Mercedes GLA45 AMG - One Take
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The Mercedes GLA45 is a slightly lifted, hatchback version of the European A45 and US-market CLA45. And while that seems a bit silly at first, as it turns out, the GLA45 may be the best of the bunch.

i started seeing these little things on the roads here in atlanta a few months ago. it's good to know they're as fun as they look. i love how it pops at the end of the video
just watching it run puts a smile in my face... thank you for the POV
The drive-away endings that you have added to your videos as of recent are on point. You've done well here sir! Drive-by exhaust clips are very appreciated. Thank you.
Love those drive by shots!
I love how everyone seems to have the exact same emotional reaction to the vehicle. Driving a GLA 45 AMG is an uplifting experience to say the least.

+SaKuLification Yeah, that's apparently what happens when the battery to my Audio Tecneca lavalier is dying. Battery is supposed to be good for 1,000 hours of use, this was what happened after about 20 hours. Good news is that I identified that as the culprit and fixed it, and now will swap batteries every other shoot day so it doesn't happen going forward. Bad news is that with no realtime monitoring, I shot like 6 or 8 videos in 2 days before I realized it was doing that. So your next few videos are going to sound like shit, and for that I'm sorry, but the cars are too good to not air the videos.

You almost had it with the launch control, you just need to pull both paddles while in manual and sport traction, it will ask you for a race start, confirm with paddle up and you're ready to go. Remember that, because it will be standard in pretty much every AMG car!

You dont need to be in manual, its always work ;) you can even be in sport+ mode, just full trottle in automatic that’s it !
the reason DCTs hesitate on downshift + acceleration is only because it gets confused. The accel is being pushed so it preps the next gear, but suddenly the driver shifts back = confused computer and then it has to think a little. Engineering Explained goes through this.
I always love your reviews of cars, one thing I would love for you to add in your video reviews would be an extra camera on the speedometer and tac so people could see the revs of the car while you are pushing it around curves. But this is just my opinion. Your opinions of cars is a big plus when it comes to being interested in being willing to buy. Thanks for all you put into your video's.
it's the first mercedes that came out that i genuinly like :')
To activate the launch control you have to pull both shift paddles at the same time when the car is stopped and with tc in sport mode and validate by clicking the upshift paddle

+TheSmokingTire Any bets or opinions on this engine and drivetrain's reliability? With such specific output, it certainly seems high-strung right out of the factory gates. Then again Ford, Honda and others seem to be getting into the game too with a similar "heavily boosted four-cylinder hot hatch" formula.
I tested one of these about 4 months ago. Just a spritely little scamp. It does have a launch mode and its FAR different than just matting the throttle. it spools the turbo prior to launch so you get max torque from the get-go, but engaging the mode can be a bit finicky. You can do it once and then it needs a cool down period and if it knows you're not on perfectly level road or if your steering wheel is 1 degree off, it'll cancel it. I had the AMG sport seats and they were quite... uncomfortable lol. Anyway, super usable, super fun, just a little too expensive in my book. But i enjoyed every second of the week lol.

The exterior exhaust clips were great! I know it probably takes a little more time/effort to get those shots, but I'm glad you were able to make those happen as a lot of us were hoping to see those in your videos Matt. I have a CLA45 myself, I do think it looks odd in certain colours, though I think it looks great in Black.Definitely agree with you regarding the transmission; I think a part of it is the extremely short gearing and the computer trying to protect the transmission. My biggest gripe is the delay from when the car shifts after you click the paddle. The shifts themselves are VERY fast under load, but there is a slight delay there when you click the paddle. I have to shift at 5800-6000 to not hit redline in first gear, which is kind of annoying. Awesome daily driver though.If I can ask you one question, just HOW MUCH louder was the CLA45 you drove with the Armytrix exhaust (Vivid's car) compared to this GLA? Seems as though a lot of times videos don't really show how loud an exhaust is, and considering the stock exhaust is pretty loud, I don't want to shell out $3500 for an exhaust if im not going to hear a substantial difference.Thanks! Keep up the great work man!
@TheSmokingTire
8 жыл бұрын
+JMaherWRX The Armytrix exhaust (without cats in the VIVID racing video) was stupidly loud. It had a nice tone, but it was a ton of volume for a 4-cylinder car. If you have the AMG Sport exhaust from the factory, as this GLA 45 did, it's more than loud enough and not at all restrictive in terms of HP. If you do not have the AMG Sport exhaust, I'd call Armytrix and ask what they make that's not so loud as the VIVID car, especially for a daily driver. And probably keep the cats.
@JMaherWRX
8 жыл бұрын
TheSmokingTire Hey Matt, appreciate the response man! Yeah I have the sportier exhaust from the factory, and it certainly does have a nice tone and volume to it. But I came from a 2011 WRX that was straight piped... no cats, no mufflers LOL I was once one of those crazy "hoonigans" everyone hates. Thinking the Armytrix catback exhaust (stock downpipe left alone) with the switchable valves might give me the increase in volume I'm looking for when I want it and quieter levels other times.

