Great series of videos so far. The instructor here is really good, patient which is always needed with learner riders/drivers. The key thing here is that this rider is definitely completely new to riding, even though he drives a car. It's a nice insight to see what a learner rider experiences. I'm looking to do my CBT soon and this has definitely eased the anxiety.

It's fun, enjoy it! I just did mine in Glasgow on 22nd August. It's not a test it's a series of exercises in and about the yard, culminating in a 2 hour ride out on the road with your instructor. I had a great time doing mine, the road part was really enjoyable :) Now for the real difficult bit, affording and buying a new bike!

I remember being taught how to ride by my big brother. Took me to a field. Gave me the bike and left me to it while busy chatting with girls online. No fs given. I thought that's the best thing he's ever done for me even today with my 30 year old self.

A really good set of videos, I remember back in 1970 we could buy a 250 and of course just got on and rode it, the riding part seemed to be instinctive. After the test which I think just involved the examiner watching you could ride anything. Rules changed 71 I think and not a bad thing as I recall the rate of accidents in my year at school was about 80% one was very serious. Pretty much all down to lack of roadcraft.

All it takes is practise!

Well there are several things here that need to be put right by the instructor, you should be covering a brake at all times when stationary so when putting the bike in gear clutch in, cover front brake, right foot onto the ground, left foot up and engage first gear, left foot back onto the ground, then right foot back on the rear brake, release the front brake and hold throttle. After the figure of 8 Dan got off the bike whilst it was still running NO< NO

chris bridge the ‘legal’ requirement is 80’ x 30’ with a 6’ safety(?) run off all around. It is not fair on a learner nor their instructor to use a such a small area. Gear changing and braking exercises are severely compromised. This guy is a good first timer but a more ham-fisted, nervous rider would be a huge challenge on this area.

Did you teach the rider about counter steering? Otherwise after he goes up 20mph+ his left and right are going to change.

Jason Thomas Dolan everyone without exception uses counter steering without even realising it or it would be virtually impossible to steer at any moderate speed. It is unnecessary to introduce exaggerated use of this technique at this level, remember it is Compulsory BASIC Training
