Oh, PS - Im from Brazil and with tears in my eyes! Im a dilettante scholar and researcher of his Civil War, this moves me. I take the opportunity to remember that here, in Brazil, the Lee family and many other Shouternes who immigrated to this country, founded TWO colonies that became immense prosperous cities, one called Americana and the other Santa Barbara.

My Great-Great-Great Grandfather was a Sergeant in the 48th Alabama Infantry and was a part of the unit that captured Devil's Den... We can admire the bravery of anyone, but the cause of the south was rotten to its core. Read Alexander Hamilton Stephens Cornerstone Speech and then take a look at the Confederate Constitution and you'll get a full understanding of what these people mean when they sing "Hoorah, Hoorah, for Southern Rights Hoorah" really means. Many claim most Southerners didn't own slaves, yet they fought to protect the ownership over other people for rich planters who could give two shits about them. When it comes to a cause, everyone will find one and the Union definitely held the moral high ground in contrast to the Confederacy which fought to keep families in chains and torn apart. This is not to say that some Southerners weren't fighting for their homes and honor, I'm sure some of them were convinced of this but this great lie was the same scam that sent millions of men to their deaths in the trenches of world war I. Profits, cloaked in emotional sentiment which at the root are false and outright abominable because the bedrock of the profits was the complete degeneration of the human being solely because of his or her skin color. I wonder what the SCV thinks of Confederate Army deserters who left and went home because the Confederate government was robbing the country folk blind to support a crumbling war effort... You see, you sing southern rights, but what about the people we don't hear about as often, what about the rights of the poor southern farmers who were trampled on by their own Confederate government. The Confederate Home Guard bullied the poor for the sake of the rich. It was a rich man's war, but a poor man's fight, and before all of the neo-Confederate come here and talk shit about the North, ask yourself... Who was out to liberate? And who was out to enslave? I know Sherman burnt Georgia to the ground, my own 4th Great Grandfather was wounded in the Defense of Atlanta, another one died of his wounds at Chancellorsville, leaving a six year old son at home without a father, and what was it all for? So some scumbag can extort free labor... GTFOH! At least Union men who died, did so for a good cause that benefited the based dignity that all humans are entitled too in a civilized world. My 4x Great Grandfather, Pvt James L. Davis suffered and died for a cause that didn't benefit the base dignity that every human deserves, he died to ensure that this base dignity was deprived, and all for what? The pockets of a bunch of people who looked like Colonel Sanders could overflow.

The only two complaints I have about the confederates was the racism and slavery. Other than that, they aren’t that bad.

While the union lit fire to the wrightsville bridge to prevent the Confederates from crossing. Embers from the fire spread into town and began to burn the city. Confederate soldiers formed a bucket line to help put the fires out. There were no good sides in that war. Both sides were equally evil, but the men who fought were just everyday men who were forced to pick a side.

@@verdant2215 Exactly. Both sides did awful things, but people seem to think every Confederate soldier was a racist slave owner, and that every Union soldier was a non-racist abolitionist.

The word is "losing" and they are weekend re-enactors, not real soldiers, doing this for free! Now, if you want to PAY people for your entertainment, hire the ones that look the part, pay for their uniforms and transportation.