I bought one GLA 45 2015 model and like it, and I came from a 2011 c63. For those who complaining about this car, have you actually drove it? A lot of your complain can be answered through a test drive. BTW I paid 52K canadian for a slightly used, most focus RS I saw are around the same price. for me, its a good buy and good value.
Just drove one drives amazing very fun car for real!

Hi Mat. Great review. I want to ask your opinion which one you would choose between the GLA45 against a 2017 camaro ss. I know it's 2 different cars but which one do you think is a more driver's car and also more enjoyable daily driver for the long run. I'd love to see it in Rally mode 😍😍
Nice car. I think lot of people get or want to get it wrong. Of course is more expensive than an EVO or STI, but thats ok for the people who buy it. When you can spend the money more is total ok. Older guys (35+) with a bit cash on hand care for the interieur in the Mercedes and the ride quality plus comfort. It will not steal any customer from a EVO or STI. Its a daily driver which gives you your youth back for the moments you kick it. I had a lot of extreme cars when i was younger with teeth breaking ride comfort and no way to communicate inside during driving it. I thought it would stay forever like this, but today I smile about it when i drop into my comfy seat.

That simulated overrun is hilarious. I would never buy his new but maybe as a second owner after it has depreciated some. Does it drive with a front wheel bias?
What I want to know is how far did all those trash cans at 4:18 have to travel from their respective homes? There aren't any immediately across from them as it's a drop off. Nor did I notice a road leading away from them on the hill side. The nearest homes are hundreds of yards away. I would absolutely dread trash night.
The keyless button for the car is removable. Even if the car has keyless, it's just a removable button that goes in the key slot
I like this car. when I pay off my house in 15 years I might get one.
You can hear how slow the gearshifts are. It's a fair delay between paddle pull and actual upshift or "Fart".
Did you know its the same height as the Subaru STI hatch?
Matt, a used GLA45 or a new sticker price Focus RS?
I always thought of the GLA as the Merc take on the Crosstrek XV. The popularity of the AMG should be proof enough for subaru to make a Crosstrek XT or whatever you would call the higher performance version
Those concussive upshifts. O.O
This dude is just rolling probable cause........I like it.
Keyless start is an OPTION on this car it is called "Keyless GO" and it is only $580 and can be added to this car. This car is not equipped with that option thats why it doesnt have it, but it is available if you wanted it and for the CLA AMG.
Does taking the traction control off makes improves the feel and enjoyment in a all wheel driver car? I thought the point of awd is for all electronics to work together make you feel like a superman. I thought turn off tc is for rwd cars.
just which one should i choose? cla or gla? Cla seems faster when cornering..
it's a beauty of a car and rhe transmission is so much better in the 2017 models onwards .

With the unresponsive shifting, were you referring to trying to shift manually or it in automatic(sport mode)? And is it perhaps more better functioning in the other mode?
@TheSmokingTire
8 жыл бұрын
+101aptbam well in automatic, there wouldn't be anything to "respond." to. It would just do it on its own. "responsiveness" inherently refers to responding from an input from the driver, in this case tugging the paddle.
@101aptbam

I get that clarification, I was just wondering if perhaps in auto sport plus or whatever mode it is intuitive enough to deliver same or better performance than shifting yourself. But I guess you were more talking about just wanting to downshift or upshift out of a performance driving context.
+thesmokingtire we really need an A45 over here, despite being quite similar.
$64K is a lot of dough. I have a feeling the resale value on these will be strong. That's too bad because I'd like to buy a used one in a few years but it'll probably still be north of $25k in 5 years.
