Dave needs to learn some basic mainstream economics. Treating the macroeconomy as a household is counter-intuitive at that level. Consumption + Investment + Government consumption = Y National output, on a micro-level it makes sense to save and cut, however, what miro-economics/personal finance level/neo-classical economics fails to take seriously is that one person's expense is another person's income. If confidence drops to near zero no matter what happens consumption will drop and everyone will be worse off. The reserve bank can lower rates to zero but it won't make a difference if there is a liquidity trap. Government spending is needed to reinject some demand into the equation to get an upward trajectory going again especially if monetary policy is no longer working. I know Dave likes to bag on the left but their actual spending plans put forward tend to be more in line with the Keynesian/ neo-classical synthesis response that would help unemployment more. Kaynes was right about the national debt, in the long run, we are all dead, I don't want to see a whole generation of people suffering or jobless when they don't have to be, much better to get growth back up and let the growth rate and inflation rate take care of debt long term, as long as they actually do pay it back and don't lower taxes again when they start to get surpluses again. If we have to sacrifice inflation for employment, like the trade-off in the Phillips Curve I would much rather have higher inflation and low unemployment then the other way around.

My husband’s first date with me cost him about $60, including tip. I chose the restaurant and he expected to pay more. Dating is an opportunity to get to know each other, not go broke. Brutus Tan and you think you guys are perfect little things? Men today are at best man children. There are more men today playing video games than working and being productive. You want to talk about being responsible? I wish this statement were made up, but I’ve read enough articles about this phenomenon, it’s not even funny. At least there are more of us women going out there, getting an education, working hard, building careers, and making money of our own. We ARE responsible. We DO take responsibility, because if we don’t, then who will? I’m not a feminist, btw, but I AM tired of having to apologize for being a woman when I went, got educated, worked hard, saved up my own money, bought my own investments and home and am a contributor to this economy. There are men my age right now waking up and playing Zelda or whatever the devil you boys like to play. They live in their parents’ basement somewhere, and they play all day. Somehow I’m worse than you all? Because somehow that’s taking on more responsibility than a person like me? Please.

Female here, when I was dating my husband when we were 19 and 20 years old, neither of us obviously had a lot of money. I was happy just to spend time with him and go on walks or picnics. After we had been dating about 6 months, there was this nice restaurant in town that I had really wanted to checkout, but I didn’t feel right asking him to take me there since I knew he didn’t have a lot of money. So, I saved my money and took us out on St. Patrick’s Day and we had a great time! We have been married for 13 years and he is not cheap! When we were getting engaged, I had mentioned that I didn’t want anything big or flashy, because that is not what marriage is about or what our relationship was about. I was moved however that he bought the best, most beautiful diamond he could, much more than I was expecting. Great man!
