Most Excellent Video, Thank you Mr B! Those Old Soldiers Never Lose it, do they. I love the Regiment Remembrance Days, it's a perfect Illustration of Continuation, from Retired & Past, to today's & the Cadets, You can understand the view that the Regiment is like a family. I wonder how many Fathers & Sons & potentially Grand-Fathers marched in this. The Marches were great & I liked the different arrangements of First & Finest & Household Brigade. Of course it was great to see my favourite Drum Major & The British Grenadiers & Grenadiers Return are 2 of my favourite pieces. Another video added to my favourites.

I am puzzled to see WOII Dean Jones (CSM of Queens/Kings Company, 2 i/c of bearer party at Queen's Funeral, present in the Abbey at the King's Coronation) marching at 23.40 among the retirees. Has he just retired? Was that expected?

The memo that went out from the Grenadiers' regimental headquarters to Black Sunday attendees, stated in respect to order of dress: "Serving and non-serving other ranks - Dark Suit & Brigade Tie with Medals (no berets are to be worn on parade). Serving and non-serving Officers - as per standing orders." So it's quite likely that WO2 Dean Jones is still a serving member of the Grenadiers.

Those at the front, in suits, are all former soldiers from the regiment. The ones with the bowler hats and brollies are ex-officers, and those behind are all ex-soldiers, including ex-NCO's. Those in camo gear, looking at how they march, or should that be "attempt to march"(?), are in all probability TA's and cadets, and it's sad to see there's a number of those in this section carrying an extra lb or two (overweight!) As to why they're there, then you'd need to ask those in command. The Regimental Remembrance Day parade service is held opposite Horseguards at The Guard's Memorial, it has five life-size bronze figures sculpted by Gilbert Ledward representing the Foot Guards Regiments - Grenadiers, Coldstream, Scots, Welsh and Irish. These are remembrance services for those killed in conflicts from WW1 and WW2 to the present day. This is an annual event for all five of the Guards Regiments, there's also one held for the Royal Marines, which is the Graspan Parade. (named after the battle of Graspan in the Boer war) No doubt they'll be ex-serving members of the forces who will correct me if I'm wrong on any of the above 👍🏼

@@Wabbit_Hunta The Cadets & T/A have different Criteria to Join & Serve. Yes there are some Plus Sizes in there, however I take exception to your "Overweight!" label & your tone. If those are Cadets, they will have had to not only fulfil the Enlistment requirements, but also to pass a series of tests in Basic Training. They are obviously able to do the physical tests or they wouldn't be there would they. They may have only started Basic training that week & are still learning to march in the approved Army manner, BUT regardless, they are there because they belong to the Grenadier Regiment, they are paying Respect to those who went before them, those who Serve now & probably most importantly, Those Who Fell in Combat. Every single one of those Soldiers were Cadets once & probably had to learn to march too. Judgemental People like you really piss me off, I wonder how well you'd go as a Cadet. The difference is they are training to be a Soldier, who will Serve & that means potentially putting their lives on the line, to Defend & Protect People like you. The least you could do is not judge them, at least not until their Basic Training is finished.

Just looked at this again, the return to barracks. Can any military person who's seen this confirm that there's a number of what can be described as "serious medals" being worn. Going on the order of them being worn, left to right. There appears to be a number of DSO's being worn by some of the ex-servicemen. watch from [23:17] or am I wrong?

I'd like to know who taught those in combat fatigues how to march. Pretty disgraceful how so many were out of step and out of line. giggling and looking all around., they definitely need more time on the drill square, I don't know, maybe they are cadets, but that's no excuse, eyes front always, and the fat bodies? The beat of the drum is meant to keep you in step, while obvious veterans in civilian clothes are all in step and marching with pride. Call me old school, but I'm an ex guardsman, my father was a guardsman. The Band however is perfect. Up the Guards....

The bowler hat is thought to have been specified for former officers who, after moving to civvy street would quite often move into fairly important jobs in the city where bowler hats are customarily worn. The umbrella incidentally is never unfurled even if it rains.

@@matthewwhite5814 This was The Regimental Remembrance Day. Cadets are part of the Regiment. They have every right to be there, probably more right than we've got watching (unless of course you're a Grenadier) & damn more right those who take great enjoyment in picking on them & criticising. You will note they are following the "Old Boys" & not following the Guardsmen, they may all be a relatively new intake, this is a perfect opportunity for them to parade with others & I suspect the "Old Boys" will be encouraging them. Not all the Cadets were bad at the drill, it's just the few struggling to keep up or time & they stick out like sore thumbs. I'm glad they were included, it shows Respect to their Regiment, the "Old Boys", those currently Serving & those Who Fell. This is not a Ceremonial Parade, it's a Regimental Remembrance Parade with Past & Present Members.

@@matthewwhite5814 They were marching tagged on to the back of the Civilians, not marching with the Household Division. This is also a Regimental Remembrance Day, not a Trooping the Colour. They have the right to pay their Respects to those of their Regiment who have fallen in the line of Duty. It's not like they are marching in front of 100,000 members of the Public. In my opinion, they deserve Respect from the Public, yes they're only Learners, so was every other Soldiers once & they have joined up to become Infantrymen, in this case of The Grenadier Regiment, most of them were marching correctly, the few that weren't if you watch them closely, is the result of the relaxing of height requirements, a 5ft 6" Person, is going to have shorter paces than a 6ft 4" person, they struggle to keep in time & frequently have to hop skip to get back into time. This is not just a problem for Cadets either, A Female Officer from one of the Training Units, it may have been Tidswell, kept getting out of step in the Coronation Dress Rehearsals, heading down to Waterloo Station & also a Band member, whose head was bouncing up & down as they kept losing step.

They also belong to the Grenadier Regiment. They are in Basic Training for a Career in The Regiment of The Grenadier Guard. It is the Regiment Remembrance Day, that means every member of the Regiment, Past or Present, has the right, if not expected to, pay their Respects to those who fell in the line of Duty, from their Regiment.
