new M139 on the new 45S series was released. Honda can't even come close to the 415hp of the new AMG M139 2.0L 4-cylinder engine.

@@deltaracecraftsolutions For NA from 2021 till 2023 GLA 45 AMG have M139 engine. Just de tuned for 91 US octane (95 EU). In Europe, to achieve 416 HP, the engine requires 93 US (98 EU) octane fuel. They raised the boost with ~3 PSI to achieve that on 93 US/98 EU octane. Great engine, no doubt. I love my M139.

Well one thing the Honda has going for itself is the fact it will outlast the competition by a good margin.

Another lame ass excuse. Any car will last a lifetime if u maintain them. U need to take a trip to jamaica. When i migrated to Canada i realise how flaw the system was over here. Cars loosing value like crazy and if a car reaches 200k its a rap. Madness. U go to jamaica and see bmw 650 with over 300k on the clock. And many more. And very clean condition. Only here these silly jokes make sense. Honda will outlast a benz. Rubbish..maintain the damn car thats all.

And i honestly drive all of them hard an maintain them. I usually sell at 200k due to me wanting something else. However, if you go to jamaica as i say. Its not uncommon to see cars hitting over a million kilometers both german and japanese. Most people have issues with german because they are not maintaining them. One of the things i notice since i migrated here. If someone has a luxury car thats 10 years or older..they automatically think the price of maintenance should be cheaper hence they throw it away. In the caribbean the mindset is different. We dont use km to judge cars like here. My tundra back home has over 3 million km. I bought it in 2001 when it just came out and have it ever since. Runs like new. My 750 has around 400k in jamaica. Another thing i notice in my opinion....japanese cars parts wore out way faster than german. My 2015 m5 has since new has 135000km and i never change any part on it. My 2017 civic 66000km needs a bearing at the back and my mom 2018 rav 4 68000km got the front shocks replaced. Thats what i have notice. The parts for them are very simple and replaces way faster than a german

@@ACURACALABAR11 I however have a totally different experience here in Canada in German vs Japanese in reliability my 2008 Mazda 3 has 246000km and I've had zero issues with it just change the oil regularly and replaced the ball joints and links once with no engine light or anything ever where as my C300 4matic gave me so many issues just after 160000km that I had to sell it coz every week I'd had to replace something on it especially in the winter some sensor will go bad and I'd get a error on meter cluster also had to change two of the wheels abs sensors just on 128000km where as my daily the Mazda 3 zero issues what so ever even today before this I had a Corolla had over 300000km and the meter stopped on 300000km still didn't gave me a single issue before I sold it to my friend that's my story and I'm sure Mercs are atleast more reliable then Bmw,Audi/Vw

I have a 2016 Gla 45 and I would say the 4 wheel drive is only on at launch because they are mainly front wheel and not full time 4 wheel drive. And they won,t apply more than 50 % to the back even so. Just seems to be my experience. They are a lot of fun and I am sure the Honda is as well.

Honda will get the hate because most people can’t manual shift. Even a bum can use the AMG. The bottom line is Mercedes has way more HP and torque plus better traction off the line. A tuned Honda with equal power will smoke it.

That gla doesn't even have the aero package with the big navy wing on the back. The amg track pack boost top speed to 167. This beating could have been even worse

I do find it funny everyone wants to see how a Type R will do in a drag race against everyone and their moms car. It’s terrible for drag racing, FWD through a manual transmission is the last combo you want for a drag. Now from a pull the CTR can hang with similar horse power cars but is for sure Track focused. 9/10 on track, 7/10 in a roll and like 4/10 in a drag.

That Type r would not keep up with that AMG on a track.I bought an AWD Stinger after almost getting a Type R--there is a long 30 MPH sweeper near my house.I took it at 60 in a Type R with the front pushing and losing speed.I took it in my Stinger and was able to keep the lane and stay at 60 and stay flat--plus the AWD will bolt the car out of the corner.My Stinger was also 3k cheaper and can outrun many muscle cars on street tires.I have vids on You tube--I also have geomet cross drilled and vented rotors on all 4s with the brembos and a muffler delete with a twin pipe (going into the 4 outlts with 2 Y pipes at the end)--and also have the pipes straight for even more exhaust airflow, that is welded to the undercarriage of the car.You can goto fastlaps and see where the cars place on laps and the Type R they tested was a GT partial race/cup car that had no seats.A stock Type R needs a lot of mods to get around a track faster then AWD vehicles that have 60 or more HP and low 4 second to 60 and .9 G plus with summer tires--I also have summer/performance tires on my stinger.Type R needs AWD--if not send it home

Far as power the power to weight ratio should be close considering the AMG is at least 500lbs heavier

The AMG 45 is more classy, less radical and offers more discretion in town needed for a 50+ driver, something to expect with the 30000 euros difference in 2023, BUT Honda comes with big arguments, Japones known long term reability of its known engines, and above all, the manual box on the 2023 version, à huge selling argument in Europe, almost impossible to find!

Next time add some stickers to the Type R. It might help with the performance 😂

The thing with Apple 🍎 is...it's not an orange or tangerine and a manual in a race against similar automatic needs a good driver of standard transmission and still would not win...but against it's similar specs competition, it's awesome

C'mon! Who we kidding? You knew making this video what the outcome would be. As a current owner to a 2020 CTR, even I knew how much of a beast the Mercedes is. Much respect to the AMG,now test them on a track and that would be a show. And I bro, I totally agree with you about what the CTR is, I just love the look, feel and style of this current generation. I unfortunately, don't like the looks of the new one coming out.

