Getting Coffee In The NEW Mercedes AMG GT Black Series

I was recently invited to Germany to get behind the wheel of the new AMG GT Black Series, naturally, I gave it the ultimate test, of going to get a coffee!
Unfortunately for this press launch, we were only given the chance to drive the AMG GT Black Series on track, so I had to be a bit creative in finding a coffee but luckily Mercedes pulled through by installing a cafe in the pit garage.
The new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series perfectly embodies the brand's rich tradition in motorsport, as well its many years of expertise in developing complete vehicles which impress in every respect. The result is an output of 537 kW (730 hp) from a V8 engine with a 'flat' crankshaft, combined with active aerodynamics and a design which stems directly from the current AMG GT3 racing car
At Mercedes-AMG, the Black Series has been synonymous with a very special type of car since 2006: uncompromisingly sporty, with an expressive design and the most consistent technology transfer from motorsport to series production. Black Series models are exclusive automotive rarities. They have not been developed to gather dust in collectors' garages, but for high-speed use on race tracks, despite being approved for roads. The AMG GT Black Series represents a new highlight in this tradition: It is the most powerful Mercedes-AMG with a V8 series engine.
In order to emphasise the redefinition of the super sports car, the engine specialists in Affalterbach have once again extensively further developed the tried-and-tested 4.0-litre biturbo unit - despite it already being renowned for excellent driveability, power delivery and torque progression. The specifications were clear: Significantly more power than the previous flagship model of the AMG GT family, an even more agile throttle response, maximum torque - all of which meant that a radical change was needed in the form of a new, 'flat' crankshaft.

This video, and Sams conclusion, is exactly why he is the best in the business. He speaks his level-headed mind and doesn't get caught up in the pr nonsense of manufacturers. Other car reviewers, KZread or otherwise, always sound like they are drinking too much of the free Kool-aid... Stay authentic, Sam, we love it👍

I agree and my own comment reflects this, however the other side of it is that some new/growing channels (Joe Achilles for example) who are trying to gain access to events like these end-up compromising themselves by doing the PR department’s work because when you’re small, loosing access to your subject matter can be devastating. Old Top Gear is a prime example of an outlet where their viewership was so large that manufacturers could take the chance on a negative review in exchange for exposure. Don’t get me wrong, I think there’s a middle ground - simply don’t review bad cars or don’t publish your content if you think it’s bad (take a look how short this video is - 12min).

It’s good content but I‘m really doubting that the average „car-KZread“ is able to give a compelling review of such a car, simply because they just lack the ability to drive good enough. I don’t think (except for the straights) they would be any faster in any corner, hence they are just not able to test the car to its capabilities and therefore their judgment doesn’t really mean anything. I don’t claim that the average buyer would be better at it but that’s like a beginner at anything trying to review a product that needs expertise and experience

  • @AbdullahHood

I’d say that makes the review relevant for most people as that’s the same experience they would have. If the difference isn’t apparent enough for him then it’s not going to be for most other buyers.

TheProjectOverload honest maybe, realistic? No. What’s the point of „reviewing“ a car when the „journalist“ is not even close to drive the car to its capabilities? It’s like comparing a 500€ notebook to a 10.000€ gaming pc by using word. Look at Archie Hamilton racing s video. Completely different. There is a reason why people like Chris Harris won’t take most KZread car reviewers that seriously. They maybe make great content but the reviews themselfs are most of the time kind of pointless. Probably doesn’t matter for most of the audience but slacking down on a product without having the capabilities to test and use it as intended is just bad journalism and not representative. Most of the time I do enjoy his content but this one felt extra lazy and disinterested

Hilarious to hear a fellow Brit slag off Starbucks! When I first moved to the West Coast of America in the 90's and was introduced to coffee culture, coffee in England was still always instant crud; Mellow Birds, or Nescafe Gold Blend (for the more discerning instant coffee drinker). I'd come home to the UK and, whilst I was glad to get a decent cuppa and a proper pint of beer, I greatly missed my real cup of coffee! To hear English people, who have only recently discovered that coffee exists, put down Starbucks, is quite hysterical! Its trendy to play coffee snob and bash them I suppose.. Best Black Series video I’ve seen. Nice to hear some critique and someone asking the question ‘why?’ Unrelated, I’ve gotta ask - where did you get that jumper?

The difference in curve technic from Berndt Shneider and Sam. Now you realize the big difference between a pro racing driver and an amateur. However, great review of my dream car!

I couldn't agree more. of all those Black Series "testicles" out there, specifically those in blue - say it's brilliant as a car. It isn't. It's not the Black we've been getting that made us laugh. It's too harsh to be used on public roads. It looks Fugly, with a capital F. It's just not there. There is nothing pretty about it. Sure it might do great on tracks but how many people would have access to tracks all the time they want to drive? The same issue with the Ford GT. It's not meant for normal roads. Not everyone will drive these cars on the track. I honestly feel that Sam's no-nonsense and simple conclusions are honest as compared to those who would say 'this car is amazing' even if there were spikes in the seats. Loved the video, excellent music. A big thumbs up and waiting for plenty more to come

Makes Caterham 7s and a screaming Lotus look like absolute bargains! Everyone driving em are giggling, smiling, loving the experience. I test drove the Lotus Exige Sport 410 a few weeks ago and the memory I have of it is just pure, fun, exhilarating and I can get it out of my head! Very much UNLIKE this Mercedes it seems!? Fantastic vid by the way.

Hi Sam i love your videos. Nowadays every new car needs an aftermarket exhaust due to sound regulations. I think you should have shown us more of the differences to the gtr. Cant understand all zur criticism. The car is awesome!

P R also the emission regulations! The particulate filters have really started to kill exhaust sound on every new car.
