Hot hatch vs SUV - what's faster? Logic dictates the lighter and lower Mercedes-AMG A45 S should trounce its heavier and more cumbersome SUV alternative over a hot lap. But will it?
To find out we tested the A45 S & GLA 45 at the drag strip and the circuit. And the result? It surprised us!

I have a gla 45 amg and its my favorite car iv ever owned. I beat a lot of fast cars on the freeway. I know what a scat pack is but the scat pack owner thinks "no big deal, its just a hatchback" 😂
That track looks amazing!
I can hear the GLA had an initial delay before the power was put down compared to the A45. I think this could be closer with some reprogramming.

A rolling start race would have been helpful here
For those commenting on the height/size and relative uglyness of the GLA 45 AMG, bear in mind that the 2019 and prior GLA 45 AMGs are notably more compact and lighter weight than the post-2019 models and therefore don't look/perform quite the same as the one in this video. And with a simple plug-in tune, it will have the same, if not more, horsepower/torque with no further modifications.

the 2021+ H247 GLA is SHORTER than the first-gen X156. Heavier and taller, yes. But shrinking an ANY dimension is very unusual these days. And the m139 I-4 is a hand-built monster.

My 2016 gla45 AMG does 3.9 and 12.2 stock. Has been a reliable track monster, bone stock for 8yr.
Sadly here in north America we don't get the a45 😪. Only the gla 45

2015 had an issue with 7 speed DSG
Same tyre size and type ??? Pretty close on the track but half a second on the strip is a fair way off in reality !
Ahhh, I'm reminded by how bloody annoying tyre squeal is...

Lmao different purpose for different people with different taste........ I respect your opinion, however, GLA AMG is a lot better looking than most of it's competition in my opinion.

It's competition is a RSQ3 and looks wise I'm sure most would prefer the Audi, and I'm a Benz Guy! The GLA is not the most aesthetically pleasing in its range by far