The 45 will still outclass the CTR, maybe on a very technical short track you could see some advantage towards the CTR, but not on a track like Nuerburgring or Hockenheimring. Maybe not even on Laguna Seca. I've driven my GLA45 on those 3 tracks and I'll put my money on the 45 against the CTR.

@@AdversaryNemesis1124 I've driven my friend's A45 on the Nuerburgring as well and I'm honestly glad I went with the GLA45. I really can't feel the weight advantage of the A45 but it's definitely lower. Now if they offer the A45S stateside, then I'll definitely try to get one.

@@Blue-moon12 why do you care for 0-60? That means NOTHING when it comes to FWD. a car can do 5.8 and still do a 13.7 1/4 compared to a car that does 0-60 of 5.6 and quartermile of 14.0. 0-60 literally means nothing. It’s what happens after that matterS. Trap speed that matters.

I was fortunate to buy a '19 GLA45AMG in '22 with 9k mi. for around 48k. Best money ever spent on a FUN COMMUTER! Pros: - DCT, 7 gears, AWD, 5 seater hatch, 375hp/350tq out of the box, HAND MADE ENGINE, 3400lbs. Cons: - DCT is as good as a DCT is; horrible at stop and go traffic and crawling speeds. Sometimes slow at selecting right gear (mitigated by setting it to manual). MB will eat you alive with service/maintenance/repair costs; haven't had any repairs needed and all maintenance incl'd transmission fluid change has been done by me. Lastly, 2019 was the last true sports hatch made. 2020+ are a hog in performance, weight and looks. ------------ Had Honda created an AWD Type R and taken off the gloves by pushing the 4cyl to 400hp+, it would have been GAME OVER. However, all these major car manufacturers just want your money for mediocre performance in return using selling gimmicks. Type R looks bad as, but falls short in the performance dept. ------------ Note: I also added a RaceChip to my 45 and it is insane power for a 4 cyl.

In the 80s Mercedes had quality control and solid materials that last for decades. Today they have plastic interiors wrapped in fake leather they invented call MB tex to fool morons into thinking its "high quality" - its not To get anything near 80s Mercedes quality you have to step up to an SLS/S class and above and even then they still have wiring issues/grounding issues 80% of Mercedes vehicles are leased and few owners keep them past the lease or warrty period - they know the repairs wont be worth keeping the car and leave the timebomb for 2nd, 3rd, 4th owners who buy the car - have a maintenance failure and sell the car. Youll find these "luxury" cars at buy here lay here lots - half broken - being sold to broke people who want the status a brand vs an actual reliable car. Its an illusion - one that luxury brands profit from daily by suckers willing to overpay for status. An entry level Mercedes is worth less than an Accord but they can charge more for a CLA because of a badge lmfao Pure comedy The Germans love to use steel and their chassis are pretty solid and coated for rust prevention.....but their electronics are always iffy and their wiring looms always eventually short out, get pinched or wear until they throw codes. Their sensors fail constantly and the labor to replace them is 5 to 10x the cost of the sensor itself. Just annyoing This is why they are leased - keep them fresh, under warranty and you get a loaner when it breaks - lease over - hand the headache to someone else - MB USA then inspects the car, fixes issues and offers a 7yr/unlimited mileage warranty on lease returns to start the cycle again

I’m surprised GLA didn’t gap much on a roll… my CLA 45 AMG made Type R on a roll like he was a normal Honda Civic… I just took off to 80mph in just 2 seconds from 40-50mph maybe.. granted it’s a lighter car than GLA and tuned with 50+ more HP… I was in the right gear and boomed.

Another German car fanboy who thinks nothing is better then euro car lol do you even have comon sense the Merc has more HP and torque better power to weight ratio and a DCT transmission so it's obvious it's going to win that Honda has less hp and no traction of the launch and everyone knows it's not fast in a straight line it's meant to be fast around a track

I wonder what sense is there in continuing to present unthinkable comparisons, by type of traction and by power, comparing completely different cars in straight-line challenges whose outcome is known at the start. Take them to fast tracks but also with mixed sections as they should, and compare them on the time it takes to do 5-10 laps. Everything else is a mockery.

I still would choose the type R

Pretty much what my Stinger does to a Type R.I almost bought a Type R and luckily tested an AWD Stinger with the 3.3TT--the Stinger was also 3k cheaper.

Sam had done silver tuned 1.5 vs the R before. Find the video in his channel. If I remember correctly, it's the 1.5 tuned vs veloster N vs Type R

@@quick2mack74 Im pretty sure they did. The 1.5 tuned destroyed the R for a very weird reason. The roll race the R easily crossed the finish line first

@@raymondtang1262 Nah, I just re-watched it lol. At the end they did some bullshit roll race and something happened to the 1.5 and he fell way back, it wasn’t legit. From a roll he should have destroyed the R and the N easily. I want to see a legit roll between the two.

Better driver could of won the roll race

This test is a big joke! I had a 2015 A45 amg 360hp car which is lighter than the newer Mercedes in the video. It was between 100 and 200 in 13 seconds. Honda knows this easily.. Moreover, it is a much better car to drive than the clown cage GLA :D

I had 2020 A45 and now 2023 GLA45. GLA45 is a much better car overall than A45. A was a bit sportier but absolute trash at anything else. The ride, the space, the seating position ground clearance etc. Exterior looks more premium on GLA45. GLA45>A45, it is a fact.
